Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 48: Viscount Hawkins Scarlet
"You’re a hard person to see chief!" Viscount Hawkins, the head of Crane city said to William, the chief of the security corps in the city.
"I’ve just been a little busy, that’s all" The chief responded.
"So have I!" Viscount Hawkins replied with a small chuckle.
"You didn’t just invite me just to drink tea, did you Lord Hawkins?" The chef said, staring at the teacup in his hands.
"Of course not! Let me go to the heart of this meeting!" The viscount said.
"It’s about the incident that happened in the slums a few months ago. Although it happened in the slums, it bothers me for some reason. I also haven’t got a report from your corps!" The Viscount started.
"Hmmm? We already made an official statement. It was a fire incident that happened due to the carelessness if those rats in the slums"
The chief said, feigning ignorance, but he couldn’t fool the head of the city.
"A statement that didn’t go through my desk! I think you are mistaken about something. You might be the chef of the corps in this city, but this is my city and your security corps just happen to fall under my power!"
The city head said dropping all courtesy at the chief’s disrespectful behaviour.
"Now, I won’t ask again! I’ve made my own investigations as to this matter and I’ve not seen pleasing results. So, as you step out of here now, I want a statement from your desk and it better be good lest you don’t value your head!"
The Viscount said to the chief who had beads of sweat rolling down his face due to the sudden spike in temperature if the room.
"Alright!" The chief said, standing up to take his leave.
Before he stepped out if the room though. The Viscount called out one last time.
"Have the person in charge of the case deliver the report himself!" He said to the chief before he left the room completely.
"Is he going to be ok?" The chief thought worriedly as he made his way out of the Scarlet mansion.
Later that day......
Located in the inner zone of Crane city, not too far from the centre where the city lord resided was an extremely tall tower. Its height easily surpassed most of the other skyscrapers in the city and at the helm of this tower was an extremely bold logo with a holographic string of words which read "Prime security" rotating around the tower in a circle.
In an office just behind where the logo was placed sat a middle-aged man who looked to be in his forties, his hair already greying, although, mostly from the stress of his job which had in many ways accelerated his aging.
The man sat at the desk with his hands buried in his hair as he let out a sigh of frustration.
KNOCK! KNOCK!!
"Come in!"
The man said upon hearing the knock on his door.
"Good afternoon sir...."
A cool voice was heard from the person who stepped in, but he paused his words upon seeing the mess in the room. There were several files along with broken glass shards scattered on the floor.
The man who had stepped in though couldn’t care less about the condition of the room as he made his way to the front of the desk to state his purpose.
"The reports of the investigation, chief!"
He said with a cold and detached expression to the man in front of him.
Yes! The man who looked unkept, who had made his office appear as such a mess was the Chief of the security department, William Zexter, who had just gotten back from the city lord’s manor after a rather unpleasant meeting with the Viscount.
The chief stared at the file, the detective in charge of the case had just dropped on his desk before looking back up to dee the departing figure of the detective already at the door, his hands on the knob, ready to leave.
He quickly rushed out of his seat, almost stumbling, ruining his image even more, but he couldn’t care less as he shouted to prevent the detective from leaving.
"Lucian!"
"What is it?"
The detective paused and asked, with his back still facing the chief.
"Wait, I have a something for you!"
The chief said.
"Does it have something to do with your current state?" the detective asked, the disgust evident in his voice.
"Yes! The Viscount wants you to deliver the report to him personally!" he said, moving back to his seat.
"Alright!" the detective said, moving back to pick up the report he had dropped on the chiefs table.
"Lucian, be careful. He wants to hear something new!"
The chief warned the detective only to receive a sneer.
"So, that’s what’s got you wet in the pants!" he muttered before leaving the office to its owner.
....
"Scarlets! I guess that makes sense!" Kieran muttered to himself as he laid on the hard floor of the library, a small tower of books piled up beside him.
He had just found out something and he could help but feel stupid for ignoring something so obvious for so long.
This was the first time his complete disinterest in the world governments structure and everything that had to do with it made him feel this way.
’I was foolish to think that way, I have to stop! As a recruit, I’m already part of the system.’ He thought to himself.
He wasn’t wrong for blaming himself. After all, he just found out that the man who amplified his already existing hate for noble families, belonged to a pillar family! Even though it was very much likely to be a branch family, it was no small thing.
Richard Scarlet. Just like his name implied, he came from the Scarlet family, one of the 9 pillar families.
He had just finished reading a book related to them and he was definitely surprised to see Richard’s surname among the list of the pillar families. He even thought that it could just be a coincidence, but he let go if that thought moments later.
It explained why the other kids of noble lineage were so submissive around him.
After reading the rest of the book, he easily came to the conclusion that he was of a branch family, but that didn’t reduce the impact it had on him as he had to idea of the standing of his family amongst the other branch families. The fact that they were the head of a major city and that their head, Viscount Hawkins was very close to becoming the head of the planet and elevating his status hinted that they weren’t a low branch family.
’That means she too....’ Kieran thought, Sabrina’s face showing up in his mind. Her surname was also among the list of pillar families, The Aurora Family.
The book description of them was faint. It was more like there was nothing to describe about them.
The 9 pillar families at the top of the world Government were; The Scarlets, Aurora, Wildearth, Adramalech, Callahan, La morte, Dusanka, Dagon, and Silvus Family.
Kieran was surprised to know that he had made contact with members of three of those families, even if they weren’t from the main branch.
There was Richard from the Scarlets, Sabrina and Liam from the Aurora and from the way they interacted, Kieran could tell that Sabrina was of a higher standing than Liam. There was also Derrick, the recruit with a quiet personality different from Kieran’s, he was from the Wildearth family.
With that, Kieran had just made out a list of people who believed was safe to assume had abilities.
He had learned from the talk with Jake and Ruby the other day that the pillar families had the highest concentration of people with abilities and that the abilities were unique to each family since they all inherited it from their ancestors.
This was also the case for most noble families with a long history. Even if they all didn’t have the same ability, the one’s they had were related in some manner to each other.
After reading the book, Kieran scoured the rest of the library available to him, even narrowing down his search to the nine families with the aid of his watch and after reading then all which resulted to the stack of books beside him, Kieran found no mention of the existence of abilities.
It was just like Jake had said, it wasn’t made official till date. One Kieran did notice were some inconsistencies in several books, like holes in the story that he hadn’t noticed before. Now that he had knowledge of ’abilities’, he began to notice those holes in the Information told by those books.
BEEP! BEEP!!
He got a beep sound from his watch signalling the end of his time in the library. Just like that he had spent three days isolated in the library.
’I should head out and come back later’
Kieran thought, standing up to return the stack of books back to their places.
When he was done with that, he stepped out of the library, heading to the kitchen to grab a quick meal before heading back to the library like had planned. He had gained a new habit of eating in the kitchen instead of ordering from the counter, working as a chef for such a long time made him prefer cooking his own meals.
He spent more time than he had expected in the kitchen with the head chef taking the chance to teach him some lessons before he disappeared again. Once he stepped out, an extra meal in hand, on his way to the library, his watched beeped again.
’what is it this time?’ Kieran thought.
