Marvel: The Ultimate Superman-Chapter 226 - 225. Wanda’s Wrath
Chapter 226: 225. Wanda’s Wrath
◉◉◉◉◉
"Why wasn’t I invited to the meeting?"
Wanda stood with her arms crossed, glaring directly at Nolan. The rest of the people in the conference room fell into an awkward silence the moment she entered.
Newcomers like Viper and Sphinx were confused, but the veterans, Connors, and the others instinctively knew why she was upset. It was an open secret: Wanda was more than just a powerful ally; many saw her as the future Mrs. Nolan.
Nolan was young. Wanda was young, beautiful, powerful, and the only person who seemed genuinely close to him. There had once been another, but she was long gone... just ashes now.
They had all wondered why Wanda hadn’t shown up. Some assumed she was busy with Avengers affairs. But now it was clear she wasn’t invited. And knowing her ties to the Avengers, Connors and the others had intentionally chosen to keep her in the dark.
The fear? That she might warn them.
Especially since Black Panther had aligned with Stark’s camp, and the Avengers were beginning to heal from their internal rifts.
If Wanda caught wind of Nolan’s plan to strike Wakanda... there was a risk she’d ruin everything.
But she found out anyway.
Wanda locked eyes with Nolan, unflinching. He stared back, calm as ever.
"You all, leave us," Nolan said.
The others filed out quickly. Even the Rhino, not known for his brainpower, could sense that staying would be a bad idea.
Viper and Sphinx lingered a moment longer, curiously eyeing Wanda as they walked past. Viper squinted. There was something hauntingly familiar about Wanda’s energy.
When the door shut behind them, silence fell.
"Sit," Nolan said with a casual smile. "There’s no need to get so worked up. I didn’t call you in because I didn’t want to put you in a tough spot."
"What tough spot?" Wanda shot back, hopping up onto the table, her toned legs crossed and posture radiating annoyance. "You just don’t trust me. You’re afraid I’ll screw up your plan."
Nolan didn’t deny it. "Correct. I don’t trust you. At least, not when it comes to this."
"Why not?"
"Because our target is Black Panther. Or more specifically Wakanda."
Wanda blinked. Then frowned.
"I’m not even close to T’Challa or his country. Why shouldn’t I know?"
"Because if I move against Wakanda, the Avengers will intervene. And if I face off against them, what will you do?"
Nolan’s voice was calm but firm.
"Think before you answer. Last time, and the time before that you chose to help Rogers and the others. I didn’t say anything then, because it was minor. I was just there to observe."
"But this time is different," he continued. "This time, I’m going in full force. I may even have to kill to protect my people. And if you stand in my way, I won’t hesitate."
Wanda’s expression changed. "But why go this far?"
"I need Vibranium."
"Can’t you just buy it?"
Nolan laughed. "Do you really think Wakanda’s going to sell their greatest national treasure? Their entire technological superiority is built on it. The little bit they let leak onto the global market is just bait to watch the world scramble."
"But it’s their Vibranium—"
Wanda stopped as she saw Nolan’s smirk.
"Their Vibranium?" he echoed. "By that logic, I’m currently the Sorcerer Supreme. So does that mean the Earth belongs to me?"
"I could try to convince them—"
"You won’t. And even if you did, they wouldn’t give me enough. I need a massive amount. For defense. For power. For the future. I’m not just thinking of Earth I’m thinking cosmic."
Before she could reply, Nolan stood.
"That’s all I needed to say. You’re still my friend. I’ll keep helping you. I’ll still try to revive your brother. I’ll continue teaching you magic."
"But..." he added, "our relationship ends at the threshold of the Mystic Arts. If you want to stand with the Avengers against me... go ahead. It’ll be a good test of how far your training has come."
Wanda froze.
It hit her that she had sided against Nolan before. Even if she hadn’t fought him directly, she had still warned Rogers and the others.
She thought Nolan hadn’t noticed.
But clearly, he had.
And now, hearing him say their bond might end—it scared her. Not like when she lost Pietro... but enough to make her chest ache.
"No!" she shouted, standing suddenly. "I won’t betray you! I won’t fight against you no matter what happens!"
She realized in that moment that only Nolan had truly helped her. Rogers had seen her power. Feared it. Tried to contain it. But never once offered to bring back her brother.
Only Nolan had done that.
Nolan paused, then turned with a soft smile. "Good. I’m heading to dinner. You coming?"
Wanda nodded and smiled, too. "Yeah."
It was the first time he’d invited her to dinner.
---
Later that night...
Naturally, one thing led to another.
Their mutual attraction, always simmering beneath the surface, finally erupted. Wanda didn’t resist. Nor did Nolan.
In the dim light, Wanda rested against him, exhausted but content. Nolan leaned against the headboard, reading a worn, ancient tome gifted by the Ancient One herself on how to claim dominion over a dimension without a master.
He set aside his magical projects for now. All of that could wait until the Vibranium was secured. First, he had to master the technique of dimensional imprinting.
The book was dense with arcane sigils, soul manipulation theory, and spatial displacement. Reading it reminded Nolan of his early days studying biology he could memorize it, but without foundational knowledge, it was just symbols and theory.
"Space... soul..."
To claim a dimension, he had to brand its core with his soul’s imprint.
Simple in theory.
But entering a dimension with your soul was dangerously unpredictable. One misstep, and you’d be shredded by forces beyond comprehension. Best case, you’d go mad. Worst case, you’d die.
"Let’s try," he murmured.
How could he not? An unclaimed dimension was a rare treasure. Any sorcerer would kill for the chance.
