Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 171: Three souls
Sage blinked twice as Cyrus locked his gaze on her with those black threatening demon eyes that sent chills up her spine. She tried to comprehend what had just occurred, but she couldn’t. Her heart clenched as her mind began to conjure up impossible ideas about Cyrus, but with him, nothing was impossible.
"C.."
"Do not say anything." He cut her off with a deep growl and turned to look around again. As his eyes returned to their blue slit form, she stared at him in awe. "We are being watched." He added in hushed tones.
"How come you said that?" Sage asked, ignoring his warning about being watched.
"What?" Cyrus inquired, returning his usual cold stare to her.
"How come you told me not to dream about staying with you forever?" She asked again, this time with a slight frown.
Cyrus’ eyebrows raised as if he didn’t understand what Sage was saying, and Sage immediately realized that something was wrong with Cyrus. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen those eyes; she needed to figure out what was going on, but first she needed to know his response.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, pushed herself up, and leaned in close, her fiery eyes glowing dimly in a hypnotic way, and she felt Cyrus’ grip tighten around her.
"Can’t I stay with you forever?" She inquired once more, this time in hushed tones.
"Oh, if only." Sage scoffed in disbelief at his blunt response.
"You are making me act like the lovesick one!" Screaming, she grabbed his collar.
As her frown deepened, she noticed the side of his lips twitch and chewed her lower lips. "What exactly do you mean by if only?" She was serious when she asked.
"Because I am going to kill you, arrogant parrot," Cyrus said flatly.
"You will not." Sage told him with a scoff and relaxed in his arms, her head on his chest. "You will not..." She trailed off and closed her eyes as she felt weaker and weaker until could barely open her eyes.
Cyrus began to walk faster than usual after noticing she was becoming weaker. He knew Sage would not leave the land of the sea of blood without those mages, so he needed to find them.
"You are keeping things from me." She muttered, her voice sleepy.
"Did you see my eyes?" Cyrus asked, slightly disturbed, and Sage managed to open her eyes to see lines of worry on his brow.
"The shadow dragons, Katherine... your shattered soul... what you really want to do with my life force and why you are fighting your feelings for me... and the truth about your three souls..." Sage finished her words barely above a whisper, and she immediately passed out from exhaustion.
Cyrus, who knew she’d passed out, held her tightly, but the disturbed expression on his face couldn’t be hidden. He took a deep breath, as if to calm down the incoming negative emotions, and his expression instantly changed to unfazed.
"Your inquisitiveness will cause you to die faster than I want you to die, arrogant parrot." He mumbled, closed his eyes, and let out a frustrated sigh. "However, I do not want you to die."
His eternally frozen heart was only beating for one person, and that person was her. It wasn’t something that he, his dark state had predicted, but which his normal state had predicted.
When Cyrus, River, Ashton, and Regan were about to leave Leimpia, he unexpectedly reverted to his normal state. They were all stunned, except Cyrus, who ignored them and vanished from their sight, reappearing in his room to find Sage crying and staring in the mirror. The way she cried, coughed, the pain in her voice as she asked, "Why?" Cyrus couldn’t take it anymore... He couldn’t help but blame himself, but he had to calm himself down and console her because he knew his soul was shattered and that due to Snowflake’s unexpected illness, he would only appear once in a while. Because his soul was shattered, every transition from his dark state to his normal state and from his normal state to his dark state caused excruciating pain in his heart.
Cyrus had no idea he would become addicted to Sage in the same way his normal state was. He left her in the care of his mother, but he never left the castle and watched and heard everything that happened between Sage, Arthur, Darren, and Freya through Snowflake’s eyes. He even used his Snowflake connection to watch Sage’s memories of Darren, and the jealousy that arose in him was dangerous. He was glad he hadn’t seen the halfling yet.
True, he kept many secrets from her, but it was primarily to keep her safe so that she would die without regret or worry about unfinished business, but it was mainly to keep her safe.
Her question, delivered in a clear and light tone, rang in his ears. "Can’t I just stay with you forever?"
But he couldn’t remember what he said to her, but he knew why he couldn’t, so he pretended he didn’t understand what she was saying.
"She will find out soon enough." In his head, he heard his voice say. That was his normal state.
"She is, after all, intelligent." With a smirk, Cyrus said.
"If she finds out, she will perish instantly. Remember that if I switch in this state, you can’t control me." His voice said in his head, but it sounded threatening and emotionless.
"You are not going to hurt her." Cyrus and his normal state screamed angrily at the third voice.
"Get out of my head, you two!" Cyrus growled through his teeth, his blue slit eyes blazed with rage before switching to silver reptile-like eyes that looked at Sage softly before switching to their black demon form, glaring at her murderously.
"You know, we could just leave her here," His emotionless threatening voice erupted from his throat.
"You are going to leave her fire core to the statkus mages in here? You are a moron." Cyrus scoffed in his head, and his eyes returned to their blue slit form, his cold gaze on Sage warming. "By the way, even if she didn’t have her fire core, I would never do that because I care about her."
Snarls were heard behind him as he finished speaking, and he turned to see an army of blood-covered skeletons limping and staggering towards him. Skeletons with carnivorous bloodied teeth, implying that they were likely haunting living beings in the land of the sea of blood.
"Cursed mages." Cyrus stated unequivocally.
These were cursed mages who were killed, and cursed mages who died. When they arrived at the land of the sea of blood, they transformed into bloodthirsty, flesh-eating skeletons, but because no living being could enter, they fell asleep... until now.
"Fire mage... Will resurrect us." One of them said in a raspy disgusted voice, pointing at Sage, but as Cyrus glared at them murderously, they all stopped walking.
"An ice dragon..." One of the hissed appeared with bloodied teeth.
Cyrus’ eyes narrowed at the skeleton who had called him, a nonchalant smile appeared on his lips, and his eyes became fierce and sharp. The skeleton charged at him immediately, and Cyrus tightened his grip on his Sage at the same time, a bright sapphire glow appeared in front of him and blasted the skeleton, which was instantly destroyed.
The skeletons all shrieked at the same time, their shrieks even more piercing than the statkus mages, but Cyrus was unfazed. They were all rushing towards him to attack, and Cyrus was getting frustrated because all he wanted to do was find the living mages and not waste his time fighting undead ones. A brighter sapphire glow appeared in front of him, stretching itself, and slashed the army of skeletons at once, destroying them all with a faint sparkle of sapphire glows.
"Let’s get this over with." Cyrus expressed his displeasure with a deep growl that was immediately visible on his face.
Apart from the death stench in the air, his blue slit eyes began to glow and he chewed his lower lip as he began to sense various magical elements in the air. He vanished from where he stood, Sage in his hands, and appeared in front of the vast immobile sea of blood.
He felt a tug on his coat and turned to see a small, vibrant blonde mage. She appeared to be about seven years old, her big blue eyes twinkling with tears, and she appeared to have been wandering for hours.
"I am looking for my mother." The girl whimperingly said to Cyrus, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Do not cry; tears will not bring you face to face with your mother." Cyrus spoke calmly and rolled his eyes, his annoyance at the little girl’s tears visible.
She had obviously gotten herself lost due to her curiosity.
"You do not belong here, Ice Dragon." Behind him, a raspy male voice whispered.
