Live-in Son-in-law-Chapter 1222: Could There Really Be Ghosts in Demon Ridge?
Qin Yi forced a smile; this woman was becoming more and more unreasonable.
"Alright, stop joking around! Hurry up and heal."
Yun Qinglian nodded, using Qin Yi’s strength to start healing.
Qin Yi stood up to skin and clean a wild rabbit, then started roasting it over the fire.
When the rabbit was cooked, Yun Qinglian had almost recovered. Even though Qin Yi’s cultivation technique had an incredible healing effect, it was still a penetrating wound, and she needed a few days to fully recover.
Seeing Yun Qinglian open her eyes, Qin Yi teased, "You must be a dog, waking up from the smell."
Yun Qinglian glared at him, then stood up with her back to Qin Yi, quietly pulling open her collar to look inside. The penetrating wound on her left chest was now just a reddish scar, which made Yun Qinglian a bit concerned.
"Don’t worry! The scar will disappear in a few days," Qin Yi said.
Yun Qinglian blushed red, turning to glare at Qin Yi, "Did you take off my clothes to heal me and see something you shouldn’t have?"
Qin Yi gave a playful expression, "Do you want me to see, or not want me to see?"
"If you did see, I’d gouge out your eyes."
Qin Yi, speechless, said, "To save your life, seeing it isn’t a big deal, right? Besides, you look like a sunflower with a big head, with nothing below to see!"
"What did you say?" Yun Qinglian was instantly furious; Qin Yi’s words were too hurtful.
"I said your figure is great. Come over and eat."
Yun Qinglian glared at Qin Yi resentfully, but she was used to his nonsense. She stomped over, as if stepping on Qin Yi.
Qin Yi silently chuckled and tore off a rabbit leg for her, "Eat more to replenish your strength."
Yun Qinglian’s face turned black, "Replenish where?"
Qin Yi froze, speechless, and smiled bitterly, "You were injured, so replenish your body. Do you have anything else that needs replenishing?"
Yun Qinglian glared at Qin Yi with resentment and puffed out her chest, "Is the Princess really that small?"
"Cough..." Qin Yi almost choked on his own saliva, "Just joking, how insecure are you to take a joke seriously?"
Yun Qinglian snatched the roasted rabbit leg from Qin Yi’s hand, "This Princess has always been confident, standing proudly among the beauties."
After saying that, she started eating with large bites, clearly starved.
"How come there’s no salt?"
Qin Yi sneered, "Be grateful you have something to eat. In these wild mountains, where do you expect me to find salt for you?"
Yun Qinglian’s eyes glimmered slightly, "What if I find some?"
Qin Yi looked around, "Where’s the salt?"
"So there are things you don’t know." Yun Qinglian stood up, walked to the edge of the dense forest nearby, picked a green plant with small yellow flowers, returned, squeezed its juice onto the roasted leg, and handed Qin Yi a piece, "Try it."
Qin Yi took it, curiously examining the plant in his hand, "What is this?"
"Salt grass. It’s everywhere, free and useful; most ordinary people use salt grass when cooking."
Qin Yi squeezed the juice onto the roast in his hand, tasted it, and indeed it was salty, making the roast much more delicious.
"I thought the Eldest Princess of the Yunyue Empire was a pampered delicate lady, didn’t expect you knew this too."
Yun Qinglian scoffed, "This is common sense, only you don’t understand. Where exactly do you come from, barbarian?"
"I come from the Earth civilization village, if anyone’s a barbarian, it’s you guys."
Yun Qinglian pursed her lips, giving him a disdainful look. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
After eating their fill, the two rested for a while.
Qin Yi stood up and said, "Let’s go. We should head to the Demon Ridge, find the Iron Armor Fiery Centipede as soon as possible, and cure your ailment."
"I think you can’t wait to rush to the Imperial City and see your fifth sister. Be honest, what exactly is your relationship with her?"
Qin Yi: "..."
"Can’t you have a cleaner mind, woman? I’m worried about my friend Yun Mengyao’s safety, after all, your lustful, unattached father is eyeing her."
Yun Qinglian suddenly laughed, "I’ve heard about this. This Yun Mengyao truly lives up to being your friend. If any other woman was noticed by Father, it would be considered a blessing from the ancestors, surely she’d be immensely grateful. But Yun Mengyao? She berated Father with lots of harsh words in front of all the ministers. She must be the first to ever refuse Father."
"Your irresponsible dad is spoiled by you people. If it were up to me, a good beating would fix him."
Yun Qinglian: "..."
Only Qin Yi would dare say something so disrespectful.
After that, the pair set off towards Demon Ridge.
They weren’t far from Demon Ridge, probably about half a day’s trek away.
When they were almost there, Yun Qinglian said, "Qin Yi, it’s getting dark, not safe to travel at night. Why don’t we rest for the night and enter Demon Ridge tomorrow?"
Qin Yi thought for a moment, about to nod, when suddenly he faintly heard sobbing noises.
Because there was a tailwind, along with the darkening sky, the ethereal sobbing noises carried through the wind, sounding like ghostly cries, even affecting Yun Mengyao, who immediately got goosebumps.
"There wouldn’t really be ghosts at Demon Ridge, would there?" Yun Qinglian whispered.
Qin Yi’s lips curled up in a smile, "There’s no such thing as ghosts. When people die it’s like lights going out, there’s nothing left."
"Then what are these ghostly cries?"
Qin Yi said, "How do you know it’s ghost crying? Could be people crying, or perhaps it’s the wind blowing through something creating the sound."
It seems women, no matter how strong their cultivation, have a natural fear of supernatural stuff.
"Let’s go check it out."
"I’m not going." Yun Qinglian shook her head like a rattle.
Qin Yi: "..."
"Then stay here, I’ll go look."
"No, I’ll go with you." She didn’t want to be left alone here; at least with Qin Yi, her safety was assured.
The two followed the sound forward.
Shortly after, they arrived at the edge of a cliff.
The sound came from across the cliff.
"What’s down there?" Yun Qinglian asked in surprise.
Qin Yi was also surprised because he had long noticed that not far below the cliff, there was actually a village, and the sobbing noises were coming from there.
"Seems it’s not just one person crying, but many," Yun Qinglian noted.
Qin Yi nodded slightly, having already discerned that.
"Let’s go take a look."
Qin Yi led Yun Qinglian towards the village.
They appeared above the village, looking down. It was not small.
In the center of the village was an area resembling a small plaza. At this moment, torches flickered as hundreds of people knelt on the ground, under the torchlight displaying expressions of suppressed anger.
Among them, six or seven men, women, and children were crying sorrowfully and miserably.
