Chapter 57: Lucid Dream

After finishing our meal with Setsuna, we parted ways. Setsuna said she had something to do before, while I made my way home. I believe she’ll be able to remove the bandage from her arm tomorrow.

"Meow." As I was walking down the street, I heard a meow and looked in the direction to see a black cat it seems to be the same one that sometimes shows up at school, the little kitten that follows Setsuna.

"Hello, Hexael." Setsuna has introduced me to him before, so I approach and give him a chin scratch. I love cats, so seeing such a gentle one is really nice.

"Are you hungry?" I ask, picking him up.

"Meow." His meow sounds like an affirmation, so I decide to take him home with me and give him something to eat. Normally, he runs off after a while, so I’ll need to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn’t disappear again.

I’m almost home now, and even though I don’t have any cat food, I have some things like chicken that I can give him. I also have some fish that I think he might like.

After walking with him for a bit, I arrive home excited that he hasn’t run off like he usually does. I open the door and he follows me in. I head to the kitchen and grab a can of tuna.

’I think I can give him this.’ I open the can, carefully placing the open container in a corner.

"Hexael, I’m going to sleep now, so behave, okay!" I tell the cat, who doesn’t seem too interested in the food. I’ll leave him here for today and open the door for him to leave tomorrow. I don’t think a little kitten will make too much of a mess in a single night.

After taking care of everything to get ready for bed, I go to my room, closing the door and jumping onto the bed. I grab my diary and start writing about my progress today and the fun conversations I had with Setsuna.

After a few minutes, I finish writing, hide the diary, and turn off the light to sleep.

I quickly lie down and drift off. I sleep peacefully, feeling a wonderful sense of calm.

"..."

"..."

I feel myself floating in the environment until I open my eyes, "waking up" in the school and seeing Hexael by my side.

’This is...’ I quickly realize this is a lucid dream. As a magical girl, my perception of the environment has increased. I know this isn’t real, perhaps because I’m aware that monsters attack the mind, so my sense of reality and fantasy has changed.

And thanks to this, I know I’m only dreaming. I start walking through the empty school, with Hexael following me.

"How strange, haha." I murmur, finding it funny that I’m dreaming about the school and Hexael.

There’s a legend at the school that says students who have lucid dreams about the school can see the future when guided by a "spiritual guide." And since I’m dreaming about the school, I guess the legend is "real."

"Well, I guess you’re my spiritual guide, Hexael," I say jokingly. The school’s legends are very entertaining things, of course it’s all just a joke there’s no way a dream about the school could reveal the future.

"Meow." Hexael meows as if he understands, pausing for a moment and waiting for me to follow. I start following as he walks through the school.

’Lucid dreams are so strange.’ I’ve had dreams like this before, but now as a magical girl, it all seems so real.

"..." Hexael leads me to our classroom, where I see Setsuna writing on the notebook. She’s the only person here.

"Very realistic." I say, approaching and looking at her. She’s exactly like this at school, 100% focused on the activities, almost like a robot. Normally, when she’s like this, her expression is cold, without the gentle smile she shows me.

In this way, she seems more like an untouchable angelic being, but also like a cold machine following a program.

"It’s empty, of course." Setsuna is "writing," but the notebook is blank, and the pen in her hand isn’t making any marks. After all, this is a lucid dream, and no matter how detailed, it can’t compare to the real world.

"Meow." Hexael meows, calling me, and I follow him. He takes me to the cafeteria, where I see Setsuna having lunch "with me." She no longer has that cold expression.

"..." I wave my hand in front of Setsuna’s face and in front of my "dream self," but neither of them reacts. However, they seem happy, without a care, as we eat in comfortable silence.

I think I prefer this Setsuna. She no longer has those mechanical movements and completely neutral expression. She has a small smile, and her movements are more "human" than when she’s alone or focused.

"Meow." Hexael meows, calling me again. I wonder when I’ll wake up from this dream. The two of us go to a hallway where I find me and Setsuna walking together.

Setsuna has a gentle smile while I talk excitedly with her about being a magical girl. We never talk like this at school, where there are cameras and people, but we do have conversations like this on the street or when we’re alone.

It’s very realistic, and it’s fun to see how Setsuna and I appear from another person’s perspective. So far, I’m really enjoying this dream it’s entertaining to see how Setsuna and I interact.

"Meow." Hexael meows again, and I follow him reflexively, wondering what other fun thing he’s going to show me.

"..." We walk silently to a more isolated area of the school, a place where normally no one goes and there are no cameras. I usually avoid places like this.

’Strange... I don’t have any memory of going to places like this with Setsuna...’ It’s a dream, but so far, all the scenes have been realistic moments between us or things that have actually happened. It’s a bit strange for the route to deviate like this.

"..." As soon as we arrive at the place, I cover my eyes with my hands, full of embarrassment at the absurd scene I’m witnessing.

Hexael has guided me to this more hidden area, and as soon as I turn the corner, I see "me" and Setsuna kissing. It leaves me completely red with embarrassment, but I open a gap between my fingers to watch the shameful scene.

"...My god." Hexael curls up at my feet, as if to prevent me from running away in embarrassment. I see Setsuna embracing my waist, actively kissing me and pressing me against the wall.

And the "me" I’m seeing is flushed, embarrassed, but accepting it all. The legs of the "me" receiving the kiss are trembling, as if she’s about to collapse at any moment.

With Hexael nestled at my feet, I watch the kiss that seems to last an eternity, until Setsuna finally separates, licking her lips with a seductive expression, as if the taste were a delicacy.

This makes the "me" even more embarrassed, while Setsuna completely separates and starts to leave, leaving the "me" there, full of shame, but with an expression that seems to have enjoyed it.

Soon, both of them become a haze, and I’m left alone while Hexael moves away from me. I remain frozen, reliving the scene.

"W-WHAT WAS THAT!" I scream in embarrassment. Why the hell am I dreaming about this? Okay, I had said that Setsuna fits exactly the type of guy I like, but I didn’t literally want to think about having something with her.

I turn to run away from this place, embarrassed by all of this, but as soon as I try to run, I hear a voice.

"Are you running away because?" I freeze in place and look back, seeing Hexael licking his fur for a moment and looking at me. The tone of voice I heard was strange, I’d say neutral, but somehow it seemed malicious.

’Am I going crazy?’ I try to turn around and leave, but he speaks to me again.

"Didn’t you like it?" Hexael asks.

"W-What do you m-mean?" I speak with embarrassment, just remembering that.

"The kiss, didn’t you like seeing it? Setsuna is really beautiful, isn’t she? And she’s kind to you, she also cooks well, she takes good care of herself and others, she takes care of her own home responsibly." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"She’s humble, she’s cute, she doesn’t see the immense value she has." Hexael starts citing as if he knows exactly what I like. Of course, since it’s a dream, it makes sense for him to know, but even so, this is being too direct.

"I-I don’t know w-what you’re t-talking about." I say, stuttering with embarrassment.

"Really? You don’t know? Is it because she’s a girl? It’s like a standard, you like boys because you’re a girl, so Setsuna automatically can’t be someone you like romantically because she’s also a girl, but I wonder... why?"

"If you love her, does gender matter? Look at Setsuna, she has few feelings, but you can draw out those few feelings. I don’t think it would be difficult to conquer Setsuna."

My vision is blurred by a haze, and suddenly I’m being held by the waist against the wall, while I see Setsuna in front of me with a gentle smile.

She approaches to kiss me slowly, which makes me blush deep red. Everything seems to freeze while the embarrassment hits me and my legs tremble.

I see her approaching to kiss me, I can’t back away, the embarrassment keeping me stuck in place as I just stand there to accept it.

But suddenly I wake up, sweating and with my heart racing, while I feel a slight weight on my stomach and look to see Hexael on top of my abdomen, looking at me innocently.

"A d-dream... of c-course it was j-just a dream." I stutter with embarrassment as Hexael jumps off my bed and meows at the window, as if asking to go out. As soon as I get up and open the window, he jumps out.

I go to the bathroom to wash my face, brush my teeth, and take a shower, but as soon as I enter the bathroom, I see how red my face is with embarrassment. I put my hands on my lips.

"..." I imagine the scene, it was so close, she almost kissed me. I swallow hard, embarrassed by this strange lucid dream.

Then I remember the school legend. Lucid dreams related to the school show your future, but that should just be a joke... right?

"I-I’ll forget this, it’s j-just because I talked too much at lunch with Setsuna." It’s obvious that I can’t simply want to have something with Setsuna. We’re both girls, and I like men.

It was just a strange dream, I just need to ignore it as nothing important. Setsuna and I are just good friends.

"...I-It was nothing m-more... nothing m-more..." I say to myself as I turn on the water to get ready for school and forget about this. There’s no way this stupid legend is true.
