Major League System-Chapter 987: Heavenly Massage (1)
The 3rd game of the ALCS was being hosted in Houston at Daikin Park. Here the next 3 games were scheduled to be played, though the series could potentially end in 2 games since the Ligers were up 2 to nothing.
Later that day, Rohan, Daichi and Ken arrived for a light practice and team meeting. The mood within the locker was relaxed, not like one would expect with an important game in the post season.
"Alright guys, we're on enemy turf for this next stretch of games. This first game away is our chance to set the tone from the beginning. We need to show them that no matter where we play, we're the better team." Coach Williams stated, his tone serious.
"There's not much else that I need to say about the Arrows that we haven't covered already, so I won't bother. They're going to come swinging out of the gates, so we'll need to weather the storm from the beginning. Take your time in the batters box and wear them down."
Mark paced back and forth slowly, delivering his pep talk with confidence. It could clearly be seen how experienced the older man was, since his talk touched on all the critical points of the match.
It was one thing analyzing the opponents, but another thing entirely when it came to handling morale. Mark Williams knew how to do both effectively, which was a big reason why the Ligers had come so far this season.
The atmosphere in the room turned hot as his words washed over the team, firing them up.
"That's the kind of look I want to see from you all." Mark said, wearing a lopsided grin. He gazed over his team, a look of pride in his eyes. "We've come so far this season, but if we don't put in the effort now, it might all be for nothing… Just 2 more wins and we reach the World Series."
Seeing as how his players were hanging off his every word, Mark stood proudly at the front of the room. "Rodriguez, you'll be starting pitcher tonight. I want you and Daichi to control the game from the start. I don't care if anyone gets on base, as long as we don't give up any early runs."
"Yes Coach."
Edward Rodriguez stood up and shouted out, showing his enthusiasm.
"Good. There won't be any major changes to the line up, Ken will be our Designated Hitter as usual, but I still want you all ready if I need to call your name." He added.
"Yes Coach." The team called out in unison.
Mark smiled in satisfaction, "Alright, the game isn't for a couple of hours. Make sure you're ready for then."
Just like that, Mark put an end to the meeting and left with the other coaching staff, leaving the players in the room to themselves.
Ken let out a stretch, wincing slightly at his sore muscles. He was a bit stiff thanks to the unfamiliar hotel bed.
"Are you sore?" Daichi asked from beside him.
"It's just a little niggle, nothing to be worried about." Ken replied dismissively.
"I'm going to get a massage, why don't you join me?"
"You know a place?"
Daichi blinked a few times, "Have you never had a massage from the trainers? They're here to help us stay in top shape…"
"Oh…" Ken felt a little embarrassed. Generally with his fatigue management skill, he was able to avoid a lot of soreness throughout the long season. He had yet to need any maintenance by the training staff after so long.
"I guess I'll come along then."
"You guys go ahead, I'll meet up with you later." Rohan said, excusing himself.
They walked to another room and caught some of the trainers waiting nearby.
"Lee, you got some free time?" Daichi asked a wide-shouldered man. The guy had a beard that reached the middle of his chest. It was black and spotted with gray, despite the guy looking to be only in his late twenties.
"I've always got time for you mate." Lee replied, his accent rather unfamiliar to Ken.
"Ken, the name's Lee. I've seen you around but we've never been introduced." Lee said, holding out his large hand for a handshake.
The man talked a little fast, but thankfully Ken could somewhat understand his intentions. He took the offered hand and felt a tight vice grip upon his hand.
"That's a nice firm handshake ya got there mate." Lee said with a toothy grin, "I guess it makes sense, you're a bloody pitcher after all."
"R—Right. Nice to meet you Lee." Ken replied, feeling a little awkward.
"Well? What do ya need this time? I might look a little rough, but I've got the soft hands of an Angel. Just tell me where you're hurting and I'll make it better." He said, rubbing his hands together.
The sight was a little intimidating, but Daichi didn't seem concerned at all.
"Ken says he's got some soreness in his back, and just the usual for me."
Lee beamed, "Righto, just take your top off and lie down over there so I can work my magic."
Ken felt the phrasing was a little off, but he still did as he was told. Upon removing his shirt, Lee let out a whistle of appreciation, causing Ken to shiver unconsciously.
He tried to ignore the uncomfortable feeling and laid down upon the bench. He turned and saw that Lee was placing gloved upon his hands and had a bottle of oil close by.
Seeing that Ken was staring at him, Lee grinned, "Just sit tight mate, my hands might seem big and clumsy, but they know what they're doing." He said with a wink.
Ken's gaze moved to Daichi, only to see a small grin pulling at the corner of his lips.
'Wait… did he do this on purpose?' Ken thought, alarm bells ringing.
However, as soon as he felt Lee's hands upon his back, his whole body seemingly melted to the touch. His muscles quickly began to sing out in relief as they were kneaded with finesse.
