Chapter 18 - Fang rabbit
"Brother Storm, what a powerful talent you have got."
Walking forward with the group, Alden smiled as he commented.
From the moment he first met Storm, Alden had already learned of his great talent through his special source.
However, witnessing Storm actually use those skills before him was not only impressive but also overwhelmingly powerful.
Without batting an eye at him, Storm replied, "Fate gave it to me. As for you, you need to practice and master your hold on your weapon, and I'm looking forward to seeing you show your skills."
"Don't worry, Brother Storm. Soon, I will find out what my talent is."
Darian and Zara looked at each other, as if they were reading each other's minds.
Watching the earlier battle from the side, they had seen Alden's body suffer serious injuries from the vicious beast's attack, yet shockingly, he recovered swiftly before Ember healed him and even delivered the killing blow to the beast.
They were sure that if a level 1 newbie awakener received such an attack, he wouldn't even be able to move for at least two hours, let alone jump, but here Alden did it.
They were slightly confused about this. Or is self‑healing part of Alden's talent?
The group was fully ready and prepared as they continued on their way.
The continuous howl of wolves could be heard inside the forest as they walked cautiously, looking around their surroundings carefully.
Darian was in the forefront with Zara and Storm at the very back.
Ember and Alden were placed in the middle of the three to avoid any unexpected attacks from beasts against them since they weren't strong enough to handle any now.
Just as they were about to pass a tall tree, Darian at the front raised his hand, causing them to halt immediately, their weapons at the ready for any sudden movement from anywhere.
Darian pointed toward a small bush ahead of him.
"The first law of survival here is to pay full attention to your surroundings," Darian whispered softly to Alden and Ember behind him.
Alden and Ember immediately looked in the indicated direction, and upon closer inspection, they noticed small changes in the bush as the leaves and grasses were slightly bent.
They both understood the assignment. Ember nocked an arrow in her bow while Alden held his sword tightly, surveying their surroundings.
For a few seconds, they remained in that position, but there was not a single movement from the bush anymore.
One might think that there was nothing there anymore, but Ember and Alden already knew that this was a cunning trick at play.
Whoosh!
Ember released her hand and the arrow sped into the bush.
Hmmph!!
A low grunt was heard.
From behind the bush emerged a creature. It was a rabbit.
But it was different from a normal rabbit due to its large size, long claws, and extended fangs protruding from its mouth.
A fang rabbit emerged from the bush, standing on two feet, looking at the group fearlessly even though they outnumbered it.
Without hesitation, Ember aimed and released the arrow she had nocked in her bow.
It was well known that rabbits were very fast, and true to that fact, the rabbit speedily moved out of the arrow's range.
In the blink of an eye, the creature dashed backward, its strong legs carrying it swiftly away from the arrow.
But the retreat was short, as the creature paused for a moment before turning to face them and charging forward again.
Its eyes burned with a wild light and its long claws and fangs gleamed under the forest illumination as it rushed ahead.
Alden gripped his sword tighter, ready to meet the charging foe, while Ember shifted her stance to take another careful aim.
As usual, Darian, Zara, and Storm let them be and stepped aside to watch as they fought against the beast.
Every second in that charged moment felt like an eternity. The creature's every movement was fast, its agility and ferocity clear as it pushed forward.
This time, Alden did not rush in. His eyes stayed fixed on the beast, and his face showed strong seriousness.
He waited patiently for the creature to come close enough within his attack range.
"Hold!" Alden shouted to Ember, who was already poised for attack.
As the fang rabbit drew near, Alden swung his sword in a wide arc.
The blade sliced through the air as it met the charging creature.
At that moment, Alden shouted, "Now, Ember!" and Ember released her arrow straight toward the beast.
"Ember, I'll handle it from here while you concentrate on reducing its speed and keeping it at bay," Alden said, his eyes fixed on the creature.
The fang rabbit dodged Alden's swing, its long claws scraping the air as it jumped aside. Ember quickly loosed another arrow, aiming to slow the creature down.
Alden moved around carefully, blocking the beast's strikes with his sword and countering with quick, precise slashes.
The fang rabbit lunged and twisted, its wild eyes filled with a thirst for blood as it sought a gap in Alden's defense.
Each of its powerful kicks forced Alden to step back. He didn't allow that to affect him as he remained composed and focused.
Ember, positioned a short distance away, kept her attack steady.
She aimed repeatedly, sending arrows that forced the rabbit to jump back.
Thanks to her arrows, the creature could neither get close to Alden nor retreat effectively, as its speed and wild charges were curtailed.

Ember's arrows were proving effective in controlling it.
Still, the fang rabbit fought fiercely, leaping forward once again to close the gap between itself and Alden.
The rabbit drew close, its claw outstretched. It seemed that it would be able to hit Alden and inflict damage on him.
Nonetheless, Alden effortlessly pushed backward, as if he were a weightless kite borne by the wind, as his speed suddenly increased.
The group watched in silent awe as Alden regained his balance. They were shocked to witness the sudden increase in his speed.
Alden had activated the wind speed in succession to escape from the beast.
He then used the wind speed to draw near to the beast.
[Wind speed in use <8 times use remaining>]
Alden and the fang rabbit exchanged several attacks in fast motion.
The sound of clashing metal and the creature's low grunts filled the air.
Alden's sword met the creature's rapid strikes, and each time, he tried his best to deal enough damage to it.
Ember continued her arrow attack, ensuring that the creature couldn't move at its full speed.
