Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 165: Old love memories 1
Even a pin drop could be heard in the carriage due to the deafening silence.
She hadn’t looked at Darren since she slapped him, despite the fact that she had burned his cheek. She didn’t care, and she didn’t really want to care.
She and Darren’s relationship was complicated, and everything he said was true except for the statement he made to her.
"Have I ever harmed you? I have never hurt you! But he has!"
She felt compelled to stab him as his voice echoed in her head.
Sage, no matter how angry she was, always showed mercy to those she thought deserved it, which she was beginning to regret.
Cyrus had indeed hurt her numerous times, and he was currently torturing her for being away from her, but Darren was someone she cherished, and when he defied her, she had mercy on him...
Her eyes were filled with tears. "You said Lianna got you a special birthday beer for me." Sage whimpered, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Darren looked at her, his hand still covering his affected cheek, and sighed, his eyes welling up with tears.

*Three years ago*
Sage and Darren were sitting in Sage’s room, in front of the fire place, with their faces close to each other, breathing heavily out of sync.
Darren cupped her face, gently pressed his lips against hers, and kissed her slowly, as if instructing her.
But, in all honesty, he was.
Sage was completely innocent, having never kissed or made love to anyone.
Darren was a childhood friend she had admired for a long time until she mustered the courage to confess to him, which led to their nine-month relationship at the time. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Sage blushed slightly as he pulled away from the kiss. "Is there going to be a gift for my birthday tomorrow?" Sage enquired slowly.
Darren smiled and kissed her soft lips again before pulling away. "Of course." He smiled.
"I informed Father that I did not wish to attend the party. I simply want to be with you and Katherine." With a happy smile, she told him.
"Katherine?" Darren inquired, sounding and appearing dissatisfied. Sage picked up on something he couldn’t hide.
"Yes... Katherine," she said, her brow furrowed, and he nodded slowly.
"I am madly in love with you, Sage, madly in love with you, and I want us to get married." He admitted it.
Sage grinned. "There is no need to rush anything; I am right there with you." She told him confidently and kissed him on the lips.
He returned her kiss with zeal and moved his hands to the straps of her gown. She laughed and drew away when she felt him.
"Calm down, Darren; I have told you numerous times that I am not ready yet." He nodded slowly as she told him.
"Please accept my apologies. You are simply too sweet, my love." He laughed, and she laughed.
"I know," he said as he cupped her face, "but you have to understand and listen to me." She told him while kissing his cheek.
"Yes." Sage could see the disappointment in Darren’s eyes as he faked a smile.
.
Sage was seated in the dining room the next day, eating her breakfast while lost in her thoughts, on a bright snowy day.
Julius, who was seated across from her, looked at her with interest, while Lianna and Dexter, who were seated three chairs away from Sage, were preoccupied with their meals.
"Are you all right, Sage?" Julius asked calmly, jolting Sage out of her reverie.
Her eyes widened as she met Julius’s, she smiled nervously, and stood up. "As you can see, I am perfectly fine." She said with a forced smile.
"I am going to meet Katherine and Darren right now." She added as she dashed out of the dining room.
"Hmm, what a strange girl." Lianna muttered, her gaze fixed on her food.
"She is rapidly maturing. Remember, it is her birthday?" Dexter inquired of Lianna and Julius, who appeared to have forgotten.
Dexter scoffed, while Julius nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on the direction Sage had vanished.
Sage ran out of the castle, not caring that Julius had forgotten it was her birthday, and down the stairs as she saw Katherine and Darren approaching the castle.
It wasn’t the first time he had forgotten about her birthday, and he wasn’t sure it would be the last.
"Darren! Katherine!" She yelled and dashed towards them.
When they saw her, they immediately stopped walking.
"Sage, do not fall!" Katherine yelled at Sage, who was charging at them like an arrow.
Darren smiled as he prepared to catch her, anticipating that she would fall.
Sage abruptly came to a halt as she approached them, causing Katherine to sigh in relief that she didn’t fall to the ground.
"Congratulations on your birthday! Have you had your breakfast?" Katherine both wished and inquired.
"Thank you very much! And, yes I did!" Sage laughed and jumped excitedly on Darren, who immediately caught her, wrapping his arms around her and falling backwards, luckily landing on a pile of snow.
Katherine rolled her eyes at them again and again. "Stand up, you two; we are going on patrol today for any sign of dragons." She moaned.
Sage smiled at Darren, who smiled back. "Happy birthday, my love; did you have any exciting events?" He was perplexed as to why she appeared overly excited.
"Today, we are going to have a campfire." She laughed as she said this.
"No snowman creation today?" Katherine inquired. "Plus, we are not allowed to drink." Katherine sighed.
"However, you continue to drink when I give you." Katherine smiled and shook her head as Sage teased her.
"You also get drunk easily." Katherine made a joke.
Darren was lost in his lust and desire for Sage as the girls teased each other. He swallowed, his gaze following the way her lips parted and the cold wind blew her flaming red hair.
Sage scoffed, turning her gaze to Darren, who blinked quickly to control himself before laughing as she stepped away from him and stood up.
"It will be a lot of fun." He said this, and she nodded.
After failing to find any sign of the dragons, all of the mages assigned to patrol were told to return home later that day.
Katherine gasped as the three walked down the street, as if she had forgotten something.
"What is the matter?" Sage inquired, concerned.
"Mother instructed me to go get some dry sticks for the fire at home. I will see you two around the campfire!" She bolted as quickly as she could.
Sage sighed and took Darren’s hand in her own. "Come with me to the mansion." She told him with a bright smile, and he nodded.
They arrived at the mansion and went straight to Sage’s room, where she shut the door, tied her hair into a ponytail, and walked towards the fire place, where she squatted, her gaze fixed on the fire.
Darren stood, smiling at her and taking slow steps towards her.
Sage stood up, faced him, and held his hands when he noticed him. "Have you been lost in your thoughts recently? Are you thinking about yesterday?" She inquired, blushing.
"No, no, I said I’d wait until you were ready." She smiled as he told her.
"Darren, you can not hide your disappointment from me." She laughed and tapped his shoulder.
"I am going to take a bath, and you will find liquor bottles under my bed." She added as she walked into the bathroom.
Darren swallowed, walked towards the bed, bent down, and removed three bottles of liquor, placing them on the table next to the fire place before falling asleep on the bed.
Lianna appeared in the room holding a bottle of beer, and Darren opened his eyes and gasped to see Lianna.
"Hello there, sweetie." He looked stunned as she laughed.
