Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 43: Enough Strength Tonight to Make You Ache
Driven by the instinct to survive, Seraphina Thorne raised her arms to protect her head, curling her body into a ball, hoping to preserve her life.
"Seraphina!"
Amidst the chaotic noise, someone seemed to be calling her name.
Before the wooden club came down, someone rushed over to shield her.
The pain she imagined didn’t happen. Seraphina opened her eyes again and saw a familiar face amidst the flying wood splinters.
Ethan Sterling?!
"Get up!"
Ethan grabbed her arm and shouted loudly.
In the midst of chaos, Seraphina finally regained a bit of clarity, came back to her senses, and struggled to get up from the ground.
"President Sterling..." Sean Hale parked the car by the roadside and shouted, "Get in the car quickly!"
Grabbing Seraphina’s arm, Ethan rushed towards the car with the door opened by Sean.
"Catch them!"
"Don’t let those scumbags run away!"
"Give us back our hard-earned money..."
...
The crowd shouted frantically, swarming towards the two like a tidal wave.
Dragging Seraphina along, Ethan charged to the car, turned around, and shielded Seraphina with his body, kicking away a fellow who had rushed to her side.
He quickly shoved her into the backseat and got in after her.
"Drive!"
Sean stepped on the gas, and Ethan slammed the car door shut. The car roared onto the road.
Seraphina, in a panic, turned her face and saw the mad crowd outside the car window.
Bottles of mineral water, spray cans, wooden sticks, bricks, stones... whistling through the air, slamming against the car windows and body with loud thuds.
"Don’t look," Ethan pulled her into his arms, pressing her head down with his hand, "it’s all over... it’s all over!"
Something fell, wet and warm, dripping onto the side of Seraphina’s face.
Seraphina lifted her face and finally noticed the right side of Ethan’s forehead, where blood was seeping from a graze.
Panicked, she grabbed her bag, pulled out some tissues, and pressed them against his wound.
With a pale face, she turned towards Sean and shouted.
"Quick... to the hospital!"
"It’s nothing, just a scratch!" Ethan comforted her with a tight-lipped smile, his gaze scanning her with concern, "Are you okay?"
Seraphina shook her head.
Although she had fallen, luckily, her autumn clothes were thick enough to offer some protection.
Except for some scraped skin on her knees and palms, there was no serious injury.
The car drove into the hospital, and with the help of Sean, Seraphina hurried Ethan into the emergency center.
The medical staff took Ethan into the treatment room, and Ethan pulled Seraphina ahead, lifting her hand.
"Doctor, she’s injured too."
The doctor looked at the surface scratches on Seraphina’s hand with a speechless expression.
"If you’d come any later, these would’ve healed on their own!"
Ethan wanted to say more, but Seraphina had already pushed him onto a chair.
"Doctor, please take care of him!"
Ethan’s forehead wound wasn’t severe, just a minor scratch.
The surgeon treated Ethan’s forehead wound and finished bandaging it.
Looking at his dusty appearance, the surgeon asked with some concern.
"Is there anywhere else you’re hurt?"
"No." Ethan stood up to leave.
"What do you mean no?" Sean quickly stopped him, "I clearly saw that strike hit..."
"What nonsense are you talking!" Ethan glared at him, "When did I get hit?"
Worried about him, Sean became anxious, "I clearly..."
Seeing Seraphina beside them, Sean realized, and his voice got caught in his throat.
"Alright!" The surgeon waved, "Take off your clothes so I can take a look."
"I’m really fine!" Ethan put his hand on Seraphina’s shoulder, "Seraphina, let’s go, shall we?"
"Go where?" Seraphina grabbed his coat and ripped open his buttons, "Doctor, could you please do a full body checkup for him?"
Seraphina personally helped Ethan undo his buttons, removing his coat and suit.
Watching her unbutton his shirt, Ethan smiled, lifting his face.
"Honey, you don’t have to undress me completely!"
Ignoring him, Seraphina bent over to unbutton the remaining two buttons, lifting the shirt off his shoulders.
The shirt slipped down, revealing the man’s lean waist and back.
On the upper left side of his lower back was a large bruise, noticeably swollen compared to the other side.
The doctor carefully examined him, finding no signs of a fracture but still recommending a CT scan for reassurance.
Whether because of the thick autumn clothing or Ethan’s luck... The scan showed no bone abnormalities, and his internal organs were fine, just muscle contusions and swelling.
The doctor stared at the scan on the computer for a moment before exhaling in relief.
"You’re lucky you didn’t hurt any bones or organs." He handed the prescription to Seraphina, still cautioning, "Apply ice first, after 24 hours switch to heat packs to reduce swelling. If anything feels off, come back for a checkup."
Sean took the clothes and helped Ethan put them on. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Seeing Seraphina’s brows furrowed, Ethan smirked mischievously.
"See? I told you I was fine. You all just make a fuss over nothing!"
Seraphina looked up, glaring at him, her eyes red.
"If you keep your mouth shut, no one will mistake you for a mute!"
Seraphina could easily guess that he took that hit for her, to protect her.
For the first time in her life, she experienced something like this.
Thinking back to the earlier scene still left her a bit shaken.
If that blow had hit his kidney or missed and hit his spine...
She would have ruined his life!
How could he still joke around so nonchalantly?
Taking the prescription, Seraphina carefully asked about the medication and ice application details before leaving the examination room.
Following her out, Ethan watched as Seraphina walked away.
Holding his sore waist, he exhaled and wore a cold expression.
"Go check out what’s up with that news!"
Due to the acquisition of Zenith, the company was naturally concerned about related news.
When Seraphina’s news made waves, Ethan quickly got wind of it.
Thus, he was able to rush to the scene and rescue Seraphina in time.
If he had been a moment late in that situation, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Seraphina was not involved with Zenith, and after the incident, her brother Caleb worked hard to keep her out of the spotlight.
Now, with this sudden news, it was clear to Ethan that it was a deliberate scheme.
Sean agreed, handing over the car keys as he left.
Rubbing his aching waist with his right hand, Ethan watched as Seraphina returned with the prescriptions.
"Don’t worry!" Ethan wrapped his arm around her shoulders, whispering in her ear, "This little injury won’t affect hubby’s functions!"
Seraphina, both embarrassed and angry, flung his arm away and turned to leave.
"Ouch—so painful, hurt this badly, yet no one to help me!"
Behind her, Ethan feigned pitifulness.
Seraphina paused, glaring at him, but eventually returned and reached out to support his arm.
Ethan turned his face, stealing a kiss on her cheek.
"Gotcha, didn’t I?"
Childish!
Seraphina was caught between tears and laughter, playfully pinching his waist as she helped him out of the emergency center.
Thanks to Ethan’s teasing, her initial lingering fear quietly melted away.
When they returned to The Paramount Gardens, Ms. Sawyer had already prepared dinner after returning from her hometown.
Seeing the bandage on Ethan’s forehead, Ms. Sawyer hurried over, "Oh dear, how did Mr. Sterling get injured?"
"Just bumped it accidentally." Ethan waved it off casually, "Once dinner’s ready, you can head back."
Despite herself, Seraphina felt uneasy and called the attendant first to check.
The news had only exposed her orchestra involvement, without mentioning Theodore Thorne, so nothing seemed unusual at the hospital.
Feeling relieved, Seraphina instructed the attendant to take good care of her father and gathered ice packs, towels, and other items.
"Come on, take off your clothes, let me apply the ice."
"What’s the rush?" Ethan pulled her to the dining table, "Let your husband replenish some energy first, to have strength to pamper you tonight."
