Marvel's master of cosmic magic-Chapter 842
"Let’s take them back to base first," Rowan said, opening a spatial gate to the Black Bulls’ hideout.
"This is bigger than just us. We’ll need Captain Yami and the Wizard King involved if we’re going to resolve it cleanly."
Patry, Vetto, Rhya, and Fana were already reincarnated. But the rest of the elves?
Their souls were embedded inside human bodies across the Clover Kingdom.
And not just ordinary people.
Many held influential positions. Some were elite Magic Knights. Even the Black Bulls weren’t exempt.
Luck.
Gauche.
Even Gauche’s little sister.
Rowan had confirmed that neither Yami nor the current Wizard King bore an elf soul. That was a relief. Yami, especially now with Black Dragon Force, would be a nightmare to handle if something hijacked him.
Still, this was a wake-up call.
Rowan made a quiet decision.
From now on, everyone he dealt with would be examined properly. Not just surface mana scans. Soul structure. Hidden entities. The full picture.
He didn’t enjoy prying that deeply.
But ignorance was worse.
Lumiere agreed.
Using Light Magic bindings, he escorted the captured members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun through the portal.
They arrived in front of the Black Bulls’ castle.
Rowan amplified his voice.
"Captain Yami! We have a situation!"
The castle shook as half-asleep voices erupted from within.
Moments later, Yami and the others emerged, blinking at the sight of dozens of cloaked prisoners bound in radiant chains.
Yami scratched his head. "Rowan... what exactly did you bring home?"
"Recognize the uniforms?" Rowan asked.
Noelle’s eyes widened first. "They’re from the group that attacked the village."
Yami’s expression hardened.
The four captured attackers had yielded nothing. Their memories had been sealed. Their loyalty absolute.
This wasn’t small.
Lumiere stepped forward.
"I owe you an explanation."
He dispelled his disguise.
Light shifted.
His true form stood revealed.
"I am Lumiere Silvamillion Clover. The first Wizard King."
Silence.
Someone dropped something.
Yami stared.
"...You’re kidding."
He wasn’t.
Lumiere told the story in full.
The elves.
The massacre.
The Word Devil’s manipulation.
The reincarnation spell.
The Shadow Palace.
By the time he finished, no one was sleepy anymore.
Gauche’s face had gone pale.
"You’re telling me... Marie could have an elf inside her?"
Vetto laughed coldly. "Your bodies are vessels. That’s all they ever were."
Gauche’s mirrors ignited dangerously.
Rowan stepped between them and placed a hand against Fana’s chest.
There was a pulse.
Different from Vetto and Rhya.
He closed his eyes.
Then struck.
A subtle shock of magic passed through her.
Fana’s body went limp.
Vetto roared. "What did you do to her?"
Rowan uncorked a small crystal vial.
He reached above Fana’s head—grasped something unseen—
And drew it out.
A wisp of luminous essence twisted into the container.
Fana’s human eyes fluttered open.
She looked around in confusion.
"Where... am I?"
Rowan sealed the vial.
"The elf was sharing her body. She was still alive beneath it. I separated them."
The room fell silent.
"You can... do that?" Gauche asked hoarsely.
"Yes," Rowan replied simply. "And if necessary, I can do it for the rest."
He glanced at the prisoners.
"I don’t intend harm. When this ends, I can give the elves proper bodies. Real reincarnation. No possession."
Lumiere’s eyes trembled.
"For centuries... I carried that guilt."
Rowan waved it off.
"It’s manageable."
He didn’t elaborate that creating suitable vessels would be trivial for him. No need to unsettle everyone further.
Yami exhaled slowly.
"This is above my pay grade."
He turned to Finral.
"Open a gate to the capital. We’re waking Julius."
—
Thirty minutes later, the current Wizard King stepped through the portal.
Julius Novachrono’s eyes shone like a child discovering a new toy.
"The first Wizard King... alive. Reincarnated elves... Forbidden magic... This is extraordinary."
Yami muttered, "Focus." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Julius composed himself and listened carefully as everything was explained again.
He didn’t flinch at the scale.
When they reached the part about releasing the Word Devil, he folded his hands behind his back.
"So the choice is simple," he said thoughtfully. "Maintain the seal indefinitely... or break it deliberately and eliminate the threat once and for all."
Rowan watched him quietly.
Julius continued.
"If we merely preserve the seal, we leave the danger for future generations. Someone else could be manipulated. History could repeat."
He smiled faintly.
"I would rather face it now."
Yami grinned. "That’s the spirit."
Julius looked toward Lumiere.
"With you here... and with the strength this squad now holds... I believe we can win."
He wasn’t reckless.
He had intelligence reports from the Spade Kingdom. Rumors of devils influencing their leadership. The death of Noelle’s mother under a demonic curse.
The threat wasn’t theoretical.
Better to understand it firsthand.
Rowan nodded slowly.
"We’ll need to move quickly. Patry will notice his stones are gone."
"Yes," Julius agreed. "I’ll summon William immediately."
Rowan’s gaze lingered on him for a moment longer.
He had scanned Julius while they spoke.
And found something.
Another soul.
No.
Not a soul.
A presence.
Dormant.
Immense.
Time-aligned.
Ancient.
A devil.
Rowan recognized the signature almost instantly.
Astaroth.
One of the rulers of the underworld.
Hidden within the Wizard King.
Julius himself seemed unaware.
A dual existence. A layered consciousness.
Interesting.
Rowan said nothing.
For now.
Julius stepped back toward the portal, already issuing orders.
They needed William Vangeance under control before Patry could act.
And somewhere, beneath Julius’s warm smile—
Something far older waited.
