Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1332: Borrowing Food ( 2 )
When he heard Song Li's words, Li Chenmo replied, "Brother-in-law, as a family, we should help each other. Not to mention that your children and mine have a good relationship—as their uncle, it's only right for me to care about them."
When they heard his words, the worries in Song Li and Zhao Ya's hearts finally lessened. No matter how much Li Chenmo pampered his wife, he was still the head of the family.
Without his approval, how could they dare to borrow food from Lu Jueyu? If they didn't act carefully, they might implicate their cousin, and that would be bad.
Now that Li Chenmo had already said those words, there was no reason to refuse.
Swallowing his pride, Song Li said, "Brother-in-law, in that case, we won't be polite with you. My family indeed has no food left at home. If you can lend us some, we would be very grateful. When we find grains in the mountain, we will return it to you."
Finally hearing these words, Li Chenmo smiled and said, "Brother-in-law, I found a wheat and corn field in the mountains. If you and your sons help me harvest it, we will split the harvest evenly. For now, you can take some grains back first."
Hearing his words, Song Li and his family readily agreed.
Before leaving, Li Chenmo brought them to the backyard and opened the underground cellar. He pointed at it and said, "This is where my family stores our grains. Brother-in-law, you can go down and take what you need. I will go check on my wife first."
"Okay," Song Li nodded.
After Li Chenmo left the backyard, Song Li and his sons entered the cellar. The moment they saw the vast space filled with several huge jars, they were stunned.
The grains were stored in large earthen jars and covered with wooden lids. Judging by the size, each jar could hold around 500 kilograms of grain. When they opened the lid, they saw wheat, corn, sorghum, and rice inside.
As a farmer, Song Li could see that the quality of these grains was far above those given on distribution day. It seemed that his cousin's family had indeed found a good harvest in the mountains.
These discoveries encouraged him and his sons, giving them more hope to survive the winter until next year's distribution day.
After checking the grains, Song Li thought for a moment and said, "Ah Wen, just take two kilograms of sorghum. We will grind it into flour, and it will be enough to last us for a few days. When we get more food from the mountains, we will return it to your uncle."
Song Wen nodded and said, "Yes, Father."
While Song Li and his sons were packing some grains, Li Chenmo found his wife in the herb shed. As he entered the room, he asked, "Wife, what are you doing here?"
Hearing her husband's voice, Lu Jueyu turned and replied, "Xiao Min fell into the water and had a high fever before. My mother sent some nutritious food and ginseng powder before."
"But when I saw his pale face and thin frame today, I became worried that he might develop a hidden illness. So, I want to give him some herbs to nourish his body."
Li Chenmo nodded and walked over. When he saw the herbs his wife was packing, he asked, "Wife, what herbs are you packing?"
"This is a cat's claw plant. It helps boost immunity, has antimicrobial properties, protects cells, and acts as an antioxidant. Besides this, I also packed some ginkgo biloba, ashwagandha, and moringa," Lu Jueyu explained while sorting the dried herbs.
Raising his eyebrows, Li Chenmo asked, "Wife, did the mountains have these herbs?"
Lu Jueyu nodded and said, "Husband, there are a lot of plants, trees, and vegetation that shouldn't be able to grow in our area, yet for some unknown reason, they thrive in the mountains."
Leaning closer to him, she whispered, "Husband, our daughter even found an 800-year-old ginseng at the mountain foothills. The oldest ginseng I took out from my space is only 500 years old. I suspect that someone else might have a space similar to mine."

The moment Li Chenmo heard this, his smile disappeared, and his face turned serious.
He looked at his wife and said, "Wife, since we don't know what's going on, you should refrain from taking out more seeds or seedlings from your space. Even if we want to help the villagers, we can't be careless and put ourselves in danger."
Lu Jueyu nodded and said, "Husband, don't worry. I won't scatter any seeds or seedlings in the mountains anymore until we figure out what's happening."
Li Chenmo reached out to hug his wife and said, "Good."
The two of them packed some dried herbs, dried mushrooms, eggs, fresh vegetables, and cured meat for their nephews. When they came out of the backyard with a bamboo basket, they saw Song Li and his family waiting in the front yard.
Seeing the small sack held by Song Wen, Li Chenmo asked, "Brother-in-law, why are you taking so little? The children are still growing. That amount will only last for two or three days at most."
"Brother-in-law, this is more than enough. After we grind the sorghum into flour, my wife can make flatbread or pancakes with it," Song Li said.
Hearing this, Li Chenmo shook his head and said, "This won't do. If the children eat less and are malnourished, they won't grow tall. My family's Ah Li is already so tall at 13 years old because he eats a lot."
As soon as he finished speaking, he went to the underground cellar and took out a sack of rice, a sack of white flour, and a sack of corn.
When he came back, he placed them with the other items his wife had prepared and said, "These are a gift from my wife and me for our nephews. You don't have to return them, Brother-in-law."
