Chapter 138: White and Pure

’That was eventful’

Kieran thought on the way back to his dorm. He had hurried away without listening to the rest of the conversion.

After hearing something that shook him that bad, he wasn’t sure if he could escape their surveillance. If his presence hadn’t even been caught on to already by Asher.

There was no room to underestimate his capabilities after all.

Turns out the Aurora family had harboring someone who was either a ticking time bomb or an ambitious fool.

It was insane to think that Sabrina, coming from the direct line of descendants of the original owner of the Aurora name and the creator of the family had such an intention.

Approaching Asher, the next in line for the leadership of the black family, a family that was to the public eye a loyal vassal family, having the protection of the Aurora family.

Kieran didn’t know what to think of that loyalty if the next in line was conspiring to bring down the very family that offered it protection.

’It can’t be that simple!’

Kieran thought, crashing onto his bed.

Of course it couldn’t be that simple.

He gathered a lot of information and rumors about the pillar families and their vassals in his quest to understand their dynamics a little. A quest he gave up on long ago.

During that time, he had found several rumors going around as to why a family like the Black’s would choose to become a vassal of the Aurora’s.

For such a battle oriented family, the vast majority of people expected them to serve the Adramalech pillar family. The pillar family which had the reputation of dangerous battle maniacs.

An image he failed to see when he came in contact with Akilina twice. Then again, what she was like when they met and what she looked like during the battle clips he had seen were two different things. No doubt, they worth their reputation.

It would have made sense if the black family went to serve a family like that, one which fit the ways of battle the family had set for themselves.

Yet to the shock and utter confusion of everyone who witnessed it, they went into service for the pillar house of Aurora.

Despite the turmoil and commotion this decision of their caused for the general populace, people eventually accepted the already made decision and it only increased the aura of mystery that shrouded the Aurora family.

They had been quiet for years and even without doing anything, an action which sent shockwaves through most of humanity was somehow linked to them.

The Black family weren’t a low-tier noble family. They were a family with a reputation sufficiently matching their name.

The military was filled with countless praises and murals in respect to the outstanding soldiers who served them from the Black house.

Asher was going down a greater path than that of his predecessors, breaking any and every record they had set before him.

Who would have thought someone like him could have such intentions towards the pillar house his family had chosen to serve.

And from the words Kieran had heard, Asher had been concealing this side of his for quite a while and Sabrina had just outed him.

This opened on Kieran’s eyes to what it meant when the head chef and leora warned him about alliances and political power within the recruits of the camp shifting.

To him, this camp was a means for him to raise his standing from that of an ordinary commoner and uncover the things hidden from him about his parents death. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

The more Kieran thought about it, the more he was convinced that there was something more to it than just ’a fire accident’. The box the detective had mailed to him just backed those thoughts.

That was his goal, a simple and very personal objective.

Unlike him, the other recruits of the camp of Noble descent had different, bigger goals.

This camp wasn’t just a place they were sent for them to toughen and bullshit like that.

No, the origin camp was a building ground for them. A training ground. A place where they were put in to represent their families and the fight for political advantage.

Here they could spot who and which group could be a threat by the time they left and took their respective positions. They could form alliances that would either last or crumble before or after they left.

The origin camp was used as a sophisticated development scheme by the noble familes and for the most part, the military didn’t care.

For them it was a worthwhile transaction.

They had a access to a huge amount of resources coming from the pockets of all the noble houses involved.

Kieran was thrown into this planet without much say. The others had paid and struggled just to get a spot, yet so many of them had been eliminated on the first test during the sandstorm.

It wasn’t a matter of strength, but Kieran and the other’s recruits were living in completely separate worlds. They were in a world that Kieran by no means wanted to get involved in.

Whether he could stay true to that conviction though was up to time and his future experiences.

’Sigh, I should get some shut eye’

Kieran closed his eyes, pushing the events he had just witnessed to the back of his mind.

They were in a different world than his, what happened there shouldn’t have anything to do with him, he didn’t want it to.

It was best not to do anything based on what he now knew, especially if he wanted to fulfill his promise of laying low to August.

They had their problems and he had his to deal with.

Those were Kieran’s thoughts as he drifted into the realm of sleep, finally getting the rest he had been craving all day.

Thoughts that were going to be rendered null soon as he had no idea what fate had in store for him.

.....

"Ethan must not know about this! You know happenes the moment he does right?"

Sabrina said, looking out from the balcony of her new dormitory. Courtesy of her father and she had of course gone through the room more times than she could count; there was no monitoring device present.

It seemed her father hadn’t completely ran insane and lost his honor.

"Yes, my lady!"

Liam replied in a monotone voice.

"Drop it already, Liam. I didn’t have a choice and that was the best way for me to trust you. I’m not going to apologize if that’s what you’re waiting for."

Sabrina said, adjusting the coat that draped over her figure.

Her eyes looked clouded concealing whatever she was feeling and thinking.

"Sigh. I know, I know. Still doesn’t change a anything. I think you should give up. As for Ethan, he can be easily dealt wit—"

"Don’t!"

Sabrina’s voice was rigid and absolute, cutting into Liam.

"Don’t do that too, Liam. Don’t act like you didn’t know from the start where this was going to end. Don’t act like you actually thought this was all about my father’s decision to send me off into the arms of Ethan and his family. You might not know the motivation and reason behind my actions, but you saw the signs and you knew more than anyone else what was coming!"

Sabrina said, the cool breeze going past her figure. It was rather chilly that high up in the mountains tonight.

"....."

Liam remained silent at those words. Each fact she stated hitting him like solid bricks.

She was indeed right. He knew where this was going. He had been noting the signs even before they reported to the camp and yet, he kept quiet, choosing not to report back to the family or back to her father directly.

"Fine. I won’t ask that of you anymore!"

"Thank you!"

Liam said and Sabrina thanked him.

"We should be thinking of how to go about our next moves."

"We need go identify and get rid of some people in this camp. I also have to think of a way to get rid of Ethan once and for all....."

Sabrina trailed and the cloudiness in her eyes faded to reveal a gradually shining light as she thought of an idea.

"I’ll do the needful and take care of them, you just say it!"

Liam offered, staring at the back of Sabrina.

"No need, I just might kill them myself."

Her words came as a huge surprise to Liam who was beginning to feel like he was knowing her less by the second.

’Since when...?"

He wondered when she had become so comfortable to talk about killing people like it was nothing.

Liam had been taking missions and had spilt the blood of several people for the sake of the family, so killing wasn’t anything new to him.

But Sabrina was known was the ice princess of the Aurora family. To him she was like a white rose, pure and devoid of the evil stains that this world carried. This was one thing he respected and adored about her, something he swore to protect, so why....?

"Don’t think too much about it, Liam. I already made up my mind the moment I chose to walk down this path. You should have seen this coming too!"
