Magus Bloodlines.-Chapter 61: The Bloodbath Begins.
Chapter 61 - The Bloodbath Begins.
Gavin was focusing all his energy and mental power to feeling the connection between all the bodies he was attempting to reanimate with Necromancy. This was the first time he attempted any of the necromancy spells that Veronica had memorized into her digital memory. The strain of the spells felt like it was going to tear him apart. Blood started leaking from his nose due to the strain.
Erza let out a fearful gasp as she noticed the trail of blood that fell down his face. Gavin didn't say anything as he wiped angrily at it with the back of his hand. "I'm fine," he said softly to her as he noticed the extremely worried expression on her face.
She said nothing as the arena continued shaking from the intense power that Gavin was calling. This wasn't just simply mana exploding out of control. This was something far greater in magnitude.
One thing he never told the others. Through the months of training, he had unlocked new capabilities from Veronica. With his increase in strength since he arrived at the academy and his increase in basic magical knowledge and understanding, Veronica was able to unlock level two of her programming.
When Koray had gifted Veronica to Gavin, he said that certain functions of her programing and abilities would be locked until Gavin reached certain thresholds of strength to handle them. Right now, Gavin was pulling out the holiest of hail mary moves. At level two, Veronica had access to a great many new skills and abilities that Gavin found useful. But the most impressive was the fact that once a month she was able to force activation of the Overdrive skill for up to one hour. The drawback was he would be nearly comatose for a week after using this skill. But for the one single hour, he had nearly limitless mana thanks to Veronica. He didn't fully understand the specifics of it yet but he was willing to take that risk to end this bloodshed.
"Alpha Overdrive, activated," Veronica said in Gavin's mind. Gavin growled out as he felt the powerful skill take effect. Unbelievable power surged through his blood. His muscles bulged from the strain as he physically grew in size to be compatible with the new sense of power this skill was granting him. Erza's eyes widened in shock as she witnessed Gavin's physical changes. His body suddenly grew tall and muscular as his magical power exploded out from him in violent red waves of energy. The force was so strong it was pushing all of them back to the wall, farthest away from the entrance.
It was like the energy itself was protecting them and pushing them away from the line of fire. Jackson cursed and struggled against it with his own magic, trying to reach his friend and alpha. Nothing worked. Even Ericks brute strength as a fellow alpha was unable to break the hold the chaotic swirls of energy had on them. Erza just stood there, quietly stunned into submission, her hand reflexively resting over her stomach where their unborn child was growing. Gavin was pushing himself so far, just to protect them all. What would be the cost of this, she wondered. How far would be go to protect them? What will happen to Gavin when whatever skill he was using ended?
Terrifying screams filled the arena as the souls finally merged with all the dead bodies on the ground. All in all, between the students, staff, and enemy forces there were several hundred bodies on the ground. As if commanded by a single, cohesive thought through a hive mind, all the formerly dead bodies stood from the ground and remained in place momentarily.
"Everyone, may I gather your attention," Gavin's voice called out, magically amplified thanks to Vernoica's interference so everyone was able to hear him. The entire Grand arena went silence as the booming voice filled their ears. "I have a few things I wish to say before the hunt begins." Gavin continued, a vicious grin on his face, he was growing mad with the bloodlust of the upcoming fight.
"To the members of the True Lords army, I welcome you. Yes, I'm aware of who you fools are." Gavin said, his voice cold, calculating. Erza covered her mouth with her hand as she watched the man she loved speak. "You made a serious miscalculation in coming to this academy and starting this war. So many lives have been forever altered by the horror and travesty committed here today. Listen to my words and know your death warrant has been signed and decreed. Run, hide, fight or lay down your arms. It matters not. I will find you. My army will find you. You have attacked my territory, and as the last clan leader of the Lykos Pack, I will hunt all you down and bathe in your entrails. The real fight, begins now," Gavin said as he cut off the magic to the spell he was using.
Erza looked at him, a mix of horror and strange pride a the depths he was willing to go. Her peaceful, loving boy was turning into a cold, ruthless leader for the sake of his loved ones. His words resonated across the magical connection to his pack as they all felt the hunger, the desire for bloodshed, slaughter and revenge. But the magic that Gavin was emitting was not permitting them to leave the wall they were pushed against. Erick cursed in frustration at how easily he was being treated when he himself was an alpha shifter species.
Gavin turned, his blood red eyes looking into Erza's amber and red tinged ones. "Stay here, stay safe," he whispered to her as he gathered his mana into his hand, a bright white fireball formed, the flames licking the air above as he harnessed and increased the potency of the spell. He threw it against the metal barriers resulting in a massive explosion, this time coming from the inside of the infirmary. His mana shield was protecting the others inside as he blew through all the walls the staff had summoned.
He was going to personally ensure this battle ended. As he strode into the hallway, his undead army was already going to work. They grabbed up fallen weapons, some even were capable of using a limited amount of magic. They struck down the enemy forces, some of them from behind, catching them by surprise. All of the undead were now fully, and irrefutably under his complete control thanks to the necromancy spells. He could feel the amount of mana that this spell would normally take to maintain control over this many undead summonses at the same time. If it wasn't for his Alpha Overdrive skill, he wouldn't have a hope in hells chance of doing this much at once at his current level.
Gavin grinned as he strode effortlessly through the carnage. Some of the undead were placing themselves between the students and staff, and the enemy forces. They literally formed a wall of meat, blood and bone between the weak and the enemy trying to kill them all. Most of the force that was in front of the infirmary door was removed thanks to his army as he walked out. His heart was racing painfully through his chest as he walked down the hallway. The drain was getting more noticeable as the skill persisted. He was such a fool for activating the Alpha Overdrive, but he had his family. No, his pack to protect. For that reason alone, he would dance with death.
So long as Erza and the others were safe, he would pay any price. He turned the corner as a young girl nearly bumped into him in surprise. She let out a surprised squeak as she ran into his hard, fur covered chest.
Kayla let out a feminine squeak as she ran into a wall of muscle and fur. She glanced up and felt a moment of utter fear and horror grip her heart. She stumbled backwards, her hand gripping her chest as she looked at the utter monster of a were-wolf that towered over her. She couldn't think, couldn't focus. All she could do was picture trying to escape and flea before this beast.
"Kayla right?" Gavin asked, his deep rumbling voice sent a shiver down Kayla's spine. He recognized the girl the instant she bumped into him.
She seemed to almost snap out of her stupor as she heard him speak her name. "Holy shit, Gavin?" she asked incredulously. That mangy mutt that battled her brother and barely managed to force a win, transformed into this powerful beast?
Gavin offered her a charming grin, his canines reflecting the light of the hallway. "Yup that's me. The wolf you want to beat down, deciding to finally end this battle and save everyone's life." Gavin said with a sarcastic laugh as he looked at her. He hiked his thumb, over his shoulder towards the room where the others were. "If you're looking for your brother, he's down that hallway inside the infirmary. He's unhurt for the most part," Gavin said as he turned around and threw out another powerful fire blast towards some enemies that decided to charge in his direction, magical blades in their hands.
The resulting explosion filled the hallway with smoke and dust as the power collided against them. Their screams of pain and horror were quickly silenced as they fell, unmoving onto the ground.
Kayla audibly gulped as she witnessed the destruction. "Um, thanks I guess," Kayla said. She didn't really know how to respond to what she witnessed. She merely nodded her head in gratitude and ran down the hallway, eager to reunite with her brother.
Gavin's undead army continued moving through the hallways. Their forces split up between protecting the students and faculty of the academy and slaughtering the enemy forces. Gavin began coughing, the force of it causing him to lean against the wall of the hallway. It lasted only mere moments, but it felt like a lifetime as his vision flickered and blurred momentarily. His body was beyond weakened from everything over the last few hours. He knew the Alpha Overdrive skill was supposed to last for a full hour, but he doubted his body would be handle the deadly strain from the use.
He wiped his hand across his mouth as the coughing fit subsided. He glanced down to see the red stain of his blood on the back of his clawed hand. Fine, so his body wouldn't last an hour before giving out. He would have to end this before then.
He sent out the following command to all of his undead army. "Slaughter them all, leave none of the enemy alive." With that final command he started walking towards the grand arena hall itself. Meanwhile, his undead soldiers would begin the massacre in earnest. He had a angry grimace on his face as he forced his tired, weakened body to move through the hallways. The screams of the dead and dying filled his ears as he focused on his goal. Find the enemy commanders and slaughter them.
