Chapter 596: Princess Cecilia’s Notebook

"Then I’ll go back first, Arielle. Take care of yourself.

Arielle hugged Otis and escorted the man out of the palace gates. Otis and Luffy were escorted by a small cart to a deserted place where there was no one could see Luffy’s shifted into dragons.

Maximeno paid no heed to that and immediately shifted into a dragon right on the palace grounds and soared high through the clouds out of sight.

Arielle who saw the departure of her friends could only let out a long sigh. She turned and saw her husband standing on one of the palace pillars waiting for her.

"Finally, that bastard is gone," said Ronan, relieved that Maxineo was out of his sight. And he hoped it would be a forever.

Arielle approached Ronan who was still waiting for her with his back leaning against the pillar. The man reached out his hand and invited her to come with him to his study.

"Otis picked up the dragon?" Ronan asked.

Arielle. "Yes, and he also brought me this book."

She took off her winter coat and showed the thick book that was starting to look faded with a red snowdrop on it.

"What’s that?" Ronan asked curiously.

Arielle gave the book Otis brought to her husband, so the man could see it too. She invited him to sit by the fireplace. Ronan, who was used to his wife’s habit, went along without protest. Arielle patted an empty space beside her, telling Ronan to sit beside her.

Ronan almost laughed at how easily the girl ordered him to do this and that even though he was a king. He then took a small pillow that was on the couch and hugged it on his lap so he could see the contents of the book.

"What book is it?" Ronan asked while looking at the thick book confusedly.

When Arielle opened it, Ronan immediately knew that it was a book written in ancient writing and spelling. The girl wouldn’t be able to read that. Ronan could read it. Since young, he was taught to read and write the ancient spelling because the king had a special room where each previous king’s note in ancient writing could only be entered by the next king.

Besides him, Priest Luise and Priest Elis could also read it. Thus, Ronan trusted them to translate the draft of the previous king’s notes into new writing and spelling so that, in the future, it could be used as a basis for new knowledge.

Arielle turned the pages of the book.

"What language is this?" she asked confusedly.

"It’s our language that uses the ancient spelling. Want me to read it?" Ronan offered to help Arielle.

"Can you read it?"

"Hm-hm. The kings had a special room where they wrote down many important notes that only the king and his successors knew. If you remember a small room that was by the library window, it was the room. There are a lot of notes written in the ancient spelling and I studied them when I was young too."

Arielle placed the thick book on Ronan’s lap. "Oh... this book is quite thick. Won’t it interfere with your work?" she asked again.

Ronan held Arielle’s chin with one hand and placed a soft kiss on the girl’s lips. "I can continue my work later, but the time I can spend with you won’t come twice," he replied, making Arielle blush.

The girl lowered her head and told Ronan to start reading it for her.

"The last night of winter and the first morning of spring was the time of my birth. That was when a unique small bell-shaped plant grew and bloomed beautifully. Its pure white color gave grace to both a man and a woman, a white-haired princess that shone brightly like a very pure blank paper without any flaws."

"But, behind all the pureness that the baby had, her eyes were not able to see. She was born blind and both of them gave the name Cecillia, which meant blind."

Ronan and Arielle looked at each other. It was Princess Cecil’s memoir. Ronan frowned, wondering where did Otis get this old book?

"I don’t know either. Lord Otis just said the book was completely guarded by the dragons of the Thebis Desert. They said they wanted to give it to me," said Arielle.

Ronan touched the part of the paper that did look very old, but the book was really well preserved. Even the records of King Theodore, the first King of Northendell couldn’t last this good. Some of the parts were torn, and it was really fragile. If the pages were flipped, they could be torn easily. Besides, some of the ink itself had begun to fade.

It was totally different from Princess Cecil’s well-preserved memoir. Even though the paper had turned brown, it was still very good and not that fragile.

"The book is still very well preserved," Ronan said while touching the cover gently and fell silent for a while.

"Why, Ronan? Why stop?" Arielle asked. She was very curious about the next story and what really happened between Princess Cecilia, Amadea, and all the curses that had happened until now.

So far, there were many confusing stories, and the story that Arielle believed the most was the story from Otis. However, the old man also said that probably most of the stories weren’t really actual because he was just reading it from the literatures. It was from the literatures of the dragon clan who also became the witnesses of the incident hundreds of years ago.

"Oh, nothing. I’m just a little skeptical. What if this book is just the writings of the dragon clan you mentioned earlier? This book really looks almost like new," Ronan replied.

"Hmm? I don’t think so. I believe that this book was written directly by Princess Cecil." Arielle closed the cover and pointed at the cover, which had a red snowdrop engraved on it.

"This is not just an ordinary snowdrop flower that is white. This is the symbol of Princess Cecil," said Arielle.

"Ah, I see... sorry if I offended you. Then, do you want to continue the story?"

Arielle nodded, and Ronan opened the book again. He also repeated the opening sentence that he had read earlier.
