Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Attracting the Black Bear

As Xu Yi approached the cave entrance, he grew more nervous.

When he reached the entrance and saw no bees, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The fact that none had rushed out meant the bees inside were likely chilled to the bone.

It’s unsurprising, considering how extreme the weather had been those couple of days. It wouldn’t be shocking if they all had frozen to death.

Xu Yi leaned in to take a look and was immediately met with the scent of honey.

This indicated there was indeed honey inside.

Without any container, Xu Yi simply used a knife to tap the trunk.

Ultimately, the sound from hollow parts differs from solid ones, allowing Xu Yi to saw off the sections with honey and the hive, and carry them back to camp.

In the end, Xu Yi sawed out a long wood piece around four to five meters.

As for the exact quantity of honey inside, Xu Yi couldn’t say. Anyway, he hoisted this long piece and headed back to camp.

After all, it’s just eleven o’clock, and Xu Yi could still make it back to camp.

He wasn’t entirely comfortable with Lu Ke being at the camp alone, and a late lunch wasn’t a big deal.

Carrying such a long piece of wood back wasn’t easy, so Xu Yi took extra time, and only returned to the camp after two o’clock.

"Lu Ke, I’m back, open the door." Saying this, Xu Yi set the wood down.

He felt it was better not to carry it inside the camp.

If something happened, it would be easier to manage.

"Coming." Lu Ke put aside the linen, happily ran to the door, and opened it for Xu Yi.

After opening the door, she saw a long piece of wood by Xu Yi’s feet.

A big smile spread across her face.

"Xu Yi, you really brought the honey back?" Lu Ke figured Xu Yi wouldn’t go through such efforts and exertion only to carry back a piece of wood if it weren’t for honey.

"Yes, don’t come over yet, let me handle it after lunch." Xu Yi wiped his sweat, though the temperature still hovered around thirty degrees, hauling a hundred-pound object for so long easily resulted in a sweaty back.

"Why haven’t you eaten yet? It’s past two o’clock, couldn’t you have eaten in between?" Lu Ke remarked in a reproachful tone; she felt Xu Yi shouldn’t be treating his body this way.

In the wilderness, due to an unbalanced diet, the stomach and intestines are naturally harmed. Not eating on time would only increase the likelihood of stomach issues.

Saying this, Lu Ke turned her head to pour Xu Yi a cup of warm water.

Regularly drinking cold water isn’t good for the stomach either, so whenever she was at camp, she would use charcoal to warm the water.

"Drink some water, rest a bit, then have lunch." Saying so, Lu Ke grabbed some jerky, then took out her dagger to cut the jerky into small pieces.

This made eating more convenient.

Lu Ke didn’t leave the camp but sat and continued working on the linen.

These linens were almost finished by Lu Ke, it felt like her hand speed had increased quite a bit after her illness.

After Xu Yi had lunch and rested for another ten minutes, he walked out of the yard.

Lu Ke followed Xu Yi, holding a ceramic pot, which she planned to use for storing honey.

"Be careful, as soon as honey appears, make sure to run inside, okay?" Xu Yi instructed Lu Ke, taking a precautionary approach.

"Yes, I got it, don’t worry." Lu Ke replied, feeling that Xu Yi’s worry was unnecessary.

Although the entrance was tied with Xu Yi’s clothes, throughout this long journey, surely if there were bees, at least one would’ve escaped, right?

Thus, Xu Yi untied his clothes.

No bees came out, Xu Yi breathed a sigh of relief.

Then, he took out his knife, preparing to chop open the top of the wood.

Lu Ke looked on with anticipation.

After a few chops, the inside was exposed.

Golden honeycombs were revealed, piece by piece, neat and orderly.

"Honey, Xu Yi, honey, so much honey!" Lu Ke clapped her hands in happiness, this was genuine wild honey.

This tree cavity seemed to be full.

Estimate, maybe seventy to eighty pounds of honey?

This amount could last for 500 days, right?

"We struck gold, struck gold, so much wild honey, I’m drooling."

"Priceless, the wild honey of an alien planet is surely great for beauty!"

"Beauty? I think, maybe it’ll improve brain function, hahaha. What effect does honey have other than being sugar?"

"No, besides glucose and fructose, there are enzymes and some vitamins. But effects are perception-based."

"Major science demonstration here, showing how knowledgeable you guys are. For Lu Ke and Xu Yi, this is a big harvest."

"See how happy Loli Ke looks, she’s tasting it straight with her finger."

"Such a quantity of honey, no wonder Loli Ke is this happy."

"Who cares about its effects, a daily cup is nice. At least it tastes good!"

Xu Yi cracked open all the wood, exposing all the honey inside.

The air was filled with the sweet aroma of honey.

"Xu Yi, our ceramic pot isn’t enough; it can’t hold this much honey." Lu Ke felt the pot was much too small, maybe it could only hold about 20 pounds.

Such a lot of honey would need at least four pots.

"No worries, we’ll make a few over the next days to store it." Xu Yi replied, carrying the wood back into the camp.

Back inside, Xu Yi cleaned the ceramic bowl and pot.

Next, he set both under the sun to dry.

Lu Ke knew, Xu Yi planned to use the ceramic bowl to pour honey into the pots.

The honeycombs still had value, so Xu Yi wanted to collect them.

The sun was intense, and after a dozen minutes, the water in the pot and bowl had evaporated.

Then, Xu Yi took out the honeycombs and placed them over the pot.

Honey began to drip down, some into the pot, some outside, some at the bottom of the bowl.

Lu Ke took two cups and came over to scoop some.

If she were to make herself a cup now, she would definitely not be just a foodie.

After making it, Lu Ke handed a cup to Xu Yi.

She even clinked her cup against Xu Yi’s.

"Glug."

"Ahhh."

Lu Ke downed the honey water in a few gulps, letting out sounds of satisfaction.

"So sweet, really tasty, another cup, do you want one?" Saying so, Lu Ke glanced at Xu Yi, feeling she drank too quickly, hadn’t savored the honey’s taste fully.

"Yes, it’s refreshing, and the taste is great." Xu Yi handed his cup to Lu Ke.

Just then, a loud roar echoed, changing Xu Yi’s expression.

It was a bear’s voice, and it seemed close.
