Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 66: If You’re Not in a Hurry, I Don’t Mind Doing a Little More
"Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it looks!"
Ethan Sterling noticed her expression and smiled as he placed the breakfast tray in front of Seraphina Thorne.
"You worked hard last night, darling, have a little more breakfast."
Seraphina, lacking his thick-skinned nature, could only lower her head and focus on eating to hide her embarrassment.
After finishing breakfast, she simply tidied up, bid farewell to Ethan Sterling, and prepared to leave.
"What, leaving already?" Ethan leaned on the bar counter, tilting his head, "Finished eating and then leaving?"
Seraphina knew he wasn’t just talking about breakfast, and her face warmed.
"The prison is in the suburbs; I need to leave early."
Ethan came over and pushed the car keys into her hand.
"Take my car, and be careful on the road."
Last time, because of her, he had lost a car, so Seraphina felt too embarrassed to accept.
"It’s okay, I’m not really in a hurry..."
Before she could finish, Ethan had leaned down, sealing her lips.
After a deep French kiss that made her blush and her heart race, he lifted his face slightly.
"If you’re not in a hurry, darling, I don’t mind doing something else."
Doing something else would mean she might miss the visiting hours by the time she got there.
"I’m in a hurry, so I’m leaving now!"
Seraphina pushed him away, grabbed the car keys, and rushed out of the hall, taking the elevator downstairs.
At the entrance of the building, Ms. Sawyer happened to be coming over.
Seeing Seraphina, Ms. Sawyer smiled and greeted her.
Her gaze fell on Seraphina’s face, and Ms. Sawyer smiled mischievously.
"Indeed, a woman looked after by a man is different. Ma’am, you look so beautiful today."
"You’re teasing me again."
Waving her hand, Seraphina quickly walked out of the building.
Seated in the newly purchased Cullinan, she opened her makeup mirror to touch up her lipstick.
In the mirror, her face was flushed, and her eyes glistened with moisture.
Like a rose that had been nourished by rain, she appeared more vivid than her usual self.
Seraphina lifted her finger to touch her face.
Clearly, she didn’t like Ethan, yet she didn’t reject being close to him.
At the moment, she felt like a bad woman.
Shaking her head to dispel those complicated emotions, she returned the makeup mirror to its place, started the car, and drove out of The Paramount Gardens.
Without having to squeeze into a bus, she arrived nearly half an hour earlier than expected.
After handing over the food and clothes she brought for her brother to the staff, she joined other family members in the visiting hall.
Separated by a pane of glass in the visiting room, her elder brother Caleb Thorne was already sitting in a chair waiting for her.
The once high-spirited young talent had lost a lot of weight.
Noticing the wound on his face, Seraphina anxiously grabbed the phone receiver.
"Brother, what happened to your face?"
"It’s nothing!" Caleb wryly touched his face, "I was in a hurry shaving this morning and accidentally cut myself."
Razors are controlled items in prison and can’t usually be used casually.
Upon hearing his sister was visiting, Caleb specially requested permission to use one from the staff.
The only shavers available under surveillance were old-fashioned manual ones, and Caleb wasn’t used to it, accidentally cutting his face.
Though he smiled nonchalantly, Seraphina felt a pang of sadness.
Caleb had once been a winner of international design awards, regarded by everyone as a future design master.
Now, he was bearing a wrongful accusation, locked up in prison.
How could a sister not feel pained?
Struggling to control her emotions, Seraphina forced a big smile.
"Let me tell you, Dad’s surgery went well, and he’s already awake. The doctor said that as long as we stick to the treatment, he could soon speak again and maybe even stand up in the future!"
"Is that so?" Caleb also smiled, "That’s great."
"And this." Seraphina took out the documents she brought from her bag, "I’ve found a lawyer for you. Do you remember Nathan Foster? He’s now an excellent lawyer and has agreed to help with your appeal! As long as you sign, the contract will be valid."
On the other side of the glass, Caleb didn’t show the happiness Seraphina anticipated.
"There’s no need, Seraphina!" Caleb smiled and shook his head, "You should stop worrying about this, take Dad and study abroad. The bonds I transferred to your name should sustain you for a few years if used wisely."
"Brother!" Seraphina’s eyes reddened, "Do you plan to just give up like this?"
Not wanting Caleb to worry, she hadn’t told him.
Those bonds had long been sold, used to cover court fines to reduce Caleb’s sentence.
Caleb lowered his lashes.
Of course, he didn’t want to give up.
More than being in prison, bearing the reputation of a black-hearted designer pained him.
But pursuing the case required money.
Given the current state of the Thorne Family, Seraphina could barely manage their father’s medical expenses alone.
How could he bear to let his sister run around for his appeal?
Besides, there was Adrian Chamberlain.
If Seraphina stayed in Jadeston, Adrian surely wouldn’t leave her in peace.
Caleb would rather stay in prison, carrying a lifelong burden than watch Seraphina suffer under that scoundrel.
"Seraphina!" Caleb placed his palm against the glass, "Listen to me, it’s just five years. It’ll pass quickly... By the time you finish your studies, I would’ve been released, and things will all get better."
"No way!" Seraphina insisted, "I must fight this case; I need everyone to know you’re innocent!"
She pushed the documents through the space at the bottom of the glass, handing Caleb a pen.
"Brother, you just need to sign, and leave the rest to me."
"Seraphina..."
Caleb was about to say more when Seraphina, eyes red, lifted her face.
"I know this case is tough, but if I just leave you and go, would I still be human?"
Seraphina, tears in her eyes, gazed at her brother across the glass.
"If you really see me as your sister, please don’t let my efforts go to waste. I’m begging you, brother, just sign it, okay?"
Looking at his tearful sister outside the window, Caleb’s heart ached beyond measure.
The little sister they cherished and protected her entire life was now facing everything alone.
His voice was choked, tears falling uncontrollably.
"Seraphina, it’s all my fault. I should be the one taking care of you!"
"I know you love me most," Seraphina cried, yet smiled, "Then let’s work hard together and win this case, okay? Once you’re out, you can help me take care of Dad, and then I can safely study abroad."
Caleb thought for a moment and raised his face.
"I can promise you, but you must promise me, if we lose this case, you’ll immediately take Dad and study abroad, and don’t worry about me anymore."
Knowing he wouldn’t sign unless she agreed, Seraphina nodded reluctantly.
Caleb took the pen and signed his name at the end of the document.
"Alright, visiting time is up."
The staff approached and announced loudly.
Caleb pushed the signed document back to Seraphina.
"Seraphina, promise me, take good care of yourself. No matter where I am, I’ll always remember I have the best sister in the world."
With one last reluctant look at her sister, Caleb hardened his heart and turned to leave the visiting room.
Seraphina took the document, confirmed it carefully, and slipped it into her backpack, wiping her face.
With this contract, Nathan Foster could formally assist with Caleb’s appeal.
Leaving the visiting room, Seraphina hurried out the prison gates, when a person rushed forward to block her.
"Seraphina, I knew you’d come today."
