Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva-Chapter 1639 - 88: Journey on the Surface
’According to the frontline reports, the Fifth Fleet has already stayed in the Hanging Stone Star Domain for nearly a month, and negotiations between the Federation and the Mechanical Council are underway...’ the Personal Terminal by the desk is reporting the recent news.
Enjoying this custom sumptuous lunch in front of him, Biao Xing appreciated the generous food and dining standards of the Fifth Fleet.
"Hey~" A familiar voice came from afar.
Biao Xing looked up and saw the seaweed-haired researcher coming over with a group of people, judging by their pilot suits, they should be members of the Fifth Fleet.
"You’ve been with the Fifth Fleet for a month, have you gotten used to it, Biao Xing?" The researcher still wore a lazy smile.
Since Prin led the Fifth Fleet’s departure, he and many from the institute were also assigned to the Fifth Fleet, supposedly to test new-style Mecha on the battlefield and collect data.
"I’m used to it." Biao Xing nodded, his gaze drawn to the people beside the seaweed-haired.
Although they were all pilots, he clearly felt that these few people were more downcast.
"Let me introduce you, these are the test drivers of the new-style Mecha, and just like your position at the institute, you’ll be colleagues from now on." With the seaweed-haired researcher’s introduction, these people finally managed to squeeze out polite smiles.
"Hello."
"Hello." The parties nodded.
Then it was the usual exchanging of introductions.
"This is Misa."
"I’m Kuman."
"I’m Wade."
"And our Que Lin." A twin-tailed green-haired girl was pushed to the front, seemingly somewhat absent-minded, but she still smiled and nodded.
"Alright, you’re acquainted now, let’s gather and eat well today, and maybe we can go out to have fun in the evening. I see it’s unlikely there’ll be any tasks for now." The seaweed-haired researcher encouraged everyone.
"No problem." The group exchanged glances and nodded, looking like there was not much age gap, with the oldest Kuman being only 36 years old, and the youngest Que Lin one year younger than Biao Xing, just 27.
"Being a Sequence 7 Mech Pilot at 27, that’s regarded as top-tier genius within a Star Domain, right?"
"Of course, Que Lin is really the treasure of our squad, haha." The dining atmosphere finally lightened up.
Later, they ordered all sorts of delicious snacks, barbecue, beer, drinks, and headed to the starship’s entertainment area to sing, dance, and play games.
After several days of interaction, Biao Xing gradually became familiar with everyone, generally feeling Kuman was mature as the Captain, Misa was a bit shy, Wade liked to act cool, and as for Que Lin... this music-loving girl, seemingly lively, occasionally sunk into thought and a low mood.
It was holiday time again, and the seaweed-haired suggested they go play on the residential planet.
"Since it seems unlikely that war will break out, you might as well go groundside for a few days, this planet’s history is quite ancient too." The seaweed-haired researcher proposed during the gathering.
"That’s a great idea, it’s what I dream of! I can get wartime salary subsidies and travel in style." Wade raised two fingers indicating it was incredibly exciting.
"Are we all going?" Biao Xing was a bit unsure, in case war started, someone in the squad should stay on duty.
"Let’s all go." The seaweed-haired researcher casually waved his wrist, then the room erupted in cheers.
...
’Wind Erosion’ residential planet, Red Earth Wilderness.
The dry wind sand blows, while walking on this land, one might occasionally feel the slight scrape against the skin.
"There’s a small town up ahead." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Tilan and Prin stood on a dune, looking toward the distant town surrounded by hills, rare natural conditions spared the town from being engulfed by sandstorms.
"Are you going there to validate your viewpoint?" Tilan shielded her head from the blazing sun with her hand.
"Yes, do you dare to come over?" Prin wore a red shirt and jeans now, with her fiery hair tied into a single ponytail, looking particularly capable, making it hard to recognize her usual identity.
"Of course."
Even knowing Prin was deliberately provoking her, Tilan didn’t refuse, today she wore a white robe, just a few strands of hair exposed through the hood.
The two followed the path down the mountain; the road was merely a flattened stretch of desert land, from the sky it appeared smooth, but walking on it revealed various pebbles and sand.
Initially, they didn’t speak much, only engaging in conversation after a while.
"Haven’t had a walk together like this in a long time." Prin reminisced about some university days.
"Mm." Tilan nodded.
"Why do you seem so silent today, you were quite chatty when debating this morning." Prin teased the black-haired girl beside her.
"I don’t feel like talking when I’m in a bad mood." Tilan lifted her eyes, looking at Prin still bathed in sunlight, her mood complex.
"That’s really troubling, having you accompany me for continuing the morning’s debate." Prin waggled her finger, walking ahead.
"Soon we’ll reach the town, let’s ask the locals how they view the twenty years of changes in the Federation under my leadership, and see if we’ve made great progress."
"Aren’t you especially practical, believing in gentleness and kindness? If even people from such a remote town feel the changes, I suppose you can’t say anything against it, right?" Prin replied confidently, looking back.
"If that’s really the case..." Tilan didn’t continue her sentence.
Their footsteps slowly approached the town in the wilderness; along the way, vehicles occasionally passed, raising billowing dust.
