Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 701: Distorted History
"And the curse of the Royal Family started from the conflict between men and women as well. King Theodore is my grandfather, but I hate him. If only he opened his heart to his wife and didn’t let a concubine appear in his life, we might be living in spring right now."
"You know what has happened?"
Princess Bertha shook her head. "No one knows for sure what had happened, and it also happened before I was born. However, I know that King Theodore spent his old age full of torment. The old man had to live with blisters until his death. Do you know who was always with him until he finally took his last breath? His wife, Queen Alicia, the woman he abandoned for a woman of unknown origin."
"Queen Alicia ... took care of King Theodore until the end?"
Princess Bertha let go of Arielle’s hand and nodded.
"My grandmother used to say, if only she was prettier and more attractive, maybe her husband wouldn’t have gone to Mount Birwick to chase his mistress who had run away with another man.
"And when my grandfather led a huge war, he returned with snow that already filled the entire land of Northendell. For months, he searched for the source of the snow and came back almost completely burnt. No one knows for sure what happened because from then until he was seventy, he was just a breathing corpse."
Arielle covered her mouth. Could it be related to King Theodore’s attack on the village when Princess Cecillia gave birth?
"So ask anything you want to know about King Theodore. I’m not sure that I can give many details, but I remember some stories my grandmother used to tell me."
"Queen Alicia?" Arielle asked carefully.
"Yes, a woman who is very patient and never knows the word ’give in’."
A very understanding woman, huh? Every person had their own perspective story. However, taking advantage of one’s kindness and power for one’s own benefit, wasn’t that selfish?
Besides, from the point of view written by Princess Cecillia, it was clear that Queen Alicia deliberately took advantage of Princess Cecillia’s kindness and did the most heinous thing. Arielle always got goosebumps every time she remembered what Princess Cecilia had gone through.
Enduring pain and desperately crying for help, but no one wanted to help her because the people around her, from nobles to maids and servants, craved for the same thing. They hurt Princess Cecillia’s body for the sake of a drop of blood that could heal any illnesses and injuries.
If it was not vile and selfish, then what was it called?
"Did Queen Alicia ever say anything... about King Theodore’s concubine at that time?" asked Arielle to Grandmother Bertha.
Arielle made a note to take all the answers into account first, considering Grandmother Bertha only knew the stories from Queen Alicia’s point of view. Meanwhile, as Grandmother Bertha had said before, King Theodore returned with almost his entire body having severe burns and was unable to do anything until the end of his life.
"The concubine, huh? The woman who ran off with another man made King Theodore almost go rampant and destroy his own kingdom. My grandmother said that the woman was a witch. She was a very beautiful woman that enchanted the King to become queen."
Grandmother Bertha told Arielle that Queen Alicia ran away from the palace because she was slandered by the witch disguised as the king’s concubine and the woman spread out that Queen Alicia almost killed her. However, it ended up as an empty accusation, and the king begged Queen Alicia to return.
After hearing the story from Grandmother Bertha, Arielle knew what was going on through Princess Cecillia’s mind. At that time, King Theodore had just returned from the war and found the condition of Princess Cecillia who was full of wounds, and the king ended up hanged every worker in the palace and replaced them with the new ones.
Queen Alicia ran away because at that time only King Theodore and she knew about Princess Cecillia’s power. What’s more, King Theodore didn’t beg her to come back, instead he chased after her and spread a wanted list with a handsome reward for anyone who could find Queen Alicia and her family.
Grandmother Bertha continued her story, saying that during the absence of the queen, the witch tried to seduce King Theodore to make her the new queen. King Theodore was a man, and men had three sources of deficiency; wealth, power, and women. All of them would lead to their own ruin. Seeing a beautiful woman seducing him, King Theodore almost did what the witch asked him to do.
It was at that time that Queen Alicia returned and confronted the concubine, and finally the concubine ran away from the palace. Then, King Theodore got even mad after he knew that the concubine had conceived a baby from another man. That was when things got even more chaotic.
Arielle listened to everything carefully without intending to interrupt or argue what Grandmother Bertha said. After all, that was what Queen Alicia had said to her descendants.
"Although Queen Alicia was already heartbroken by what the king had done, she still opened her arms and accepted him again. Finally, for the first time, her husband treated her well like a real wife and a handsome prince was born."
King Theodore and Queen Alicia didn’t have any more children. They only had one successor. However, somehow the news about Queen Alicia getting pregnant had reached the witch’s ears, and she couldn’t let go of her biggest desire to destroy Queen Alicia because probably she still held a grudge for having to leave the palace in such an embarrassing way.
The woman put a curse on the descendant of King Theodre as well as Queen Alicia, and when the Queen gave birth, she actually gave birth to a baby wolf, not a human. Arielle was quite surprised when she heard Grandmother Bertha saying that King Theodore was not mad and cursed the concubine for putting a curse on his son. Instead, he apologized to Quen Alicia for that incident.
