Mercenary's War-Chapter 2027 - 2004: Something Big Has Happened
The organization known as the Cleaners always hides behind the scenes and never comes out without reason.
When Gao Yang and the Cleaners were in the early stages of their relationship, the Cleaners’ work was mostly about destroying evidence and eradicating all traces of crime. In simple terms, they were specialists in cleaning up messes.
But when Gao Yang’s relationship with the Cleaners advanced to a higher level and he became a VIP member, the services he received naturally expanded. They upgraded from post-event cleanup to proactive measures to neutralize threats at the earliest sign of a crisis.
If Gao Yang or Satan encountered a crisis detected by the Cleaners, the Cleaners would immediately take defensive measures. Once those measures were put into action, it meant the firewall had been activated.
The Cleaners never voluntarily appear nor reach out to Gao Yang, but once they proactively contact him to inform him the firewall has been activated, it signifies something serious has occurred.
Gao Yang was certainly somewhat tense, but not to the point of fear, because the Cleaners had his back.
The Cleaners are mysterious and powerful, and outsiders cannot glimpse the true nature of this organization. Murphy held the position of the highest regional director in the FBI, quite a high-ranking role, yet within the Cleaners, he was merely a senior member, not even part of the core, which speaks volumes.
Now that the Cleaners have activated the firewall, the only thing Gao Yang could think of was that the CIA had started investigating him.
Generally, the FBI handles domestic affairs in America, while the CIA deals with international matters. Since Murphy in the FBI was backing Gao Yang, much of Gao Yang’s major business was discreetly handled by the FBI. It’s unlikely that the FBI would make a move against him.
The FBI wouldn’t target Gao Yang, so the only one capable and motivated enough to investigate him would be the CIA.
Speaking of encounters with the CIA, Gao Yang had faced them many times. In South Africa, he boldly confronted the CIA while rescuing Grand Ivan. In Ukraine, Satan clashed directly with the CIA. If it weren’t for Gao Yang drawing the CIA’s attention in Ukraine, Grand Ivan wouldn’t have escaped his days as a Wild Man in the Amazon Rainforest so swiftly. Additionally, during the battle against Butter Knife, Satan confronted the CIA once more.
Beyond the Grand Ivan affair, Gao Yang also sabotaged the CIA’s plans in Syria and even took out Prince Suharitan, a close ally of the CIA. The Shah Intelligence Agency also had strong ties to the CIA.
Even outside of America, Gao Yang and the CIA had crossed paths frequently, and each time was a significant enough transgression to make the CIA determined to hunt down Satan and Gao Yang.
In conclusion, there is a deep-seated enmity between the CIA and Gao Yang. Any slip that reveals Gao Yang’s involvement could lead the CIA to him.
Gao Yang absolutely cannot be targeted by the CIA. It’s not just about the CIA taking action against him. Even being monitored by the CIA is unbearable for Gao Yang, and Satan can’t afford that either.
If the CIA did start focusing on him, his plans in Yemen would be completely thwarted, and his business ventures in America would be out of the question. As for Satan’s members hoping for a good outcome, that would be a pipe dream. Even relatives like Yelena would face misfortune or even ruin.
Now, it’s all about seeing how capable the Cleaners truly are in protecting Gao Yang and the entire satan. No one else could help; not even Morgan, despite his extensive influence, could sway the CIA to spare Satan, whom they regard as a major enemy.
Of course, Gao Yang still had an ace up his sleeve, an amulet for survival: the three nuclear bombs Grand Ivan gave him.
But deploying this ace means the situation has reached an irreversible point. From then on, Gao Yang could no longer live in the daylight, instead, he would spend his life in the Underworld’s shadows alongside Grand Ivan. Even with astronomical wealth, he’d be confined to a corner as a figurehead.
The Cleaners activating the firewall is something that theoretically cannot be disclosed to anyone, yet Gao Yang had to inform Morgan.
Currently, Morgan was pushing to bring Gao Yang to the forefront, but if the Cleaners failed, forcing Gao Yang to play his survival card, Morgan’s close association with Gao Yang would inevitably involve him too.
By logic and duty, Gao Yang had to give Morgan a heads-up, so Morgan could prepare himself to sever ties if things worsened to avoid being dragged down.
While on his way to the airport, Gao Yang dialed Morgan’s phone. When Morgan answered, Gao Yang spoke in a low voice: "There’s an issue on my end, someone’s investigating me." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Morgan replied immediately: "Investigating you? Who?"
"Not entirely sure yet, but the Cleaners have activated the firewall, which means they’re taking action against whoever it is. I need to go to New York to meet my contact to ascertain what’s happening, but my guess is it’s the CIA."
Morgan exhaled, speaking softly: "Understood. It’s best to quickly find out who is investigating you and why. I’m heading to New York as well, right now. Do you want to travel on the same plane?"
Gao Yang thought for a moment and said, "Never mind, let’s go separately. Morgan, you need to prepare for the worst. If my situation becomes critical, you need to be able to cut ties with me promptly."
Morgan chuckled quietly and said, "I understand. You don’t need to worry about that. Well, keep me updated with any developments. I’ll see you in New York."
After Gao Yang hung up the phone, Number Thirteen said in a deep voice: "Our plane is ready. We can take off at any time."
Li Jinfang shouted: "Brother Yang, if it’s the CIA, what do you think they’re after?"
Gao Yang sighed, looking helpless: "That’s hard to say. We have lots of dark history that could lead to being hunted to the ends of the earth. But, whatever. I still have faith in the Cleaners."
After speaking, Gao Yang checked his watch and frowned: "At least seven or eight hours to New York. The Cleaners never clarify the situation, so it’s hard to gauge the severity. Should we evacuate everyone?"
Gao Yang couldn’t decide. At this moment, Number Thirteen said: "Since the Cleaners have activated the firewall, there should be no problem. Just give everyone a heads-up, no need to be overly anxious."
Gao Yang picked up the phone, looking resigned: "I’ll let everyone know to be cautious. Sigh, I hope nothing happens. I don’t want to end up hiding in some godforsaken place. F**k, who is investigating us and why?"
