Chapter 20 - Surrounded

Inside the dark forest, the scary sound of beasts echoed from all directions.

Soon, the group was surrounded by dangerous scor-eye wolves circling around them, ready to tear them apart for trespassing in their territory.

"Holy crab!" Ember cursed inwardly, but she refused to allow any fear to overtake her heart.

Each one of them had already drawn out their weapons, their eyes fixed on the six beasts around them, trying to intimidate them with their numbers.

Darian held two short swords. "Don't be scared of their numbers," he said directly to Alden and Ember, trying to ease any worries in their hearts.

"They are just Level 1 F-rank beasts, so do not fall for their tricks or get trapped among them and also try to finish them off quickly with each of your attacks," he declared, staring at the beasts with a fierce glare.

Zara, the quiet one, did nothing but extend her spiked steel whip. She wanted nothing more than to rush forward and destroy these beasts, but she held back for the sake of the two who needed to learn how to fight and survive in here.

The scor-eye wolves could no longer tolerate their presence as they were annoyed to see humans standing against them.

Howl! Howl! Howl!

The six darkskinned beasts let out a terrifying cry into the air that echoed throughout the forest before dashing forward to attack.

Ember stayed in the middle of the four. She couldn't engage the beasts head-on, so she would strategically attack from that position.

Alden already prepared, thrust his sword forward, aiming for the eyes of one of the wolves that got close to him, then slid to the side and launched another hit.

As expected, his sword failed to inflict any serious damage on the wolf's skin, leaving mere scratches that meant nothing to it.

He didn't allow the worry of that to slow him down as immediately, he leapt into the air and narrowly avoided the claw swipe aimed at his face.

The wolf was damn fast but with the wind speed, he could equally match or even outrun the beast. The only drawback of the skill was that he could only use it a limited number of times before it cooled down, so he indeed to only use it when really necessary.

Even without activating his wind speed, Alden also noticed that his body had become remarkably lighter and that his speed and agility had improved greatly, quite unlike during his first battle here.

Thud!

A wolf was swung off into a tree before landing heavily on the ground, making dust rise into the air.

From the corner of his eye, Alden saw it was the doings of Zara; her face was emotionless as she lashed out with her whip again and skillfully made it wrap around a second beast before throwing it towards the first one, making the two collide into each other.

Zing!

An arrow cut through the air and lunged into the side of the wolf facing off against Alden, giving him a chance to deliver a beautiful arc on the wolf.

Ember was doing well, swiftly nocking arrows into her bow and quickly firing them at any wolf she saw with an opening, giving them a good surprise.

Zara was individually dealing with two wolves.

She was adept with her spiked steel whip. Within a minute, there were indeed numerous bleeding injuries on one of the wolves.

It wasn't easy facing two wolves, but with her experiences, calculations, and also with her talent, she was able to put up against them without having a very hard time.

Her fight was more like a catch and chase. Her sharp whip giving one of the wolves a hard time while she avoided the attack of the other wolf.

Swoosh-swoosh!

At the left side, with his two small, sharp swords, Darian continuously splashed and also parried two wolves attacks, deflecting their claw swipes with a swift motion.

Everyone was extremely busy fighting against the beasts, never giving them the chance to properly attack them.

One of the wolves suddenly successfully broke out of Zara's control and immediately dove through their circle, going for Ember as it glued its yellow, burning eyes on her.

....!

GrrrRAAAAHHH! It growled loudly at her as it drew closer.

The wolf became furious after noticing that she was the one shooting off those annoying arrows at him and its packmates.

Ember immediately shifted back and fired an arrow at the wolf.

With its speed, the wolf easily dodge the arrow and resumed its advancement towards her.

Ember wasn't fast enough to nock another arrow when the wolf arrived in front of her.

Seeing no chance of escape, with a panicked look on her face, she jabbed at the wolf's head with her bow.

The wolf ignored her puny attacks and swiped at her.

Just then, she was pushed backward by an unknown force that diverted the attack aimed at her head.

Without hesitation, the wolf rushed forward at her again to deal with her when a sharp stick on the nearby ground rose into the air and forcefully stabbed into the rib of the wolf.

It weakened as blood poured from side when the stick stuck.

"Ember, immediately get yourself in a safe distance from it!" Darian's voice rang out from the side.

With his special talent, 'telekinesis,' he was able to save Ember. If not, she would have sustained a life-threatening injury.

The two wolves he was fighting against got the opportunity to launch attacks on him when he was distracted.

Darian tried his best to dodge by pushing himself backward, but one of the wolf's fangs bit down on his broad shoulder.

He groaned as he bore the pain and reacted by using that opportunity to pierce his sword into the eyes of the wolf.

Wooooahhhhh!

Letting out a painful, snarling scream as it struggled to free itself from Darian, he wouldn't allow it, not when he got the chance to finish it off at one of its weak points.

He pushed his hands deeper through its eye socket, ignoring the heavy flow of blood pouring profusely over his body.

The other wolf, seeing its comrade in a dangerous situation close to death, rushed in to help.

He countered with his other sword, managing to block the wolf's attack and protect himself from its sharp, vicious claws.
