Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 104: Besides Us Four, There’s Another Person
In the corridor, hurried footsteps echoed.
Ethan Sterling rushed over with Sean Hale in big strides.
After receiving Nathan Foster’s call, Ethan was worried about a conflict between Seraphina Thorne and Adrian Chamberlain, so he rushed to Zenith Group immediately.
"President Sterling!"
Upon seeing him, the onlookers hurriedly stepped aside, making a path for Ethan Sterling.
Seeing Seraphina holding a knife against Adrian Chamberlain, Ethan was also taken aback.
"Seraphina!" He rushed over, stopping a step away from the two, "Calm down, listen to me!"
Hearing his voice, Seraphina felt a pang in her nose.
"My brother he..."
"I know, I promise you, there are definitely other ways." Ethan cautiously held her shoulder with his right hand, "Seraphina, be good... listen to your husband, put the knife down!"
Seraphina glanced at him sideways and finally withdrew her right hand holding the knife.
Ethan stepped forward, grabbed her right hand holding the knife, and pulled Seraphina into his arms, casting a sidelong glance at Adrian Chamberlain.
"Why don’t you get lost?!"
Adrian Chamberlain turned around and, supported by his assistant, hurriedly fled.
"Alright." Sean Hale glanced at everyone, "Disperse and get back to your work."
The crowd quickly scattered. Ethan snatched the knife from Seraphina’s hand, retracted the blade, handed it to Sean Hale, and led her into the elevator.
Seraphina looked up, her eyes red as she stared at Ethan.
"Why... why is it like this, did I do something wrong?"
To help her brother, she worked so hard, even gambling on herself, finally seeing some hope.
Everything was developing in a good direction, who would have thought it would all reset overnight.
Even her brother’s last hope of appeal vanished.
How could Seraphina not be heartbroken?
"No, it’s not your fault." Ethan hugged her shoulder heartbreakingly, "You didn’t do anything wrong. Your husband promises you, there are definitely other ways, we will find a way."
Seraphina lowered her face, not speaking.
For her brother Caleb Thorne’s case, she not only consulted Ivy Langley about legal knowledge but also personally read several related books.
Once the client gives up the appeal, the court will completely close the case.
At such a time, what other way could there be?
The elevator reached the parking lot. Seraphina mechanically stepped out of the elevator.
When Ethan placed her in the passenger seat, she seemed entirely soulless.
Internally pained, Ethan couldn’t think of how to comfort her at that moment.
He could only first send her back to The Thorne Estate, knowing she wasn’t in the mood to eat. After getting her to the upstairs bedroom, he personally made a cup of hot chocolate milk and handed it to her.
Ethan brought her hand over, placing the milk in her hand.
"Be good, drink some milk, alright?"
"I can’t drink." Seraphina shook her head gently, "I just feel... so useless, I can’t do anything right."
"I know you’re very frustrated and upset right now. When my mom passed away, I felt the same, feeling useless, unable to help with anything, even thinking that if it weren’t for me, maybe she wouldn’t have gotten sick or died."
Ethan put down the milk cup, dragged a chair to sit opposite Seraphina.
"At that time, I even wanted to leave with my mom. Do you know why I survived?"
Seraphina looked up, "Why?"
"Because someone told me if I gave up, it would truly be letting my mom down. Later, when I sorted through my mom’s belongings, I found her diary. She wrote that I was the best gift heaven gave her, and she never regretted having me."
Seraphina pursed her lips, "Your mom must have loved you very much."
"Yes, if I had given up then, I would never have known that. So..." Ethan held her hand, "You must promise me too, don’t give up easily. Even if your brother gives up the appeal, we can still continue to find evidence. If the evidence is sufficient, we can request a retrial in court, or even file a prosecution to the relevant authorities."
"Really?" Seraphina was somewhat uncertain.
"If we find enough evidence to prove there are issues with the case, we can. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Ivy Langley..." Ethan took out his phone from his pocket, "I can call her right now!"
"No need." Seraphina held his hand, "I believe you."
Ethan took the milk and handed it to her.
"Then obediently drink the milk and rest for a while. I’ll head out to see what’s actually going on at the prison."
Seraphina nodded and brought the milk to her lips, drinking it in big gulps.
Ethan settled her on the bed. She then reached out, grabbing his sleeve.
"But haven’t you had dinner yet?"
"Arranging a meal is a must when asking someone to do something familiar; your husband won’t go hungry." Ethan helped tidy her long hair, "Get some good sleep. I believe there will be results soon."
"Your injury isn’t healed, don’t drink alcohol."
"Got it."
Bending down, he kissed her forehead, then Ethan stood up, turned off the main light and left the villa.
Returning to the car, he took out his phone and dialed Sean Hale’s number.
"How are things on your side?"
"I’m at the prison now."
"Alright, I’m heading over now."
Ethan started the car, driving out of the city, heading to Galecrest First Prison where Caleb Thorne was held.
Sean Hale was already waiting in the parking lot. Seeing Ethan’s car, he came over quickly and handed a letter to Ethan.
"This is the letter Caleb received, and the return address is fake."
The envelope was just an ordinary envelope, sent from the city.
The sender’s address was obviously made up, as such an address didn’t exist in Galecrest.
Ethan opened the envelope and took out the letter inside.
Inside was only a sheet of A4 paper, and in the middle was a photocopy of his and Seraphina’s marriage certificate.
Below it, there was a line of printed Chinese—
"Mr. Caleb Thorne, do you really wish for your sister to sell herself like this to save you?"
"Bastards!"
Ethan squeezed the printed paper, his fingers clutching it tightly, crumpling the paper.
No wonder Caleb wanted to forfeit the appeal.
As a brother who loved his sister, how could he bear to see Seraphina sacrifice herself for him?
"On your way here, I thought carefully. The people who could get this photocopy are you, Mrs. Sterling, me, and our company’s legal advisor Attorney Clayton. But... it’s impossible for any of us four to do such a thing, right?" Sean Hale frowned, looking puzzled, "Could it really be that bastard Adrian Chamberlain? But where did he get this photocopy from?"
Ethan furrowed his brows, pondering for a moment.
"Besides us four, there’s one more person."
