Chapter 21: Lex Clenulis

Ting!

The bell rang, signaling the end of class, allowing the students to stand up and leave.

Moving up the stairs, Azariah came to stand in front of the main cast, where Alyssa was busy talking to Anastasia and Rosalia.

He stood there in silence, waiting for her to get free.

However, as he was standing, he felt a gaze on him.

’Hmm?’

Looking up, his eyes met Yvan’s, who had his eyes set on him.

His facial expression almost made it seem as if he was uncomfortable—weirded out.

"What?" Azariah spoke out, surprising the black-haired boy with the sudden talk.

It drew the others’ attention as well, as they turned to Yvan.

The latter was unable to formulate a quick response.

"Nothing," he replied quickly, turning to leave.

’Genuinely though, what is this guy’s problem?’

Yes, they were kind of brothers in a sense.

But as a main character in the game, there was no plot or backstory between the two.

Azariah had always been portrayed as an NPC and had died as one as well. Even at his death, Yvan was unbothered by the news.

’I’ll find out soon enough.’

Turning to the front, he found that Alyssa had gotten free from her talk.

She was the first to speak between them.

"I’ve got a student council meeting today."

"Oh, alright. Should I come along?" he asked.

"No, I’m good," Alyssa instantly replied, turning.

Azariah said nothing, turning to leave as well.

However, he was surprised by her next question.

"What happened with the Regulation Committee?"

He didn’t expect her to take much interest. But then again, it was she who had stood up the first time as well.

"I got accepted."

For a moment, Alyssa remained silent before nodding.

"That’s good, congratulations."

"Uhm, thank you."

Bobbing her head once more, Alyssa left the scene.

’What a weirdo.’

He didn’t know why she chatted with him more than necessary today. But this wasn’t the first time she was acting weird.

He still needed to know why she stood up for him against Amelia the other day. Just like Melissa, she probably had a reason or an objective.

Regardless, he had no time to think about it for now.

’Okay, what do I do now?’

There were no Regulation Council meetings for today, as Melissa had given him a day off despite Darius’ words.

Just as he was about to head toward training, however, Azariah’s terminal buzzed.

Opening it, he saw a notification that made his face light up.

[Items delivered to your doorstep!]

Elated, he quickly left the academic block and headed back to his dorm.

***

Returning to his dorm, he found a huge carton in front of his doorstep.

A wide smile spread on his face as he took the carton inside and locked the door.

Opening it, he took out the materials.

Wolfsthorn, Mykebane, and many more common herbs.

Some chemicals, and then the most expensive resources — condensed mana stones and equipment.

The latter ones made up the majority of the cost he had paid for the items.

Condensed mana stones were stones that contained specific types of mana condensed into a solid form.

Along with the equipment, which was made of Cornium glass that could withstand mana reactions and energy expulsions, these two materials were essential for any mana experiments.

Additionally, there were other items for crushing and extracting the herbs, etc.

Disposing of the useless packaging, Azariah quickly took all the materials to the kitchen, where he put the flowers and herbs in the mortar and pestle.

Using the pestle, he quickly crushed them together, making a gooey purple paste.

Lighting up the mana flasks with the burners, he placed the mana stones in them before wiping his forehead.

’Here we go.’

***

[2 Hours Later]

Azariah heaved a sigh of relief as he looked at the finished experiment in a small flask.

A glowing purple liquid shone through the flask in the form of a potion.

It was, thankfully, a success.

Having never done such types of experiments before, Azariah heavily expected himself to fail.

Fortunately, he seemed to have done it well.

The potion ahead of him was called Lex Clenulis.

Initially discovered by Rosalia in the game, it was a generational discovery.

Using the concept from his previous world of using weakened versions of infections to clear out infections, Rosalia had done the same thing.

However, this was much riskier and required much more concentration. It wasn’t even confirmed if it would work.

Mana veins and the immunity system were much different from normal biological systems.

However, the main working of this potion was injecting the potent poison of Wolfsthorn right into your mana veins and nodes.

Since it was mixed with other herbs, it was quite a weakened version of the poison.

As Azariah had said before, there were large amounts of impurities in one’s body during the early ranks of being a Synapth.

The whole purpose of this poison was to clear out those impurities through its corrosive nature and then flush them out, leaving behind a clean mana body with stronger and refined veins.

’Here comes the hardest part.’

Grabbing the flask from the counter, he carefully drew all of it into an injection before channeling mana through his body.

As he did, the outlines of his mana veins started to show on his arm, guiding him on where to inject it.

He slowly injected it into his veins after taking a deep breath.

And immediately, he started to regret this plan.

It was as if lava was coursing through the insides of his body, destroying and burning everything.

His vision became blurry as he fell to the ground, veins bulging from his body.

Azariah felt as if his head was about to explode. No — it felt as if it had already been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times.

As his eyes fell on himself in the mirror, he saw purple veins bulging across his whole body.

Drops of dark blood fell from his eyes as he suddenly coughed, spilling blobs of more blood on the floor.

Unfortunately, the pain showed no signs of stopping, with him coughing more and more blood.

It felt as if someone was internally slicing his veins and heart with a hot knife.

’FUCK, KILL ME.’

Azariah clutched his hair, convulsing on the floor as he rolled left and right.

However, he did not scream.

Deep down, he didn’t succumb to the pain and held on. He bit down on his tongue so hard, he felt as if he had cut it.

Regardless, he made no noise.

Azariah felt like tearing his skin off and ripping his veins out.

But all he could do was bear through the pain and slowly wait for it to subside.

Unluckily for Azariah, it showed no signs of stopping for an hour until it finally began to fade.

Heaving a sigh of relief as the pain started to leave his body, he collapsed there on the floor.

"Urgh... Oooof..."

Azariah woke up to an intense stench, instantly covering his nose.

The wretched smell was so bad it made his insides churn.

Finding himself on the ground, he lifted himself up.

Suddenly, his eyes widened at how light his body felt.

’Damn...’

He had gone through the stage multiple times in the game, but it was different when feeling the changes himself.

He felt as if his body was much more energetic and light now, like a huge load had suddenly been taken off.

And as his eyes fell to the ground, he could see what the load was.

A whole pool of blood and dark black masses of impurities lay on the ground, surprising Azariah at how bad his body had been.

No wonder the stench was so bad.

He quickly cleaned the floor properly before hopping into the bathroom for a shower and changing his clothes.

Even when wearing them, he felt slight stretches on his arms and waist — as if he was wearing the clothes of someone smaller than him.

However, there was only one way to truly see all his body’s changes.

So he hopped in front of the mirror.

And...

’Damn, this is amazing.’
