Lunar Awakening-Chapter 82: Return To Glory Base
Leo groaned as he exited the portal into the station, he had a huge bag hanging by his waist with clothes stacked in them. He felt largely uneasy for a reason he could not quite place, after bidding his family goodbye he went straight to Hellscape.
He wondered if the uneasiness in his heart stemmed from him being away from there for too long. But then again, he had only been away for roughly a week. He doubted much would have changed within that time.
As he got to where he would submit his ID card he found a face he recognised almost immediately. It was the same tall woman who had attended to him on that rather unfaithful day when he had suffered a lot of broken bones.
On seeing him she frowned and rolled her eyes, "Oh it’s you!"
Leo was already used to such remarks, he formed a weak smile on his face and said. "Hey Eunice, how have you been these stressful day?" From his tone it was easy to tell that he was not trying to sound polite, but merely teasing her.
Instead of giving him a pass Eunice hesitated for a few seconds before picking up her phone and calling someone. This caused Leo to frown deeply. "Commander, he’s here."
’Oh, God no!" Leo screamed internally as he tried to swipe his ID card from her hand only for her to tuck it away in her pocket. "Why the hell are you surge dogs to annoying these days."
Eunice rolled her eyes and groaned again, "I swear to God almighty, I don’t know what the commander sees inside a loser like you. It makes me want to sit on your face and fart in it." She said in a sadistic tone.
Leo smiled again and said, "That is an unlikely way to place a threat."
She did not take him seriously she instead pointed to the inner quarters of the station. "The commander wants to meet you, I think you know where."
Leo groaned as he was forced to leave the main entrance point, he threw his bag unto the woman provoking her even further. As he walked away he asked himself why Cassandra would want to see him the moment he arrived and if so, was it going to be in the same training room they used that very day.
He tucked his hands in his pocket and strolled down, idly ignoring the glares of everyone on him. He used his heightened senses of hearing to eavesdrop on their conversations.
"Isn’t that the peerless loser, what’s he doing here?" Hearing this made Leo a bit stale, he had heard this same lackluster remark so many times he was sure it would have been reinvented into an anthem by not. He wished people would have more impressive ways to use his title. Perhaps that was another power behind the name, the ability to exist as a joke.
Now that Leo was steadily growing stronger and his goal was to get even more stronger he wanted nothing more than to be able to do that peacefully. He also wanted to fight other awakened and learn from them to build his own self. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
However there was one flaw to his goal, Leo was currently known as the peerless loser and as much as he hated the title he had to agree that its positives were actually much more beneficial to him. Yes, the name limited him in many irritating ways but it also offered secrecy and peace.
The one flaw it now harboured was the fact that he would not be able to interact and grow with other awakened unless he wanted to expose his strength to everyone. He had not had much time to think about it, but when he really thought about it-- if people knew he was growing stronger he knew they would feel cautious of him. Maybe even threatened.
Could he really be able to handle that pressure.
It was one thing being nobody and it was another being nobody who now became somebody. If only he could hide his strength and utilise it at the same time. But could true strength really be hidden. If only Leo had a way to live the life of the strong while also living as the peerless loser and evading trouble.
Cassandra Hearth was the prized genius of the military surge group, they idolised her because of her strength. And due to that very same strength people like Leo were forced to bow to her whims, that was one reason why everyone within the military division including Eunice now hated him more. They must have done many things to gain the attention of the strongest and now a nobody who was supposed to be the weakest quiescent-(dormant) superhuman had now caught her attention.
Leo could feel their bloodlust at him.
It caused him to stop and ask the question, ’Is it just me or am I feeling things a bit more now?’
Then his ear overheard something that made his face burn, not in embarrassment but irritation and anger.
"Yeah, I’m even hearing around the base that some people suspect they are dating somewhat."
’Curses! Dating? Cassy, hell no!’ He proceeded to leave the vicinity and walk deeper down the hall, he had to admit he had never thought of the prospect of him being acquainted to his childhood friend and rival since she was always at the top of the world and he was at the bottom.
Then by some crazy hand dealt by fate, Leo seemed to run into Bazzle-- the tall lean man from weeks ago who had stumbled unto Cassandra at his house and had abused her. The man looked even leaner, and seeing him his face shifted into something akin to disgust and fury.
As always Leo waved at him and smiled deeply, "Hey, Bazz how’s life treating ya?"
Bazzle’s eyes burned bright red as he screamed. "You bastard, how dare you--"
In that moment the door opened to reveal Cassandra standing there in the familiar skin tight battle suits that clung to her frame, the red lights beaming to life.
She looked down at him with cold eyes and said. "Is there a problem?"
Leo saw this as another opportunity to torment the frail man, "Yeah, Bazz here really needs to learn how to treat your esteemed guests."
"Is that true?" Cassandra boomed.
Bazzle trembled visibly like he had was standing knee dip in cold icy water, Leo was also visibly shaken as he noticed that she was angrier than usual.
’God, don’t tell me she wants to pass out her anger on me.’ He groaned inwardly, ’What am I, a stress reliever doll?’
Bazzle was still visibly shaken and somehow rendered unable to speak, he simply shook his head and said nothing more. He was dismissed almost immediately, Leo watched him run and trip over himself like a bumbling buffoon.
All this made Leo worry about him even more, "Poor guy, you really did a number on him."
Then he felt Cassandra’s strong grip on his neck as she pulled him into the room, "It won’t compare to what I’m about to do to you."
Leo watched the door shut behind him. "Aw Crap!"
