Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 246: The Role of Corpses

Whether in words or demeanor, the vampire before him was flawless, appearing to speak nothing but the truth.

But Loren couldn't shake the feeling this was connected to Aisaco. He gave Loren the same vibe as Noah; these love-addled science nerds were the most unhinged, capable of doing anything.

Loren even suspected Aisaco had struck a deal with the Plague Church, determined to develop a virus specifically targeting the people of Uridia, aiming to wipe them all out in one fell swoop.

This might not immediately affect the vampires much, but vampires relied on humans for sustenance. They didn't participate in production themselves. Without humans, the vampires would collapse before long. If nothing else, they wouldn't even have blood to drink.

Perhaps immigrants would come from other places, but ultimately, they couldn't fill that void. The Uridia Kingdom would surely fall... Aisaco was truly capable of such a thing.

"Do you have any other business? Would you like a cup of tea?"

The vampire picked up the hot water kettle on the table, pouring the boiling water into the teapot. The tea leaves unfurled, the liquor turning a reddish hue—it was black tea.

His attitude towards Loren was also beyond reproach, and he was remarkably forthright.

"No need, I have other matters to attend to."

Loren didn't press the investigation too urgently; doing so might startle the snake. Thus, Loren could only leave for the time being.

"Take care. I know your moral standards are high, but this is simply unavoidable. Trading corpses may be morally questionable, but it also gives them a way to survive.

"If one person dies, their corpse can let another person live a few more days. If even corpses are unwanted, even more people would die."

This vampire even thought Loren was currently feeling sorrow over the corpse trade and offered a few words of guidance.

"You certainly have a broad perspective."

"Of course. I'm not highly regarded within the Bloodline either, which is why I was assigned this kind of work.

"Perhaps it pays well, but it's ultimately not respectable. You know how it is, our Bloodline values face above all. If I didn't have a broad perspective, I'd have killed myself long ago."

Loren didn't respond further, silently taking his leave.

Some sold their companions' corpses to survive; others wanted to die because a lucrative job wasn't respectable. Life truly was uneven.

...

"Movila, keep a close eye on this place. Something feels off here."

As an information gatherer, Movila was unmatched, especially since this place was full of carrion crows. Even if Movila's clones actually went into the warehouse to inspect the corpses, no one would find it suspicious.

"Understood, Master."

The crow in Loren's arms spoke, its voice very soft, audible only to Loren.

...

Not long after Loren left, more crows gathered here. The vampire guard didn't pay them any extra attention, merely directing those coming to sell corpses to deliver them to the warehouse.

The people moving the corpses had no protective gear whatsoever. In contrast, the vampire, who never touched the corpses himself, had his protective measures maxed out, even though his innate physique was far superior to a human's.

Meanwhile, Loren had returned to the restaurant. The recent events hadn't affected Anna's appetite in the slightest.

"What did you go do? Without you here, I hardly have any appetite."

Loren glanced at the dozen or so plates stacked beside Anna. Indeed, Anna seemed to have lost her appetite a little.

"Let's eat first. I'll tell you about my business later. I'm afraid it might affect your appetites."

Hearing this, the others roughly understood something and didn't press further.

"What would you all like to do next?"

"Watch a movie! I want to see what this thing is! Pictures that can actually move!"

Anna raised her hand first. The movies here were all black-and-white films, things Loren considered severely outdated, but they were still novel in the children's eyes.

"Alright, as you wish."

Loren agreed to Anna's request. Among the group, only Anna and Laila had any strong opinions of their own; the others would only listen to Loren.

It was supposed to be vacation time now, but Loren still subconsciously worried about this and that. The player's curse was still upon him—trouble followed wherever he went.

After the meal, the group walked towards the cinema. Loren's mind was preoccupied with worries about that vampire.

"Movila, any movement over there?"

"Someone came to move the corpses."

"!"

Loren knew the following information was crucial. He directly picked Movila up. After all, Movila only looked eight or nine years old, just small enough for Loren to hold with one arm. Movila's arms wrapped around Loren's neck.

"Who were the people who came?"

Their faces were very close. This matter was still quite private, so Loren didn't want any outsiders to overhear.

"Just a group of ordinary people. Their clothes were old, and they had no protective measures. They just moved them directly... the already rotting blood stayed on them..."

"..."

These corpses likely carried many viruses. Loren guessed that soon, someone would be selling these movers' corpses for money.

Lilith held Loren's other hand, staring blankly at him, not understanding what they were discussing.

"The corpses were loaded onto two vehicles, heading to different places.

"The corpses of Uridians were loaded separately from the other corpses..."

So far, everything that vampire said was correct. His explanation was logical, seeming truly forthright with Loren.

"Where did the vehicles go?"

The group had already arrived at the cinema entrance. Seraphina, a native of Uridia, knew a bit more about the local things here. She turned back, saw Loren and Movila had something important to discuss, so she went to buy the tickets.

"One went to the hospital, the other probably to the cemetery."

The cemetery was quite far, so Movila could only guess, but one vehicle definitely went to the hospital.

"Excuse me, pets are not allowed inside."

As Loren reached the cinema entrance, a staff member suddenly reminded him, pointing at the crow on his shoulder.

"You go outside for now."

Loren shrugged his shoulder, and the crow flew off into the night sky.

This staff member was rather ignorant, actually failing to recognize Loren. If she dared treat Loren like this in the Gedlan Kingdom, she'd be unemployed the next second.

However, Loren wasn't some lofty, arrogant person. He would still follow the rules and not cause trouble for innocent people.

"And this one." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

The staff member pointed again, this time at Starnight on Loren's head, making Starnight want to bite her.

But Starnight still didn't cause trouble for Loren, simply burrowing into Loren's clothes. Seeing this, the staff member didn't make further difficulties and let Loren enter.

Once inside, Starnight poked her head out from Loren's collar. Loren couldn't help but stroke her head.

"The other vehicle has reached the cemetery. There are some people dressed as necromancers there..."

Movila relayed the latest news to Loren. Loren began to ponder, not even noticing the movie had already started.
