Old Mrs. Bai was holding onto Yan Jinyi’s hand throughout the journey, not taking her eyes off her for a second.

Yan Jinyi was her biological granddaughter indeed. It was no wonder that the more she  looked at her, the more she liked her.

The hall seemed to have been renovated as it looked different from the way it did when she came over during Leng Yuxi’s birthday.

“Jinyi, quickly take a seat. I don’t know what you like to eat so I asked the cooks to whip up a few local delicacies.”

Yan Jinyi’s attitude towards Old Mrs. Bai wasn’t too bad. Hearing this, she smiled at her and said, “It’s okay, I’ll eat almost anything.”

“That’s great.”

The crowd sat down while Old Master and Old Mrs. Bai began exchanging warm pleasantries with Huo Xishen. Bai Moliang and Leng Jing had no choice but to remain seated and watch them.

“Jinyi, I heard that the people of Yan family aren’t treating you well. How did you live when you were a child?”

Seeing the affectionate and curious gaze in Old Mrs. Bai’s eyes, Yan Jinyi got into the mood before she started to complain, “My father became a gambling addict and raked up a huge amount of debts. There were debtors showin up at our house everyday. My mom is actually nice to me but due to the situation at home, she began to neglect me.”

“Later on, my father started drinking because he was annoyed by the debtors. Grandma was nice to me and she would secretly give me some money for school fees.”

She remembered that her grandmother would always be smiling benevolently. She was one of the very few people of the Yan family who treated her well.

“Later on, Grandma passed away from an illness and my maternal grandparents also got into a conflict. Besides, due to the fact that the debtors kept haunting him, my parents decided to just take me to the city. Fortunately, my father got lucky and managed to get a job. Huo Xishen was the only one who was seated very calmly beside her. From time to time, he would help her to the food too.

Bai Moliang listened quietly. At the thought of Leng Yuxi living a carefree life while his biological sister lived in so much misery, he felt extremely heartbroken.

Sensing the hostile gaze in Bai Moliang’s eyes, Huo Xishen merely glanced at her coldly. “Don’t worry, Grandpa and Grandma, Jinyi is living well with the Huo family.”

Old Mrs. Bai nodded with satisfaction and said, “Good that she is. I really didn’t expect you to have ended up becoming our grandson-in-law after a series of twists and turns.”

Huo Xishen nodded and said, “Darling is worth it.”

After dinner, Old Mr. and Mrs. Bai pulled Yan Jinyi to the garden for a stroll in the garden.
