Lunar Awakening-Chapter 70: Overwhelming Power.
A tremendous force of power sent the corpse general spinning through the air, all of its limbs shredded to pieces like paper. A pained shriek escaped from somewhere beneath its hideous form, causing the walls to shatter and the floor to tremble.
As the dust slowly settled, Roxy was left standing before a weakened Guetta. "Are you fine?" she asked without taking her eyes off the monstrosity and the tall man who still chose to remain from the combat.
Guetta was left dumbfounded by the fear the young woman before him had displayed. He could not tell how, but she had just displayed strength that far surpassed his own. With her transcendent artifacts by her side, she had more than sufficient power; it was all down to her personal skill.
"Whatever she used on me, I’ll be able to move in a few minutes," he said gruffly. "If you can hold out till then, I’ll lend you a hand."
He still asked himself how she had interfered in his battle without making herself known. He wondered if she had an invisibility ability or something that masked her entire being.
She smiled slightly as she said. "Who said anything about holding out? I’m taking this bitch to hell."
"No!" The monstrosity let out another ear-piercing screech as its body shifted unnaturally like liquid flesh. Its shape changed from that of a horse to that of a huge dragonfly with eight bone-like legs and six wings. "You just cost me over a dozen corpses, I’ll kill you."
Roxy said nothing for a second, then she laughed and twirled both of her scimitars so fast in each and that they appeared like turbines in her hands. It was in that moment that everyone in the hall discovered that this young woman might have been more of a threat than they initially thought.
The corpse creature wasted no time blasting through the air like a speeding bullet at a velocity even an awakened superhuman would be unable to handle. "I’ll skin you alive."
What Roxy did, however, surprised everyone even more. Instead of dodging or attacking, she simply threw her scimitar at the corpse creature.
"What on earth are you doing?" Guetta barked in agitation as he watched the corpse general dodge the seemingly flimsy attack.
Before his eyes, Roxy vanished into thin air without leaving any trace that she had been there in the first place. It only took another second for her to reappear, materialising right behind the corpse general, which had no time to register the shift.
"Flowing water battle art, first technique. Overflow!" Roxy muttered in a cool, collected voice as she cut through the body of the corpse general with ease, shredding its latter half into perfect slices. This resulted in the corpse puppet crashing into the ground and falling down to the lower floor of the building. "All talk and no show, I hate your type the most."
Guetta was left even more puzzled than before. How had she vanished and reappeared just like that? Something did not add up. He tried to think back to the missing pieces. At first it did not register, but after a few more seconds something clicked in his mind. Roxy had not vanished until she had thrown her scimitar, and when she reappeared it was in her hand. Could he conclude that her ability attracted her to the scimitar, or that the transcendent artifact possessed such an ability?
Whatever made her special, it was obvious that Roxy was a wildcard who had kept her abilities well hidden.
Roxy was an awakened legacy bearer with one of the most sophisticated abilities. Her first ability allowed her to teleport to objects that belonged to her within a certain radius.
When she had thrown her scimitar earlier, it was to allow her to teleport closer to the opponent and throw them off guard. This ability had helped her win more fights than she cared to count.
At that moment, Roxy heard the sound of gunshots coming from the other end of the room, which took her by surprise. The ground beneath her trembled, preventing her from dividing her attention.
She spun her scimitars as the corpse monstrosity burst out of the ground, screeching like a rabid dog. This time, however, it took the unusual shape of a serpent made of bones, with two huge wings. Its sleek form allowed it to move at a speed too fast for Roxy to react. The corpse general struck her in the chest and sent her flying through the wall and tumbling three stories above the mansion compound.
"This is where you die!" the monstrosity screamed in delight as it watched her fall to her demise.
Roxy, however, was not perturbed. She had one more trick up her sleeve. Her legacy inheritance granted her an ability she could only use three times a day. She wasted no time activating it with the snap of her fingers.
"SWAP!"
The moment she finished her command, she found herself back in the hall, with the corpse monstrosity taking her place outside the mansion.
Guetta’s jaw dropped, his mind thrown into further confusion. "What did you just do?"
The corpse monstrosity screeched as it flapped its wings hard to stop its descent, then darted through the air toward Roxy, its ruby eyes burning with mad rage. "I’ll kill you and turn your corpse into a chair."
Roxy smiled as she tightened her grip on both weapons and exhaled. "Flowing water battle art, second technique. Ripping tide."
The two forces collided, one with brutal force and the other with delicate, beautiful swordsmanship. At a glance, it was easy to see who was truly dominating the battle. The twin scimitars were wielded with a level of precision that made the blades seem to melt and become formless. They swam through invisible waves as they cut through the corpse monstrosity and violently tore it to shreds, leaving no part of it intact.
A pained shriek escaped the corpse monstrosity as it was shredded to pieces before slowly disintegrating into ashes. Cotton, the corpse puppeteer, emerged from the remains before collapsing onto the ground. Her face was bloodied and worn to the point that she was barely breathing.
Guetta should have felt relieved to have such a comrade by his side. Instead, he felt terrified by her power. Unlike him, who had charged into the fight headfirst, she had observed everything. Her abilities, whatever they were, perfectly countered the opponent. Yet one thing still bothered him—there had to be a limit to what she could do. Otherwise, she would be an unstoppable force.
Roxy walked over to the little girl who had caused all this trouble and looked down at her pale face. She looked pitiful as she struggled to cling to life. Roxy’s eyes held no pity or remorse, only a strong resolve to end her enemies.
"All that talk earlier, and look at you now. I thought little girls were always taught to behave. I guess you skipped that class," she said with cold indifference as she raised her scimitar and brought it down toward the young girl’s neck, ready to sever her head clean off.
