Chapter 66: You Remain Perfect

Today is the school attack day, but since the attack is in the afternoon, I had to think carefully about how to keep Ayane away. The choice was to go to the farthest psychological clinic that still has a connection with the school.

This way I can use my ID and claim that I want to have a long consultation with them, the records will go to the school, and Ayane and I will have an excuse for the absence.

Ayane approved, as this way she wouldn’t miss anything or receive an absence, so she came to my house to spend some time until the supposed consultation.

It was a bit strange, we’re friends, but not to the point of being comfortable entering and staying at each other’s houses, so Ayane just sat on my couch and was restless.

An uncomfortable silence lasted the entire time we remained, my house is simple and not much, even with the new furniture, so we didn’t have much to talk about the house.

Since Ayane was the one who helped buy the furniture and I just organized it, and due to the discomfort, I couldn’t invite her to see the rest of the house.

And when it was around 10 in the morning, the two of us went to the place where I’ll have my consultation. I scheduled an appointment by phone, and since the place belongs to the school and I’m a "genius," they only accepted.

Of course, Ayane doesn’t know that I scheduled it recently, she probably thinks it was scheduled before, so as soon as we arrived at the place, I thanked Ayane for coming with me and said it would take a while.

So she could take the opportunity to use her phone, I believe that by 3 in the afternoon, the attack will have already occurred, and she will be safe, so the two of us just stayed in the waiting room until noon, when I was called.

Inside the room, the psychologist looked at my ID, collected information, and then we started our consultation.

I told some things, repeated others, and said the reason for coming here was to see if my touch problem had worsened since my last visit to the school psychologist.

It took a long time, which was exactly what I wanted, and looking at the phone, the entire consultation lasted several hours until it was almost 5 in the afternoon, which allows me to end this here.

’I hope Ayane hasn’t been too bored.’ It took a long time, but at least with this, she wasn’t at school during the attack.

’I managed to protect her, and nothing seems to have happened.’ Maybe I’m lucky, I feel a momentary relief in having kept her safe.

"I think we can finish here, I need to go home," I say, getting up from the psychologist’s chair.

"Yes..." He says just a simple "yes" while jotting down some things.

"Oh, by the way, what’s your name?" I ask, realizing that he had never introduced himself.

"I’ve already introduced myself," he says, just looking at the clipboard.

"...No? You didn’t say your name," I tell him, and he looks at me and moves his shirt, showing a badge. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"This is my name," he says only that, but I notice the badge is empty.

"Weird guy," I murmur, going to the door. If he doesn’t want to tell his name, I don’t care, I don’t plan to come back here anyway.

’This unpleasant feeling...’ I stop with my hand on the doorknob and take steps back.

"Could you tell me your name in words?" I ask, putting a hand on my back and making my gun appear.

"..."

"Is there a problem, Mr. Psychologist? I’m just asking the name of the man who helped me," My hand grips the gun tightly, this man causes me an uncomfortable discomfort that I only noticed now.

And it reminds me of something, mental attacks, more precisely that monster that made me have a nightmare, this type of monster obviously has different abilities.

From what I understood from other magical girls, the mental control of a monster that affects the senses can be partially broken by noticing ’wrong points,’ monsters that affect the senses always have a flaw in their ability.

"Tell me your name," I speak in an authoritative tone, I can’t believe I took so long to realize that I never knew his name, not even when I scheduled the appointment was the name informed.

At the reception, the name was also not informed, and even on the intercom when they called me to the consultation room, the psychologist’s name was not informed.

"I-I’ve already told you," he says nervously as I prepare to kill this thing pretending to be human.

"...Tsk, I recommend not shooting me yet," he stops acting, but doesn’t change his posture.

"Finally showing what you really are," I say, pointing my gun at him, who already knows about it.

"You’re quite perceptive, magical girl," he says, dropping the notes on the table, now I see that they are not notes, but a drawing of a body without many details.

However, the drawing shows cutting lines, basically the same as those seen in a butcher shop for cutting meat.

’This thing was planning to cut me to pieces.’ This was really very difficult to notice, I almost let the danger pass.

’It seems that fate really wants to screw me up for having made Ayane miss school.’ I look around, noticing more and more flaws in the environment that show I’m being affected by some magic that affects the senses.

"Haa... I don’t think I’m your problem right now," he says, sighing and crossing his legs.

"..."

"Cold, yes, you are undoubtedly someone very cold, but I’m being honest, Miss Magical Girl, do you know the black devil? That fish that attracts prey with a light on its antenna head? I’m basically that," the monster says.

"..."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"I’m just trying to save my life, I can’t defeat you, I’m just the prey, as soon as you leave, I’ll run away from here," he speaks honestly and calmly.

’Prey...’

"!!!" I quickly turn to run out, and I hear the sound of glass breaking, looking back again.

’Cowardly worm.’ He jumped out the window, but he doesn’t matter, the problem is that if he’s the prey that attracts prey, then the real monster is out there.

’Ayane is in danger.’ As soon as I reach the door, I open it quickly, activating my magical girl uniform, but the scene I see leaves me completely paralyzed.

"..." Blood on the walls and floor forming a trail, my heart tightens as I follow the trail, turning the corner carefully and cautiously.

The trail of blood on the floor and walls ends at a door, I walk slowly to the door where the blood guides me and kick it open while pointing the gun.

What I see shocks me and makes my stomach churn, I feel like I’m going to go crazy seeing this scene that seems to have come straight out of my worst nightmares.

I see Ayane’s decapitated head placed on a table, while I see a strange monster resembling a human, but without a head, chewing on Ayane’s leg.

The monster has a large mouth on its belly and holds an ax while eating the meat, I hear the sound of bones breaking as the monster chews, ignoring my presence.

"A-Ayane..." I approach with heavy steps, it seems the whole world is crushing me as I reach out for the severed head on the table.

The monster looks at me, or rather, the eyes on its belly follow my movements, but it doesn’t do anything, it just watches me pick up Ayane’s head while kneeling down with it in my arms.

My tears fall as I finally realize how foolish I was, Hexael made it clear, he made it ridiculously obvious, I knew fate would try to screw me over.

However, what I didn’t take into account was what I really see as having value, the fact is that I have no value for myself, Ayane is everything that has value in the whole world for me.

So obviously fate would target what is most valuable to me as punishment for me doing what I shouldn’t.

After all, for me, fate focusing on me wouldn’t be a punishment because I have no value in my own perception, a punishment aims to cause damage in some way, whether psychological or physical, so fate focused on Ayane to cause me pain.

’M-My fault... it’s my fault.’ My tears drip on the severed head as my dress gets dirty with the blood that drips.

The monster finishes swallowing Ayane’s leg and just watches me for a moment, as if finding my silent despair amusing.

"It seems that incompetent failed to hold you back for a little longer," the monster speaks with a strange feminine voice, which I recognize as a mixture of Ayane’s voice with some kind of error that makes it more grave and out of tune.

This vile worm not only took her from me, but also desecrated her body by stealing her voice.

The worst part is knowing it’s my fault, Ayane’s fate changed from 10 minutes of suffering to being killed, and I doubt she was killed slowly.

The blood from the head is still fresh and warm, in addition to the head indicating that she did not die long ago, but the blood on the table is already quite dry, indicating the difference in the cut, at least 2 to 3 hours apart.

"..." I turn her head, looking into her lifeless eyes, eyes without a spark, indicating the lack of life, it’s maddening to see her like this and know that it was my stupid error in judgment that caused this.

"Wow, what a bizarre look you have, is this really the look a magical girl should have?" The monster mocks.

"She’s beautiful, isn’t she?" I say, ignoring his voice, the monster is confused by the out-of-context statement.

"Even stained with blood, her face remains serene and perfect, even without a glow, her eyes still maintain that gentle aspect, though stained with fear," I begin to speak in a calm and cold voice.

"Even without her body, she still maintains the same beauty as always, it’s even amazing to see that her blood is red like any human’s, how can a girl so pure be so similar to a human?"

"She is so angelic that I wouldn’t be surprised if they said her blood is golden like pure gold," I caress her hair with care and affection.

"Her hair is still as perfect as I can remember, soft and perfectly groomed," I hold a strand of her hair and smell it, a mix of blood and lilies, I know she likes this flower shampoo.

"Her scent is still the same that I remember so perfectly, it’s pleasant and calming," The monster takes a step back, seeing how my tears go from simple tears to a viscous black liquid that runs down my face and drips onto my dress.

"Even dead, she is still perfect, like a pure angel that this filthy world does not deserve, even without her body, there is no other girl as beautiful, perfect and complete as her," I speak sweetly.

"Are you crazy? Have you completely lost your mind?" The monster speaks upon seeing my strange interaction and speech.

"Crazy? Maybe I’m a little, is it strange that I’m keeping calm?" My heart beats fast, very fast, it seems like it’s going to jump out of my chest.

"Thank you and sorry, Ayane, my stupidity made you suffer again," I give a tight hug to the severed head, not caring about the blood that stains my body.

"But don’t worry, Ayane, I can fix my mistake, I just need to try again," I murmur with a strange, too-big smile, the black tears also make the smile even more disconnected as I look at the culprit.
