Lord Evolution: Starting With SS-rank Skills-Chapter 290: Calamity.(10)
It was afternoon, and the scorching afternoon sun still bathed the bloody battlefield between humans and calamities with a fiery illumination.
The battle got heated by the second, hundreds of weak monsters lost their lives every minute while dozens of unfortunate soldiers met their death.
The captains and the soldiers held their ground — The captains gave constant orders to their subjects. They fought not for themselves alone. Checking, ordering and assisting their men became a part of their tasks.
The soldiers were worn out after nonstop battle for more than one hour but they never halted.
They changed.
They fought.
They defeated their opponents.
A few lost their lives in the cause. Others sustained ghastly injuries.
But it did not stop them. The endurance they had practiced during the hunting trip became their strongest support.
Corpse fell, blood littered the battle ground. The cries of pain, victory and the bestial growls of bloodlust and anger covered a wide radius.
The battle was still ongoing at its chaotic pace when an abrupt weather change took place.
Dark clouds covered the sky, signifying the arrival of heavy rain. Lightning also cracked across the dark clouds. Thunder blasted across, shattering the equilibrium of sounds in the atmosphere.
Both monsters and humans were distracted by the sudden changes in the atmosphere. But they could not stop fighting.
Dragun and the two allies were baffled about the sudden weather change. The abrupt darkness somewhat reminded them of the scary events at the cult hideout — Was it going to repeat itself again?
At first they asked themselves that question. But seeing how the change became less human controlled, they believed it was the sign of rainfall, a devastating one. But why now?
In this world, weather changes can be wonderful and devastating — There are news of Kingdoms getting washed away by heavy rainstorms, some getting buried by unexpected sandstorms and villagers getting burnt to ashes by blazing sunlight.
Was such going to happen over this land?
CRAAAAAAKK BOOOM!
An even louder thunder blasted across the battlefield once again. The sound was very loud, it was as though another planetary body had collided with the sky.
"The weather calamity."
Only Rowan knew the sudden weather change was about.
"Fuck! Why would two calamities happen at the same time? How the fuck am I going to stop them?"
Rowan cussed as he smashed the head of a serpent crawling up to him with the handle of his sword.
He was still in the midst of the D-rank monsters. He had spent one hour in their midst now, but the D-rank monsters were still in multitudes.
Rowan and his people are very lucky that the arrangement of the horde placed the weaker ones in front and the stronger one at the back. The other way round, the entirety of the soldiers would be slaughtered before they could even injure their opponent. The mages would be smashed to meat paste before they could chant their spells.
While slaughtering the group of D-rank serpent monsters around him, he could not stop thinking about what to do to hold back the weather calamity that is about to begin.
The sky kept darkening even more. Heavy breeze blew, whistling across. Lightning flashed continuously and thunder grumbled every second.
The incoming of the storm became even clearer. The soldiers were even more concerned. Fighting in the middle of a storm would be tedious.
What could they do?
Fortunately, Rowan was not the only one thinking about a way to prevent the storm approaching — His father also shared his concern.
The middle-aged mage could be seen drifting above the battlefield, moving towards Rowan.
GROWL!
ROAR!
Some infuriated monsters leaped to get a bite of the mage. But he easily counterattacked their attempts with the fiery whip clutched in his hands.
Merla spotted Dragun and sent some of her purple hobgoblins to protect him. The summoned creatures threw themselves on the monsters and began a bloody brawl, tearing their opponents apart.
Dragun turned back and gave the beautiful summoner a salute and made his way to his son.
He landed beside him and took on some of the serpents with his fiery whip. The whip proved to be very effective against the serpent monsters as they were afraid of the scorching flames ruining their scales.
"Rowan... I have a way to hold back the storm."
Dragun shouted at Rowan.
The constant hissing of the serpents and the growls of monsters surrounding them made it impossible to converse lightly.
"Huh? What did you say?"
"I can hold back the storm. I have a special magic formation capable of dealing with weather like this."
Dragun revealed.
'For real?!'
Rowan was immediately interested.
He began slashing the serpents monsters even more seriously and moved on to meet Dragun, to understand his words better.
"It is a special magic formation I obtained from the cult."
Dragun began, at the mention of the cult, Rowan frowned.
"Do not worry, it is not any sort of evil spell. The cult mostly uses them to stabilize the weather at their new hideouts. They exist in different forms, some can make the scorching glow of the sun become as cold as snow fall, turn rainfall into snowfall and make it rain heavily in deserted areas."
Dragun spoke. There was a delay in his explanation as he had to defend against the serpents trying to slay him.
Rowan understood immediately.
"Do it then. Why are you ignoring me first?"
"Because the magic formation requires a lot of mana. It would take at least thirty mages on my level to activate it. But we can supplement the unavailability of mages with mana stones."
"Mana stones? How many?"
"At least 200."
"That much???"
"That is the least to be honest. For better results, we need about three hundred."
'Damn, it is that expensive??'
Rowan sighed, but what choice did he have?
"Alright. Help me hold back these guys while I retrieve the mana stones."
Dragun nodded, he weaved another fiery whip and attacked the group fiercely.
Rowan
opened his inventory and brought out three hundred and fifty mana stones. Luckily, he had purchased enough from D'andre.
