Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Right Now, I Just Want... to Kiss You (Part 1)

"I’m talking about Nathan Foster!" Ethan Sterling chuckled, "What kind of expression is that, are you afraid I’m going to ask you for a red envelope?!"

"Ah... I..." Nathan Foster noticed his own faux pas and smiled awkwardly, "I’m just... so surprised, I didn’t expect you two to be together! Congratulations!"

Ethan Sterling settled Seraphina Thorne at the table and gestured for Nathan Foster to sit down, then sat next to Seraphina.

"By the way, honey, how do you know Nathan?"

"Oh, Nathan and my family are neighbors." Seraphina explained proactively, "When we were kids, he and my brother were always classmates, and I used to play with them a lot."

"Since we all know each other well, I’ll get straight to the point." Ethan Sterling turned to Nathan Foster, speaking solemnly, "I invited you here not just for a meal. You have to help with Seraphina’s brother Caleb’s case!"

"You don’t need to arrange that." Nathan Foster smiled again, "Seraphina and I have already signed the contract."

"The lawyer I mentioned is Nathan." Seraphina laughed.

Ethan Sterling was momentarily stunned and then laughed out loud as well.

"Alright then, let’s talk business!"

Taking a stack of documents from his bag and handing them to Nathan Foster, Ethan Sterling explained seriously.

"These are some materials I found in the Zenith Group’s files regarding the collapsed building."

Nathan Foster took them, flipping through casually, "I’ll take a closer look at these later."

"And this." Ethan Sterling took a page of documents Seraphina had received from Adrian Chamberlain, "This is a file Adrian gave Seraphina. We suspect he might have more information."

"Adrian Chamberlain?" Nathan Foster looked up, "Who is he?"

Seraphina pursed her lips, "He is... my former fiancé."

Nathan Foster paused, glanced at Ethan Sterling, and did not ask further questions.

The meal continued until past eleven at night before they called it a night.

Seraphina and Ethan Sterling left together with Nathan Foster.

The assistant drove the car over, Nathan Foster opened the door, and turned to Ethan Sterling.

"I almost forgot, about Chloe going to the hospital yesterday, thanks for your help."

"Your sister is like my sister, what’s there to thank?" Ethan Sterling closed the car door for him, "Go home and rest."

Nathan Foster waved to the two and the assistant started the car to leave.

Standing by the side, Seraphina couldn’t help but lose focus.

So, that girl yesterday was Nathan Foster’s sister, Chloe Foster?

With Ethan Sterling and Nathan Foster being such good friends, it’s natural for him to help Chloe out.

It seems...

She was really overthinking things?

Ethan Sterling saw her standing still, waved his hand in front of her eyes.

"Mrs. Sterling, what are you daydreaming about?"

"Oh!" Seraphina snapped back to reality, shook her head, "Nothing."

The two went to the parking lot together, and since Ethan Sterling had been drinking, Seraphina drove.

"I just remembered, I forgot to give Nathan some other documents." Ethan Sterling leaned back in the passenger seat, "Let’s go and deliver them."

Seraphina looked at the time, "It’s so late, how about I find time to deliver them tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow?" Ethan Sterling turned his face to her, smiling, "No, that won’t do, it’ll be too late by tomorrow, it has to be tonight!"

Seeing him speak so seriously, Seraphina quickly made a right turn, steering the car onto the road leading to Sovereign Villa.

Soon, the car drove into the Sovereign Villa District.

Not far from the Foster Villa, Ethan Sterling suddenly spoke from the passenger seat.

"Honey, pull over!"

Seraphina hit the brake, bringing the car to a stop by the roadside.

Ethan Sterling unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the car door.

Seeing him get out, Seraphina thought he felt unwell from drinking too much. She quickly grabbed a water bottle and some tissues, went around the front of the car, and stood by his side.

"Where are you feeling uncomfortable?" She opened the water bottle, handed it to him, and put one hand on his shoulder, softly patting his back with the other, "Do you want to throw up?"

Ethan Sterling lifted his face and looked at the road ahead.

"We’re not far from the Foster Villa; let’s walk there?"

"Okay." Seraphina quickly reached out to support his arm, "Take it slow."

They walked to the front of the Thorne Villa, and Ethan Sterling slowed down.

"Your family also lives in this neighborhood, which house is it?"

Seraphina turned her face, glanced at her family’s old home, and pointed.

"It’s this one."

Wrapping his arm around her shoulders, Ethan Sterling grinned.

"Want to go inside and take a look?"

Seraphina shook her head.

Of course, she wanted to.

However, this house no longer belonged to the Thorne Family, so how could she just go in? 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"Come on, let’s go check it out."

With his arm around her, Ethan Sterling strode up the steps.

Seraphina hurriedly pulled on his arm, "What if someone’s inside?"

"This is your home; how could there be anyone else?" Ethan Sterling climbed the last step and stood in front of the door.

"Ethan!" Seraphina thought he was drunk, anxiously blocking him, "Don’t mess around, okay?"

Holding her shoulders, he turned her around to face the door.

Ethan Sterling lifted his right hand, gripped her hand, and pressed something into it.

Seraphina lowered her face, looked at her palm, and there lay a set of keys.

The biggest key was red, one corner already chipped, and a fluffy red-eyed white bunny dangled next to it.

That was...

Her keys!

Seraphina was born in the year of the rabbit.

The bunny above was specially bought by her mom when she first gave her the keys.

The string could be pulled out so it could hang around her neck.

Clutching the keychain, Seraphina turned to Ethan Sterling in shock, her eyes already brimming with tears.

"Did you... buy this house?"

"What do you think?" Ethan Sterling raised his chin with a smile, "Aren’t you going to open the door and see if it’s changed?"

"Mhm!"

Sniffling, Seraphina turned around, took the key, and opened the door.

Never in her life did she think she would have the chance to return home.

Never expected to have the house back.

Overwhelmed by emotion, she tried two times but couldn’t get the key in.

Ethan Sterling reached over with his big hand, held her hand, aligned the key, and gently turned.

A soft click sounded as the door opened.

Seraphina couldn’t wait to push the door open and rush into the living room.

Ethan Sterling switched on the main light, and the room flooded with familiar sights.

The sofa where she slept, the little table father and brother used to play chess, the curtains mother designed herself...

The whole living room remained unchanged since she left.

All the furniture was clean, shining under the lights.

A blooming bouquet adorned the vase.

The fruit bowl held washed fruits.

...

The sheet music atop the piano was still open to the page of her last performance.

As if she’d never left.

Merely a morning stroll and a return by nightfall.

Closing the door behind him, Ethan Sterling approached, his smile gentle.

"How do you like this gift?"
