Chapter 356: 28 episodes Double Law_2
Kuboert gradually felt a bit nauseous, and breathing became difficult. The humid and hot climate here was too oppressive for him. Just as he was about to stand and stretch his limbs, hoping to relax quickly, Lynch beside him gripped his magic wand tightly, holding it horizontally in front of him.
"They’re here," Lynch said in a low voice.
Kuboert didn’t know how his mage friend could see through the pervasive fog, but the feeling of nausea grew more apparent. He tightly held Pate’s Sun Sacred Emblem, letting its sharp edges prick his palm, so he could focus his mind better. Priest Kuboert widened his eyes, imagining the scene Lynch saw.
It was only a short while before he no longer needed to imagine; the undead forces had appeared in his sight. The army of skeletons and ghouls seemed to materialize suddenly from the fog, quietly and orderly parting the white mist in front of them and advancing into the area of the Residual Star Swamp.
Kuboert squinted to see more clearly. The skeleton army was vast, quickly filling one side of the Residual Star Swamp. The sound of water splashing from his sides blurred the distinction of individual footsteps. The advancing undead army was like magma flowing down a volcano, silent and slow but unstoppable. The oppressive atmosphere began to bake Kuboert’s face, and the battle was about to commence.
"Priest, how do you feel?" Lynch’s Eye of Insight allowed him to see further than his companions, giving him a clearer grasp of the enemy’s numbers. "This is the feast I’ve prepared for you, can you handle it?"
Kuboert tapped his head with his left hand and then put on the elf-made helmet, which he didn’t always wear because it felt a bit small. He looked at Lynch, their eyes meeting, both displaying excitement. Kuboert said, "Pate has always been watching over me, and he surely must be saying now that following you was definitely the right choice."
Lynch pressed Kuboert’s shoulder, signaling him to hide in the woods for the moment and not to go out. Then Lynch moved alone toward the advancing undead army, his steps slightly faster than the skeletons but somewhat staggering over the uneven terrain—a surface very unsuitable for walking.
As Lynch approached the center of the Residual Star Swamp, he stopped, for his trap had begun to activate. The Holy Water accumulated from Erutalon started moving toward the Residual Star Swamp, and soon this area would be flooded.
Thus, Lynch had the confidence and courage to stand at the forefront of the undead advance. He even took a moment to tidy his Mage Robe. The skeletons marched mechanically, taking no action against the mage ahead of them until given an order. However, the ghouls had smelled the scent of a living being, fresh blood and flesh stirring their unrest. Their teeth and claws clattered, poised for attack.
"Such noise is too loud—it will awaken many things." Lynch loudly addressed the undead: "Of course, it won’t awaken the dead anymore. I’ve seen enough corpses here."
"Another human mage!" came a hoarse voice from behind the skeleton army: "Has the kingdom of elves been taken over by human mages?"
The skeletal figures stopped, opening a path. Fyyian, wearing the same black Mage Robe as Lynch once did, stepped to the front of the ranks.
"Who are you, human?" Fyyian said: "Clearly show your Mage Emblem and step aside! I don’t want to harm anyone from the Mage Association."
Lynch gazed at the disfigured elf before him (only identifiable by his pointed ears), searching his memory for any recollection of this Necromancer. Anyone donning a black robe like Fyyian’s indicated tutelage from one of the Seven Great Mages. Lynch’s mentor was the prophecy-specialized Great Mage, Caso, and none of the Seven specialized in Necromancy.
"Lynch, still an apprentice now," the young mage traced a gleaming emblem in the air with his fingertip: "Now, state your identity."
"Lynch? You are Lynch?" Fyyian chuckled twice: "I was just wondering, there are quite a few mages here. You’re in black robes as I am. Now, step aside, I don’t wish to kill a Great Mage’s apprentice."
"Do you think I would leave this place?" Lynch held his magic wand across his chest, the posture of their readiness to fight: "I didn’t come here easily."
