Mercenary's War-Chapter 2104 - 2081: I Guess We’re Friends
Search high and low, and find it effortlessly.
Gao Yang immediately widened his eyes, focusing intently on Phoenix. His breathing began to quicken, but Phoenix strangely met his gaze without any intention of further explanation.
Finally, Gao Yang couldn’t hold back anymore. He shouted, "And then? You can’t always leave your sentences hanging!"
Phoenix furrowed her brows, pointed at the gun, and said, "I’ve already finished."
Gao Yang anxiously scratched his head, then pointed at the gun too and shouted, "Obviously, I need you to explain the origins of this gun. You said you recognize this gun, and then what? Tell me what’s going on with this gun? You can’t just say you recognize the gun and call it a day!"
Phoenix furrowed her brows and nodded, "Understood, I know this gun. It’s a member’s gun from the American Women’s Marksman Association, a small organization. I was a member too and once owned the same rifle."
Gao Yang took a deep breath and urgently said, "Go on! Go on!"
"That’s it."
"That’s it? What do you mean by ’that’s it’?"
"That’s all about this gun. Do you want me to give you the performance specs?"
Gao Yang snapped, "I know you don’t like to talk, but when I really need some information, you’d better tell me everything you know. Are you playing dumb with me? Huh? Do you think playing dumb is funny? Or do you think acting cool is fun? Damn it, tell me everything you know. Is this how you communicate with your comrades on the battlefield? F**k!"
Silence is golden. Not liking to talk isn’t a big deal, but leaving things half-said at critical moments, such people deserve a beating.
Phoenix snapped her fingers coolly and said, "Understood, you’re not interested in the gun, but the owner of the gun. Well, the American Women’s Marksman Association has over five thousand members. Among them, only one hundred and twelve are qualified for the marksman title and this member’s gun. I don’t know all their names, that’s all."
Gao Yang quickly said, "Listen, the previous owner of this gun, I killed her. Do you know what that means?"
"She’s dead."
"No! It’s not that simple! It means she’s dead, but her comrades still pose a threat to us. Understand? The enemy, we’re enemies. Now that dead sniper is your enemy, and her surviving comrades are also your enemy. You need to do something!"
Phoenix calmly said, "I don’t know everyone. Anyone who shoots well gets the marksman title. Although the majority of them die on the battlefield, I’m not familiar with them, so I don’t know who goes on the battlefield and can become the great sniper you mentioned."
After finishing, Phoenix swallowed and said helplessly, "I’ve competed against some of them before to make a living, but I only know very few people, so you need to give me more accurate information. Perhaps, I might coincidentally know her."
"Directionless!"
Gao Yang and Cui Bo shouted together.
Then Gao Yang urgently said, "Yes, directionless. That woman was directionless and claimed to be Israeli! Her gunmanship was precise, but her mastery of timing was impeccable. She..."
"She’s not Israeli."
Phoenix’s expression changed slightly and interrupted Gao Yang’s words. She immediately said, "She’s not Israeli. She’s American. She just traveled to Israel. This little trickster loves to deceive. If you’re talking about someone with precise gunmanship, a mastery of timing, and quite attractive, then I think I know her."
Gao Yang swallowed his saliva. He thought, for a sniper as skilled as Specter, she couldn’t possibly be an unknown figure. Someone so formidable can’t hide her brilliance even if she doesn’t try.
Gao Yang swallowed and mumbled, "At the time, she had a night vision device, blood on her face, so I didn’t notice if she was attractive, but her figure was indeed good. Uh, please be more specific."
Phoenix looked up at the sky, seemingly reminiscing, then nodded, "The headquarters of the American Women’s Marksman Association is in Phoenix, Arizona. Every year, there’s a shooting competition. The members of this association have decent gunmanship among women. Few get the marksman title, and their gunmanship is excellent, but they’re only shooting enthusiasts. Being able to shoot doesn’t mean they can fight."
"Yeah, right, that’s true. Please continue."
"There’s only one person, her name is Lola O’Connor. Her shooting is excellent. Like me, she is also army retired. We have something else in common: we both studied at Fort Benning Sniper School and both served in Iraq. Our biggest difference is her terribly poor sense of direction."
Gao Yang suddenly thought of a possibility, swallowed, and whispered, "Oh, sh*t, you guys wouldn’t happen to be friends, right?"
If Specter and Phoenix were friends, this possibility was significant, and the situation seemed to get complicated because Specter was killed by Gao Yang.
Phoenix fell into thought, pouting, she thought for a while, nodded, "I have very few friends, that cutie, she..."
Gao Yang nervously opened his mouth, unaware, and after a moment Phoenix shook her head, "She’s not my friend either. We just appreciate each other, and have spoken a few times. Although she often calls me, we’re really not considered friends."
Gao Yang clapped his hands, relieved, "That’s great, please continue."
Phoenix said gravely, "Every year there’s a competition in the desert near Phoenix because of relatively generous prizes, we both frequently attend."
Gao Yang nodded, extending his hand, "Then, do you know why she’s my enemy?"
"I don’t know."
Gao Yang thought for a moment, shook his head, "Forget it, better not say. Hmm, do you have a photo of Lola? I want to confirm."
"I don’t, but the association’s website should have them. Pictures of past competition winners are kept there."
Gao Yang clapped his hands repeatedly, whispering, "Perfect, find it effortlessly, Rabbit, can your phone access the internet? Quickly check it out, ah, Phoenix, another question, between you and her... who’s better?"
"Me."
Pointing at her nose, Phoenix confidently said, "Of course me, I wouldn’t get lost."
Gao Yang was very pleased, he pointed at Phoenix and gave a thumbs up, when Phoenix suddenly said, "Correction."
"Correct what?"
"What I said before, I said Lola and I aren’t friends, but now that I think about it, I feel like we should be considered friends."
