Chapter 150: Dark heart

When Ashton entered Stefan’s room, he found him sleeping, all snuggled up in a blanket, almost as dry as a corpse.

He was relieved that the lord was still alive, but he couldn’t stop wondering how Stefan had been stabbed.

He sat next to the bed, a faint smile on his face. "Your sister is perfectly fine except for a broken heart." He laughed.

"Cyrus simply had to think so murderously, and now his innocent parrot is paying for everything, but do not worry, Cyrus always brags about how strong she is, so she will be fine." He added, placing his hand on Stefan’s brow.

"Do not die now," he laughed. "I will not let you die. It is not difficult for me to steal that antidote." He smiled and whispered soothingly.

"Thank you." Stefan spoke in hushed tones. His voice was raspy and forced.

"Anything for you." As he stroked Stefan’s brow, Ashton whispered.

...

A week passed, and life in the castle returned to normal, despite Cyrus’s dark reign.

Ashton was successful in stealing an antidote from Cyrus and giving it to Stefan, who was immediately healed.

Meanwhile, Katherine, Mirabella, and Isabella had grown close and began to spend the majority of their time in the city, while Sage remained in the room for the entire week, sleeping, eating, bathing, and rereading the books and scrolls she had in the room.

There had been no sign of Cyrus all week, which was unusual for Sage. Every night at midnight, she would wake up and search every corner of the room for Cyrus, and if she couldn’t find him, she would go back to bed without bothering to sleep until the next night.

She caressed her hands on her cheeks then pursed her lips.

The only thing she was relieved about was that she had not returned to the land of the sea of blood. She wasn’t prepared to go back there.

The current day was cold, as it had been since Cyrus entered his dark state. Sage sat in her chair, staring at her reflection, while Ava took her time brushing her silky red hair.

Her emerald eyes twinkled with sadness, and she could almost see a void in those eyes. Sage had never expected to feel so empty with Cyrus, and she was certain that if they got the chance to argue again, she would be ecstatic.

"Ava?" She called.

"Yes my queen?" Ava asked.

"What has been going on in the castle?" Sage asked curiously.

"Well, his majesty left for the border five days ago." Ava unexpectedly reported.

"What?!" Sage exclaimed in surprise, stood up, and faced Ava, who appeared nervous. "How come you didn’t tell me this?" Sage demanded angrily, and Ava lowered her head.

"I apologize, my queen; you never asked and didn’t seem to care about his majesty or the castle’s goings-on." Ava apologizes hesitantly.

"Hmm mm." Sage frowned as she sat back in her chair.

"He left without seeing me? What a coward." She snarled.

"He went to see the chief warriors. You have probably heard that General Samuel betrayed his majesty." Ava was informed.

Sage sighed as she realized what was going on. She had heard that general Samuel was the one who ordered the attack on her and Cyrus while they were on their way to empire city.

Cyrus had most likely arrived at the border to select a new general and most likely execute the remaining traitors.

"How far away is the border?" Sage inquired, eliciting a gasp from Ava.

"How far away is it?" Sage asked once more and stood up.

"I think you should meet Arthur to take you there, my queen," Ava suggested, and Sage nodded.

"I must reclaim my husband. It is stupid of me to lock myself in a room and wait for him to appear and embrace me while I was aware he was in his dark state." Sage said curtly, then blew air into her mouth.

Ava smiled excitedly, dashed to the closet, and pulled out a thick furry green coat, which she handed to Sage. "The art of seduction can work," Ava laughed.

"It always works." Sage smiled proudly and put on the coat.

Ava escorted Sage to Stefan’s room, clearly pleased that Sage was feeling better than before.

"Please stay here," Sage sighed.

Ava nodded as Sage opened the door, walked in, and closed it behind her.

Sage walked carefully into the luxurious room, her eyes scanning every corner, but there was no sign of her brother.

"Sage?" Stefan called out in surprise as he walked out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist and another towel drying his damp blonde hair.

Sage grinned. "Stefan," she called out nervously.

He had worked hard to keep her from seeing Cyrus’s body that day, she remembered. He genuinely cared about her.

"Are you okay?" Stefan inquired, a smile on his face.

"No." Sage reciprocated the smile.

"I haven’t left the room since, uh, the incident." Stefan approached her, patting her on the head. "You should be fine, my strong sister."

"Do you believe Cyrus is dead?" Sage inquired slowly.

"Ashton told me that Cyrus killed his normal state." Stefan spoke slowly to her.

"I am going to meet with him. You have probably heard that he went to the border." Sage informed him, his eyes widening.

"Sage. You have the opportunity..."

"Do not advise me to abandon him." Sage barked at him.

"All right, I just want you to be happy." Stefan looked her in the eyes and smiled.

Their emerald eyes glinted in unison as they stared at each other, but Sage noticed something strange in those eyes.

"Can I.." She paused before slamming her palm against his brow, blasting a full force of fire into his head.

Stefan yelled out in agony as his eyes transformed into a purple reptile-like form.

Sage gasped in surprise and closed her eyes. "Dark heart!" Then she took her hand off his brow and slammed it against his chest, where his heart was, blasting another round of raging fire force into his chest.

"You truly have a dark heart!" She exclaimed in surprise and pushed him away, staring at him as he tried to hold his breath.

"I... Do."
