Lunar Awakening-Chapter 75: Partners
Leo knocked rhythmically on the door several times, it was already daybreak and the sun was already on their backs.
"Are you sure they’re home schmuck?" Roxy asked as she leaned to his side.
Leo scowled at her for a bit before knocking again, "Why on earth are you even here?"
The young woman looked offended by this question, "We are partners of course, why else wouldn’t we be paired together." She paused for a bit before adding in a lower tone. "Actually I’m a bit behind on rent, and I lost my keys somewhere in the battle."
Mr Neuman had ordered that they leave before they would be the subject of a commotion, he had ordered that as soon as everything had been sorted out they would be without a doubt compensated. They had been dropped off right in front of Leo’s house by daybreak.
The two awakened were fatigued beyond compare, Leo no longer bore any significant wounds but he could hardly stay awake anymore.
He knocked on the door again but there was no answer.
"Are you sure you live here?" Roxy asked sarcastically.
Leo almost flared up by that question, "What do you mean, sure I’m sure. My dad should be up by now."
She smacked her lips and gave him a series of repeated nods with a strange smile that caused every bone in his body to shiver. "Have you tried calling him?"
Leo forrowed his brows even more in annoyance. "I lost my phone back at the mansion."
She looked away at him, then at the door. There was a long stretch of silence between the two before she spoke again. "You should really buy a doorbell."
Leo could not longer contain all of his pent up frustration and barked at her. "Says the one who can’t even pay her own rent."
Roxy laughed as she slapped Leo on the back, "Fair point. Loosen up will ya. Are you sure you don’t have a key hidden somewhere or an open window?"
There was a strange sense of warmth that the young lady gave that contrasted his own cool demeanour. He smiled a little before knocking on the door once more, a part of him wondered if this was what it felt to have a comrade to share the victory of a battle with. He would be leaving back to the Hellscape soon and would be alone again.
This time he heard a reply from the other end, and a few seconds later there was a click. The door opened up to reveal a beautiful young girl standing there, her eyes still covered in dark bags. She wore a long blue night gown and looked up at the two before her. Her familiar twin pigtails sagged behind her in a rough mess.
"Yes, what can I do for—" she stopped herself as she just recognised one of the two people before her. Her brother ever bringing someone home was something she never thought would happen in her lifetime.
"Hey Trish", Leo waved his hand weakly at her.
The little girl remained silent for a few more seconds, her bright blues eyes shifted between both figures burning with questions. Roxy smiled and then looked at Leo, "What do we have here schmuck, why didn’t you tell me you had such a beautiful angel as your sister. It’s almost impossible to believe she’s related to a stuck up like you."
Trish surprised them both by screaming and twirling around violently, "Daaaad! Nardo’s got a girlfriend!" She screamed so loud that half the neighborhood could hear her already.
Leo was left speechless for several seconds while Roxy laughed her heart out. ’God, kill me.’ Leo groaned inwardly.
Trish paused as something registered into her mind, something she had overlooked once before. She looked at the two once more and gasped, "Is that blood?" She noticed that they were mostly covered in cuts, bruises and blood. Roxy still had trails of dry blood from where her brain had almost exploded, she still felt light hearted from then.
"Trish, she’s my partner." Leo said as they both walked into the room and shut the world behind them. "She needs to rest."
Trish did not know how to feel about her brother having a partner at first but after a moment she warmed up and approached Roxy and asked in an eager tone. "My brother has a partner? Are you badass?"
Roxy’s face lit up at this question, she pulled away from Leo who had been her arm rest for so long and leaned closer to the young girl and said in a cocky tone. "You better your tuition fees I am, the baddest of the baddest."
Trish jumped up, unable to contain her excitement. "Really, what about my brother? Was he amazing?"
Leo who had not paid them any mind suddenly found his mind on the matter of their discussion, he knew how Roxy was and wondered what she would say. Most likely she would compliment his prowess, right? 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Roxy groaned excessively before saying. "Meh, he was manageable."
Hearing this Leo flared up even more, "What the hell do you mean, I was the highlight of the day?"
She giggled innocently.
"I have never heard my son caused such a ruckus since he was a child." Jonas said as he rolled into the scene on his electric wheelchair. "I was worried you wouldn’t return and you brought a friend."
Leo asked himself if he could call her a friend, "I prefer the term partner."
Roxy waved to the man in the wheelchair and he waved back.
Leo sighed heavily, "We need to rest for a bit."
"Single bed or double bed?" His father said, he caught his son’s frown causing him to chuckle nervously. "Common, I’m kidding."
Roxy cleared her throat as she spoke, "First things first, I need to eat."
Leo glared at her but she only smiled and winked back.
Meanwhile an hour before at the portal station an army of armed militants stood with huge laser blasters aimed at one figure who had just come from the other end.
It was a tall woman with long dark hair and holding a longsword.
Other superhumans who were about going into the portal were forced to run away in fear, some hung around in the distance to watch the bizzare scene unfold.
On the speakers a dark male voice spoke, "Listen up, you are not registered within the database. You will now be apprehended and punished for illegal entry. Please do not resist."
Cassandra exhaled sharply as she tightened the grip on her sword, "Oh right. I forgot, I’m not supposed to exist."
She told a step forward despite the weapons aimed at her, "Don’t not proceed further, if you take another step we will be forced to take deadly measures."
Cassandra eyes sparked a bright blue light as she furrowed her brows. "You government pricks always getting on my nerves. But I have to find Leonardo."
She dashed forward towards the mass of militants already firing off their laser rifles in her way, she dodged through them all perfectly as she closed the gap.
Alarms blared on all sides as the building was beginning to get closed off by huge metal doors. Seeing this Cassandra exhaled again, she released all of her aura across the entire of the station, attacking everyone at once and incapacitating them within seconds.
She reached the door before it closed shut and slid underneath it to freedom. Cassandra rose to her feet just as it shut behind her, her face showing no form of fatigue or weariness. She instead sighed and looked at the thrilling city before her.
She was not given a second more to breath before a huge black SUV approached her and screeched to a halt before her. Cassandra recognized the logo of the government on the car but remained neutral.
The black tinted window dropped to reveal a dark skinned woman with short grey hair on her head. Her eyes were glowing silver, her features dark and sharp. She looked at Cassandra and said, "Get in."
Cassandra said nothing at first she instead looked away, "Why would I want to get in a government dog’s car?"
The woman on the other end bit her lower lip, her forehead wrinkling in irritation. "Because your mother said so!"
Cassandra again went silent for a long time before saying, "Doesn’t change what you are."
The woman pushed open the door, "It’s a wonder how I raised you. Listen, you should not have come back so soon. You’re not an ascended yet, the moment the other powerful clans find out you’re still alive-- it’ll be hell."
Cassandra looked at the woman and said in a neutral tone. "I wouldn’t be back if it wasn’t for a good reason, I need to find an old friend."
The woman raised an eyebrow, "You have a friend?"
Cassandra nodded slowly, "He’s a legacy, and he’s a key part in my plan. And he’s going to die."
The woman held her forehead and fell silent for several seconds before saying with a loud groan. "Just get in the damn car already. We have a lot to discuss."
