Chapter 42: Chapter 42: An Annoying Man

Beside a gently flowing stream, the sound of water bubbling over rocks filled the air with serenity. The early morning sunlight glistened on the surface like scattered stars. Grakar sat at the edge, splashing water onto his burnt skin with an exaggerated sigh of relief.

"Ahhh... this is life," he mumbled, dipping his tail and letting it float lazily.

Ryu sat nearby, chewing on the leg of a roasted boar they had hunted on the way. His majestic form gleamed in the sun. The golden streaks in his white scales shimmered with brilliance, and his eyes, now with golden pupils over silver irises, looked more regal than ever.

Grakar stared at him between bites of meat, awe practically dripping from his scaly face.

"My Lord... forgive me, but you look absolutely majestic now. I mean, before you looked cool, but now? Now you look like the kind of dragon that makes other dragons question their self-worth. Even that human monster ran away in fear."

Ryu chuckled, flicking a pebble at him with his claw. "Quit flattering me while your mouth’s full of meat."

"I’m serious!" Grakar said, swallowing quickly. "Your wings, those golden scales, that aura... You don’t even need to fight anymore. Just show up, and enemies will start crying."

"Haha.. You sure know how to exaggerate, Grakar," Ryu replied with a smirk, although his tail twitched in satisfaction.

After the quick meal and washing up, Ryu stood up on his four legs.

"Alright, break time’s over. I need head to the city now."

Grakar also stood up, still licking the grease from his claws.

"You’re going back to human civilization, Lord? What will I do in the meantime? I don’t have a human form like you to enter the city," he muttered with disappointment.

Ryu smiled calmly and replied, "No need to worry. I’ll transfer you into my Mind Space so that you can stay with me wherever I go. Or if you’d prefer to stay hidden somewhere around here, that’s fine too."

Grakar’s eyes lit up with joy. "Is there even a need to ask? I will follow wherever your esteem self go. And I vow protect you with my life. I have disappointed you once, but that will never happen again."

"That’s good to hear," Ryu nodded. "But remember, you’ll be alone in there. So you cannot cause any disturbance or try to break out. In return, I’ll give you more blessings to make you even stronger."

Grakar’s tail thumped the ground with excitement. His heart thrilled at the mention of blessings.

"If that’s the case my Lord, I’ll stay obediently inside. Even if it means dying of boredom," he said with conviction, puffing his chest like a proud soldier.

Ryu chuckled. "Good. But there’s no need to die of boredom. Just wait until I call you."

With a wave of his claw, a ripple of light swept over Grakar, pulling him into the glowing depths of Fusion Lab.

Now alone beside the stream, Ryu stretched his wings and gazed toward the city skyline in the distance.

"It’s time to see what the fortress city really has to offer."

And with that, the Solarfrost Dragon took to the skies.

---

He flew for about an hour before finally landing on solid ground, just a short distance from the gates of the Fortress City.

Once on land, he smoothly morphed into his Hydra Human form. Naturally, he was naked.

His human appearance had changed noticeably.

The silver hair remained, cascading with the same luster, but his silver eyes now shimmered with a faint golden hue. His body had also developed. He was no longer the thin, malnourished boy from before. Now he had a firm, well-balanced physique. Muscular, but not bulky. He looked lean, strong, and agile.

Glancing down briefly, he checked to make sure everything was in place. His little brother was still there. And clearly, it had improved as well.

With a small smirk, he pulled out the yellow commoner’s outfit from the Fusion Lab. It was the same simple clothing worn by refugees. He dressed himself without much thought.

As a result, when he entered through the city gate, aside from a few passing glances from guards, no one paid him much attention.

In this apocalyptic world, there were countless men who looked strong. But true strength was measured by those who possessed immense mana and top-tier skills.

Ryu had no problem with it either. In fact, he preferred staying low-key for now. Staying in the limelight is not always good. Not certainly when he was a mythical Dragon inside.

From there, he headed straight to the Hunter Branch to submit the completion report for his F-Rank quest.

However, inside the mission hall, he ran into a problem.

An annoying man stood behind the counter and refused to accept his report.

"What do you mean the quest is not complete? I saw the Hollows in that village with my own eyes," Ryu said, slaming his fist on the hard table. Still, it made a resounding impact.

He was supposed to receive 50 silver for this mission, which he desperately needed right now. The rejection made his temper boil.

The man in charge looked as if he was enjoying the situation. Maybe he was just venting his own frustrations. For all Ryu knew, the man was probably abused by his wife at home and found relief by harassing low-rank hunters.

"Calm down, Boy," the man said mockingly. "I have seen plenty hot headed newbies like you. You have brain but refuses to use it. You have no proof that the quest was completed. We can’t just take your word for it, can we?"

He flashed a smug, evil smirk.

"So how do others prove these quests are complete?" Ryu asked, trying to keep calm.

The man snorted and pulled out a strange red crystal from beneath the desk.

"Ever heard of Image Crystals?" he said with disdain. "No? Of course not. What else can I expect from a street rat who probably never even graduated from the Hunter Academy or received proper training. If you hadn’t been lucky enough to awaken a System, you’d be out there begging in the gutters right now."

Ryu clenched his fist.

As a hot-blooded young man with a naturally impulsive nature, he wanted nothing more than to smash the man’s nose into the desk. The string of insults was getting on his nerves.

But he took a breath and forced himself to calm down. Starting a fight here would only make things worse. He needed to think clearly, not act rashly.

It was his mistake to begin with. In his excitement he completely forget the most important part.

Just then, a calm voice interrupted.

"What’s with the noise Berton?"
