Lord of Ascension: The Birth of Chaos-Chapter 66 How to Hatch a Dragon
(In the palace)
Kaelith sat in a dimly lit room. The fire from the hearth cast glowing shadows on his features. His brows furrowed as his eyes moved to the dragon egg and the book in his arms.
’Except from the tome of Drakar
Section IV: Hatchings and bonding with a dragon (Drakar)
To hatch a dragon egg, the bearer must first understand that the egg is alive and not dormant. It has memories and it can listen.
Only a chosen soul can awaken it. And even then, not all awakenings lead to obedience.
Ways to hatch a dragon egg
I. The Blood Test
Before anything else, the egg must recognize you. Place your hand on the shell and let your blood mark it, three drops are enough. If the shell absorbs the blood, the bond can begin. If it rejects it, stop. Do not attempt the ritual again.’
Kaelith’s eyes widened slightly. ’Maybe Scarlet can form a bond with a dragon with his blood.’
He continued reading again.
’II. The Emotional Trigger
The creature inside responds to raw emotion. Fear, rage, and grief. Focus your thoughts on the one thing you’ve buried the deepest, let the emotions rise while your hand stays on the shell. If the egg remains cold, it’s not ready. If it turns warm, continue.
III. Feeding the Egg
Feed the egg with your mana, your life force. Focus and channel just enough to awaken the creature inside. Be careful, the egg can drain more Mana than expected. This is the most dangerous and effective way to awaken a dragon egg. If you are not strong enough, the egg can drain you of your life force.’
Kaelith shut the book. His eyes moved to the dragon egg. A glint flickered through his eyes.
"So how do you want me to awaken you?" He tapped the dragon egg.
The sound of the fire crackling filled the air. Then a knock came from the door.
"Scarlet come inside."
Scarlet pushed the door open, and his long brown blonde hair fell over his face. "Hello, brother." He smiled at him before he entered the room, pushing the door closed.
His dark brown shirt was loosely tied at the chest, and it was tucked into his pants. He sat beside Kaelith. His eyes flicked to the book on top of the table.
"Have you found a way to hatch the egg?" he tilted his head at him, his blue eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"Yes." Kaelith’s voice was cold and devoid of emotion. "And I might have also found a way for you to train a dragon." He pushed the book to him, flipping the pages to the part he had read before.
Scarlet read through it. A small smile of relief formed on his lips. "We can use my blood to form a bond with the dragon." His smile began to falter. "But it says only the blood of a mage can form a bond."
"I know, and I have a plan for that too." Kaelith sounded as if he wanted to be done with the conversation as soon as possible. "But I just want to let you know that there has been a change in plan."
Scarlet nodded, his hands clenching slightly from nervousness. ’Is he going to cancel the plan? I shouldn’t have believed him.’
"We need to leave as soon as possible. The Empress informed me that the Emperor of Summere is coming together with his daughter to visit. They will be here in a month’s time. So we need to leave and return within a month." He said as if he were reciting a poem.
Scarlet’s eyes widened. "Oh, then when do you suggest we leave?"
"Tomorrow."
"But we haven’t arranged the things we need yet, and our skills are not that strong. The northern mountain lies just beside the land of skulls." Scarlet knitted his brows in worry.
Kaelith stared at him for a second longer. "It is now or never." He wasn’t going to let him know that he was at the ascendant stage.
Except they encounter high mages and archmages they are all good... and if they don’t encounter deadly creatures, their journey would be smooth.
Scarlet swallowed. He let out a shaky breath. "All right, I will gather everything we need tonight."
"Let River help you with it."
Scarlet let out a scoff in disbelief. "Are we going to let the thief on our plan?"
"Yes," Kaelith said curtly.
"But why?"
"Because he is a thief." He answered nonchalantly. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I don’t see how that is going to be useful to us."
"Think about it, we are going to the northern mountain to steal. Or do you think we are going there to take a dragon egg because we own it? Tell me who can do the job better than a thief?"
Scarlet pushed his hair to the back of his ear. "Now that you have put it that way, it totally makes sense. But we cannot trust him... what if he runs away with the egg?"
"He wouldn’t dare."
Kaelith’s eyes flicked to the door. A smirk formed on his lips. He whispered to his ring, and the door creaked open. A maid with long brown hair stepped inside the room.
Her big brown eyes widened in horror, and she stiffly walked towards them. She tried to control her body, but she couldn’t. She could only walk towards them.
"What are you doing here?" Scarlet questioned with an irritated look.
The maid fell to her knees. "Forgive me, your highness. I don’t know how I came inside." Her shoulders trembled in fear.
Kaelith’s cold eyes fixated on her, and with a flick of his hand, the door shut closed. The servant shuddered in fear, her eyes welled up.
"Who sent you?" Kaelith relaxed back on his chair, his fingers drumming on the table in a slow rhythm.
Fear flicked through the servant’s eyes. "No one, no one sent me my prince."
"Is that so? Then why were you eavesdropping on our conversation?"
"I wasn’t eavesdropping, I was only passing by."
Kaelith’s smirk widened as his eyes sparkled with mischief. "I believe you. Stand up."
"Brother, you can’t just let her go. She is lying." Scarlet’s voice trembled with anger.
"Be nice Scarlet, she said she didn’t do it." He smiled lopsidedly at Scarlet. "Stand up." He turned to the servant.
"Thank you, my Prince. Your grace knows no bounds." She wiped her tears with the edge of her sleeve.
"Hmmm." Kaelith began. "I happen to need your help. My dragon egg is showing no sign of hatching soon. And my magic is too shallow to help."
The servant’s eyes flicked to the egg sitting on the table. A small smirk formed on her lips, but she quickly masked it. "I can help you transfer some mana to it."
’Just enough to see if your dragon is more powerful than that of Prince Draco. If it is, I can easily destroy it from inside the shell.’
"Really? That is so kind of you." Kaelith stood up from the chair, taking a step backward, and he motioned for Scarlet to move away.
The servant closed her eyes, and then soft pink energy began to flow from her hand to the dragon egg.
