Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 225: Little Corpse-eating Monkey
Lu Ke has always hoped to make Xu Yi some leather shoes using pig or cowhide, but since they haven’t hunted wild boars or water buffaloes, there hasn’t been an opportunity to make comfortable leather footwear.
Instead, Lu Ke usually weaves using bark. Later, when flax became available, she even wove flax shoes for Xu Yi. However, they weren’t very durable, needing replacement every ten days or so.
Now, the pair Xu Yi is wearing is almost worn out too, and he needs a new pair crafted by Lu Ke.
Sitting by the fire, Lu Ke skillfully weaves bamboo shoes for Xu Yi, while Xu Yi works on a bamboo bed, attaching finger-width bamboo strips to it.
The scene is both warm and ordinary.
To the audience in the livestreams, the evenings are almost always like this, warm and similar in each stream.
At night, it’s often about doing some handwork. Challengers who do nothing are rare unless injured or too tired to stay up.
Of course, there are crises too.
Like Ivica and Lei Jie, who are in serious danger right now.
They are surrounded by a group of monkey-like creatures, smaller than monkeys, with sharp teeth and extremely agile.
What frustrates Lei Jie is the sheer number; despite killing seven or eight, countless Little Corpse-eating Monkeys continue to leap at them.
"Lei Jie, let’s give up. If it goes on like this, we’ll be bitten to death," Ivica stands behind Lei Jie, holding a bamboo spear, ready to stab any Little Corpse-eating Monkey that bites Lei Jie.
The problem is that dozens swarm at once, biting Lei Jie more than one at a time.
Lei Jie’s legs and body are covered in blood, making him look like a bloodied man.
"No, unless I actually die, I won’t give up. If I don’t give up, neither should you!" Lei Jie shouts, then swings his Engineer Shovel.
After all, he has no other weapon, unlike Xu Yi, who found metal to forge weapons.
Now, he and Ivica mainly rely on their polished stone and bone tools.
But with no sharp weapons right now, there’s no way to deal with so many Little Corpse-eating Monkeys.
"Lei Jie, you’re crazy! You came to protect me and take care of me, so you should listen! Give up now!" Ivica never imagined her brother would be so insane, determined to hold out until the end.
"I have other tasks, sorry, my dear sister. Please fight alongside me until the end. If death becomes inevitable, I’ll relent. But now, it’s not allowed!" Lei Jie shouted, grabbing a Little Corpse-eating Monkey biting his waist and smashing it onto the ground, stomping on its head until it bursts.
"Madman! We need to exchange weapons. What weapon do you want?" Ivica also shouted. Since Lei Jie wouldn’t give up, neither could she.
Otherwise, knowing Lei Jie, if she gave up first, she would lose him forever and never be forgiven.
Lei Jie hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
If they had weapons, he and Ivica could smoothly survive this crisis today.
"The Samurai Sword, the one with 99 points I showed you," Lei Jie said, not having time to make the exchange himself.
A Little Corpse-eating Monkey is worth 3 points, so he might have a chance to earn it back.
Half a minute later, Ivica saw a Flying Ball appear.
It flew in front of them and opened, revealing a Samurai Sword over a meter long.
"Come on, you little beasts!" Lei Jie exclaimed, grabbing the Samurai Sword and began slashing with it.
"Whoa, this sword is something else. One slash, one monkey, splits them in half."
"With the Samurai Sword, Lei Jie’s combat power instantly rises."
"The sword technique is simple but efficient and effective. This blade doesn’t seem worse than Xu Yi’s blade; it should have been exchanged early."
"If he had exchanged it earlier, he wouldn’t be covered in wounds now."
"Fortunately, these Little Corpse-eating Monkeys are small, half the size of monkeys; otherwise, Lei Jie would have fallen long ago."
"Amazing, Lei Jie! Go, Ivica, goddess!"
With the Samurai Sword, Lei Jie quickly slaughtered over a dozen Little Corpse-eating Monkeys.
The Corpse-eating Monkeys seemed intimidated and suddenly began retreating.
However, they carried away their companion’s bodies, with no intention of leaving them for Ivica and Lei Jie.
"Lei Jie, stop chasing. You’re covered in wounds," Ivica, seeing Lei Jie intending to chase, quickly pulled him back.
The jungle holds countless dangers; once Lei Jie leaves the camp, he will be out of sight, making rushing out pointless.
Lei Jie stopped his pursuit and returned to the fire.
Ivica immediately removed Lei Jie’s clothes to check his wounds.
He had thirty-seven wounds all over.
If it weren’t for the animal hide clothing, much flesh would likely have been bitten off.
"Lei Jie, what exactly is your task?" Ivica asked as she washed Lei Jie’s wounds with cold boiled water.
"Sorry, I can’t elaborate. I’m here for something specific," Lei Jie replied, without revealing more.
"Can’t you secretly tell me?" Ivica directly asked, sensing Lei Jie might not want the audience to know.
"I really can’t," Lei Jie declared firmly, aware of the adverse consequences of revealing it. Hence, he couldn’t share it.
Lei Jie believed that if any knowledgeable challengers remained, they would also keep silent.
"Is it worth risking so much? Without weapon exchange, you would surely die tonight." Ivica looked at Lei Jie, increasingly curious, driven by her inherent curiosity.
"If I truly feel I can’t hold out, I will give up. You, as my sister, won’t be allowed to get hurt," Lei Jie replied nonchalantly, as if the wounds were painless.
Tonight, he and Ivica killed 27 Little Corpse-eating Monkeys, earning 63 points.
Aside from injuries, it wasn’t too costly since they exchanged for a Samurai Sword and still have 98 points.
With the Samurai Sword, he felt they could quickly earn it back.
Realizing Lei Jie wasn’t willing to disclose more, Ivica knew pressing further was futile.
Thus, she fetched some Hemostatic Grass, mashed it, and applied it to Lei Jie’s wounds. These herbs were collected by Lei Jie for their purpose, explained to Ivica. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Lei Jie’s injuries hadn’t been fully treated when beast sounds came again from outside their camp, signaling the crisis wasn’t over.
