Mistakenly Yours: Contract Marriage With The Billionaire-Chapter 95: Appreciate the way he helped
Luca and Remo had moved to the living room, settling into deep leather armchairs.
"Don’t tell Sara anything more," Luca ordered.
"Marco might have already opened his mouth. That’s why he went to the kitchen," Remo answered, effortlessly flicking a silver lighter open and closed between his fingers.
"I know," Luca replied, a hint of calculation in his eyes. "I let him go for a reason."
Remo stopped playing with the lighter, looking directly at his friend. "You can’t control Sara, Luca. Instead, she’s going to make you pull out of this business." He let out a harsh, resigned breath. "Fuck. This love thing is so damn evil. You’ll do what she wants after some time, and I don’t think that’s wrong. Safety first."
"You think I can’t keep her safe while staying in this business?" Luca retorted, his fingers rubbing agitatedly across his forehead. He leaned back, muttering to himself, "I should have controlled my tongue when I confessed my feelings."
Remo chuckled, a short, wry sound. "Hey, it’s good that you at least confessed. Let her know how much you want her. But I’m serious, you need to mend your ways. Sara is too upright and honest, you know this well," he murmured.
"I am not dishonest either," Luca argued, his gaze sharp. "It’s just my ways aren’t upright."
"Yeah," Remo agreed simply, waving the lighter dismissively. "We use guns to silence many, and sometimes, our influence alone is enough to shut their mouths."
This final transition wraps up the dinner scene with a subtle show of Sara’s domestic power and Luca’s acceptance of the situation.
"Hmm. How did Sara get your number?" Luca frowned, still dwelling on the exposed secrets.
"How would I know? You should ask her yourself," Remo replied, dismissing the question with a shrug. "They are here." He slipped the silver lighter into the pocket of his leather jacket as he heard footsteps approaching.
Luca instantly left his seat, standing up like a gentleman just as Sara entered the living room carrying two small, neatly tied bags.
"Sara, what are these bags for?" Remo asked, his surprise evident.
Marco gazed pointedly at Luca before taking his own seat. He placed the tray he carried, holding dessert dishes, on the coffee table.
"I made cupcakes earlier," Sara replied, her tone light and hostess-like. "I thought you both might like to take some home. For now, you can enjoy the rest from the tray," she added, pointing toward the fresh desserts Marco had just set down.
She handed each of them their respective bags before settling onto the couch beside Luca.
"Mmm. This is absolutely delicious," Remo declared, eyes wide with pleasure as he bit into a cupcake from the tray.
Sara smiled warmly and picked up a fresh one. "Here, eat this," she told Luca, offering it to him.
He took the cupcake, finally getting to taste the perfect treat she’d crafted earlier. Leaning closer to her ear, his breath warm against her skin, he whispered, "I prefer tasting through a kiss, though."
A faint blush instantly crept across her cheeks, but Sara managed to maintain her composure, simply giving him a swift, stern look.
She quietly ate her own cupcake while Luca kept his intense gaze fixed on her. Both Marco and Remo watched the subtle exchange, exchanging knowing, amused smiles at their friend.
"So, where did you two go for your honeymoon? Was it fun?" Remo broke the comfortable silence, his curious eyes reflecting something decidedly mischievous.
"The Amalfi Coast," Luca replied, taking a moment to answer. "Sara’s grandmother chose that place for us."
"But you two returned quite early, didn’t you?" Remo remarked, noting the abbreviated trip.
"Because I was worried about the mess I created here," Sara replied honestly, immediately pulling the atmosphere back toward serious topics. She then suddenly shifted the conversation. "Are you two single?"
"I am single," Marco replied easily. "But Remo keeps changing women," he added with a slight smirk.
"That’s called having fun," Remo defended, shrugging.
Sara shook her head disapprovingly.
"Love is an illusion," Remo insisted, holding up a hand dramatically. "It traps you. I want to be a free bird, not wanting to worry about anything or anyone." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"You should really just say you aren’t ready for commitment because of the business you handle," Sara stated, stripping away his romantic pretense and exposing the practical reason for his choice.
"No. Women are lined up for me, Sara. Ask Luca," Remo boasted, leaning back with a smug grin.
"Are you still seeing someone?" Luca cut in, his tone casual but his interest peaked.
"Not now. I’m on break," Remo replied with a dismissive wave. "The last one gave me a massive headache." He quickly changed the subject, turning the attention back to the couple.
"But let’s drop it. Let’s talk about you two. Do you still fight to be at the top of the class?" He smiled genuinely, recalling the competitive good old days of their school years.
"Now, Luca is at the top. I have lost everything," Sara replied simply, the stark truth cutting through the lightness of the memory. "But I appreciate the way he helped me," she added, giving Luca a brief, acknowledgment glance.
Luca watched her closely. He could sense that Sara had bottled up a lot of emotions inside her, which she was stubbornly refusing to let them on the surface.
"Sara, life happens," Marco finally spoke, offering a voice of calm reason. "If you lost something, I’m sure you gained new, important things too. You got Luca, the man you always admired."
"Yeah! Our Luca has been single since forever," Remo chimed in, picking up yet another cupcake. "Now, I finally realized why he was never truly interested in anyone else."
Sara looked at the two friends, acknowledging their good intentions, but she couldn’t let the past be painted over with just simple happiness. "But your friend broke my heart a lot of times," she said softly, the weight of old pain evident in the statement.
