Lord of The Karmic Armada-Chapter 24: Into the Darkness
Chapter 24: Into the Darkness
Valtar was running at a moderate speed and was already close to the area of the elves.
The Darkness was getting heavier and heavier as he approached the border.
Eventually, as he reached the border, he stopped momentarily and cautiously eyed the area he would enter. Now, it was most likely that some elves would ambush him the moment he entered, in the worst-case scenario.
He carefully thought of the plan he had in mind, or actually, it can't really be called a plan.
The only external skill he had in his arsenal, useful for now, was the ghost summons.
Initially, he had summoned 8 ghosts of the first 8 dark elves he killed. Later, after killing Malrith, he summoned his ghost as well, totaling nine ghosts that reside in his body.
Well, Valtar had the blood spear skill too.
Unfortunately, the skill had severe limitations once he summoned the blood spears. He could move it with a very limited range, which would not be very useful. Valtar himself also could not move when attacking with the blood spears. Then, because dark elves specialize in agility and sneak attack, rendering this skill of his utterly useless. Even if he could slay some of the elves in their area the moment he activated this skill, he would likely be killed at that moment.
What he needed the most was great mobility and perception.
He first commanded, "System, activate all my skills, and my stats are unsealed, right?"
[Sensory Perception]
[Survival Instinct]
[Mental Defense]
[Silent Steps]
[Killing Intent]
[All skills have been activated]
He looked at the skills activated and sensed the changes in himself. He could feel the surroundings in much more clarity. Valtar thought about the Karmic Intuition skill for a moment.
[Karmic Intuition is always active, and it cannot be deactivated either,] replied the System.
He nodded in understanding. Valtar also understood that the 'Karmic Intuition' skill couldn't help him in combat. This thing worked in a very strange way.
Then, he pulled up the info on the title he gained in his fight against Zhao.
[Murderous Devil: The more righteous your enemy, the greater they fear you. The skill effect decreases the greater the difference in the stage between the host and his enemy.
Can affect multiple people at once.]
This was also useless at the moment.
He took another deep breath and commanded the system, "Disable my vision."
Valtar, with his measly 20% dark affinity, could see somewhat well in the darkness now, and that's even before entering the elf's area. He was sure he wouldn't be able to see anything once going inside.
Despite his strength as a pathwalker, what's the point if you cannot sense or see your enemy and are unable to fight them? Even a lion can be killed by a harmless snake if the lion can't fight back.
Since the home ground advantage of the elves was too great, he had to depend on his skill's hidden effects.
After his skill High perception evolved into Sensory perception. It had the obvious advantage of enhancing his every sense even further, but the real upgrade was enhancing his other senses significantly once one or more of his senses were disabled.
Normally, if someone else had this skill, they might have to intentionally hurt their senses so that they are unable to see anymore or burst their eardrums to enhance the other remaining senses.
Fortunately for him, the system could do that without him having to hurt himself.
[Your nerve connection with your visual sense has been disabled.] stated the system.
The moment system said that he could no longer feel his eyes. He could see nothing.
"So, this is what it feels like being blind."
But what truly shocked Valtar was how much his other senses were enhanced.
It was almost frightening. He could hear so much with his ears, his sense of smell was enhanced very sharply, as well as his sense of touch and even sense of taste.
For a moment, he felt like a dog who could smell anything or a bat who could hear anything.
He couldn't imagine if more of his senses were cut off, how terrifyingly the remaining sense would be enhanced.
Now, while his vision was gone and his other senses were enhanced, the skill sensory perception gave him a kind of weird view combining the other senses. This was also one of the perks of the skill.
With this much, he was ready to face the Darkness, and it could not affect him that much anymore.
So, without any more fanfare, he walked closer to the hole in the barrier and jumped forward.
The moment he did so, his eyes turned cold. His focus was turned to the absolute peak as he could feel his survival instinct warning him of the incoming danger from all the corners.
He positioned himself properly with his sword ready and made a full-force attack at whatever was coming.
It was arrows, extremely fast arrows, coming from all corners, making sure he had no way out.
The real problem here was that he could not tell how many elves were surrounding him.
Despite him disabling his vision to enhance other senses, his senses were suppressed to half of their area of effect the moment they entered the enemy ground.
Normally, after becoming a pathwalker, his sensory perception skill could sense about 30m of diameter area. Then, after disabling his visionary sense, it would probably be even greater, but now he could barely feel 15m of diameter area.
Even then, he wasn't too worried. The moment those arrows entered his senses, with one swift horizontal slash, all of them were deflected, and not a single one could harm him.
Taking the opportunity, he rushed forward at full speed.
The dark elves guarding the area of the entrance were horrified by the fact that their princess, Elmyra, did not return.
Though it was hard for them to accept, they were prepared somewhat, but what they did not expect was a young and handsome human coming out and deflecting all of their powerful arrows so casually.
Their tribe leader warned them that either his daughter Elmyra would come out or an old human named Zhao would come.
It had been 7-8 hours since Princess Elmyra went to the Eastern area and the whole time this place was guarded with absolute focus, intending on injuring their enemy the moment they came in, keeping in mind of the worst-case scenario.
So, for neither Zhao nor Princess Elmyra to come out, they were naturally baffled for one or two seconds. Now, not only did the human deflect all the arrows, but he also did it with relative ease, which for any creature that is not of darkness is almost impossible to do.
Thankfully, the elves were glad that they were not alone. One of the third-stage elders was stationed here as well. It was the third elder.
The third elder did not immediately make a move but rather observed the human closely as he rushed forward, the instant he deflected the arrows.
He commanded the other elves, "Go take care of him."
His tone was full of authority, with no room left for denial.

The dark elves couldn't help but shudder slightly. They were all extremely strong archers on 2nd stage, and their full-power arrows were deflected so casually by the human and now to take on the human head-on, even if the 12 elves attacked him combined, some of them would die.
Some of them understood that the crafty old man simply wanted to find out what cards the human had without taking risks himself. Even then, they dared not disobey or complain in the slightest and jumped forward with their swift and deadly movement skills.
