Chapter 38: Her way

Davian laughed a small laugh.

"Why are you wearing a mask?" he asked the man.

"Who are you, huh? Why don’t you want to show your face to me?" he added.

"I will, soon. The moment you are about to take your last breath, I’ll show you the person who is sending you out of this world," the man responded and kicked Davian at the stomach. He groaned at the pain.

"What torture should I give to you today? Hmm," the man hummed in thought.

"I have lots of ideas, which should I do first? Maybe I should pluck your eyes out..." he trails off and laughs sardonically when he saw Davian’s reaction to it.

"I’m just messing with you. It will be fun though, but I did mention that I want you to see the person sending you out of this world as you breathe your last, so," the man interjected.

The man then beckoned on one of his men who brought something to him.

"Do you see this?" he asked Davian.

"Do you know what this is?" it was a horsewhip.

"It’s what is used to teach worthless animals like yourself lessons," the man added.

"Don’t. Stop...Don’t do it... what did I even do to you? Tell me... just tell me!" Davian said. The man walked over and stood behind Davian. He leaned over and whispered.

"Is that you begging?" the man laughed. Davian glared with clenched teeth.

"I’m not begging you. Tell me what I did to you?! You have no right to abduct me and torture me." he demanded.

"You took something that doesn’t belong to you. Something that belongs to me." the man answered.

"What...something, what?" Davian inquired.

"Someone, actually...so who?" the man corrected and initiated the first whip.

"Argh!" Davian groaned as it landed at his back. It was so painful. He felt two more and it was as if his flesh was being slashed by a sword. He could feel it did, even though he still had his shirt on.

"You are really so slow witted not to know who I am already. But you have more stamina than I thought, I thought you would be so weak by now, so weak to even beg for my mercy," the man said and he continued to lash the whip so furiously at Davian.

"Argh..." Davian’s voice echoed in the room.

"You won’t get away with this...I promise you..." Davian continued.

The man stopped. "I’m already getting away with it. But oh well, continue to act tough. I will continue to torture you till you are too weak to even beg for death," he said.

"Handle him a little. I want that smug pretty face of his disfigured by punches." the man finally stopped the whippings and ordered his men instead, to beat Davian up.

Davian could feel kicks and punches from all directions. His eyes were becoming too heavy for him to keep open, it opened and closed as he took glances of the place.

It was a dark room. Only few rechargeable energy bulbs gave the room some light, he could tell it was night from the windows.

His body was so exhausted from the excessive and continuous pain. He gave up to the darkness soon.

Silvia was at a board meeting. The head of the financial team was rounding up with his presentation of the financial statistics of the month of Reyes’ Corp.

All through the meeting, Silvia paid no attention. Her mind was drifted to just thoughts of Davian and how she was going to find him.

Towards the end of the meeting, she received a call from detective John Parker. She excused herself from the meeting and went out of the meeting room to receive the call.

"Hello," she said.

{Ms. Reyes, we’ve got updates about the case. It’s concerning the evidence we found on the scene}

"Say no more. I’ll be on my way, we’ll continue when I get to the police station," she ended the call.

She beckoned on Emily and told her to end the meeting because she had to go somewhere.

Silvia got into her car and her driver drove her straight to the station. She saw John there, who was already waiting to receive her. They moved to his office to discuss the issue with his partner present.

"The DNA test for the blood on the syringe came out and it did match that of your fiancée’s. The fingerprints test were carried out and fingerprint traces were found," John started going straight to business.

"The guy isn’t smart. Cases like this, a professional will wear hand gloves and he’s even more careless for leaving the syringe on the scene," his partner stated.

"Unfortunately for him but luckily for us. We analyzed the results with our database and discovered the fingerprints matched that of a Henry Cavill. Though obviously the kidnap must have not been a one man’s job." John continued.

"Henry Cavill is an ex con and went to jail for being associated with one of the syndicates in Asteria. Turns out the guy didn’t learn from his sentence in jail," his partner added and the man’s picture was showed to Silvia through their computer.

"Are you in any way associated with this man?" John asked and she shook her head.

"Then he must be working for someone who’s in charge of pulling the strings," he speculated.

"Is there any update on the search for this man or my fiancée?" she asked.

"Nothing yet, Ms. Reyes. Asteria is a big city," his partner answered this time.

Silvia bit her lips in frustration.

"Okay. Don’t hesitate to call me if you do," she managed to say.

"And don’t hesitate to tell us anything that can help us with the case. We already interrogated your fiancée’s family and friends and any other person’s connected to him.

From their statements, Mr. Randell didn’t have any serious enemies that could have done this," John informed.

She just nodded and walked away, guess she has to do this her way.

...

Silvia walked into the VIP section of the casino. She looked so sexy yet badass on a red gown which hugged her curves and was cut up to her thigh. Her hair was in a ponytail, her lips and nails neatly painted with red.

Four armed bodyguards trailed behind her as her eyes skimmed through the VIP section of the casino in search of the casino’s owner.

She spotted him at a large table as he gambled to his contentment, a huge cigarette stick at his mouth as girls rubbed on him, one sitting on his laps.

She began to walk up to him;

"Luis Rodriguez," she announced her presence as she got closer to him.

"Well look who we have here? If it isn’t Silvia Reyes the great, huh? the heiress who cleared her father’s mess and restored some last dignity to her family’s name," Luis started.

"I’m flattered." Silvia responded sarcastically.

"What brings you here? Finally realized that you and your family can’t do without your underlying with the syndicates. Don’t tell me you are here to take back your place-"

Silvia got on the table abruptly scattering their game as her heels almost bored holes on the table. She pointed a dagger at the man’s throat, his cigarette had already fallen off as the girls also ran away.

His men aimed a gun at her, some at her men who also pointed their guns ready to shoot.

"I almost forgot how much you loved to chit chat," she said.

"There’s no harm in it. What’s with all the agitation? Why disrespect and dishonor my house? Is anything wrong with all that I said? Your family were supposed to be the new leaders of the mafia families and groups in Asteria but you gave that up.

It’s still amazes me how you got your greedy father to agree. Are you here to finally take your place as queen? I can help you... just say the words and we’ll bring the Lees down." the man elaborated and Silvia scoffed.

"You talk as if you’re so capable when you’re just a worthless scumbag. My family and I have nothing to do with the syndicates or the mafias anymore. The only reason I came here is for this..." Silvia trailed off as she pressed the dagger at his throat.

"Hey, hey...take it easy," Luis pleaded, he could feel the dagger give him a light cut. Silvia showed him a picture of the so-called Henry Cavill.

"Do you know this man?" she asked. His eyes lingered on the picture. Then gazed back at Silvia.

"Yes, he was one of my men." he answered.

She knew it, she knew she had seen this face before. This man used to work for Luis Rodriguez.

"That traitor just ditched me when my casino got raided by the police, I was able to escape but I lost fortunes. It was the reason I fell from grace in the syndicate world and this fool who was my right hand man just left me in my broken stage." he explained.

That means, Luis Rodriguez wasn’t responsible for Davian’s kidnap, although she and her family didn’t have any problem with him but when she saw the picture of his right hand man, she just speculated that.

"Then do you know where I can find this man," she inquired.

"No I don’t. When I was still looking for him, to teach him a lesson for ever ditching me, I heard he was taken to jail and started working for another person after he was released from jail. That man is just a stupid weed who pops up only where is favorable for him," Luis spat in disgust.

"Do you know who he’s working with then?" she asked further. Whoever that person was, must be responsible for Davian’s kidnap.

"Gabriel Yul."

"?!"
