Modern World Warlock-Chapter 226: Protective Barrier
Two days after the declaration of the mafia war, Dante was in the backyard of the Jade Palace, waving his hand above his Shadow Well.

Paige and Clara were present, as the scientist wanted to take notes of the warlock's activities while the redhead mom used the experience to learn more umbra control.
Dante had synthesized a sizeable blue crystal the day before and wanted to recreate it again in front of the spectators.
The crystal was slightly bigger than his fist, and it had the shape of a seed with a somewhat jagged and spiky appearance.
At first, the two women were confused when they saw the strange seed, but when the warlock explained that it was a catalyst that would be used to protect the residence, their interest was piqued to the maximum.
Dante needed to create at least four of those crystal seeds, which he would place on the corners of the residence before asking Imera and Asphodel for their help in the final spell.
However, it took the warlock four hours and a large amount of umbra to produce one crystal, so he was taking it slowly by creating one a day before training with his team.
After two more days, the four seeds were created, and Dante called upon Imera and Asphodel, who inspected the catalysts with slightly amused expressions.
"These are absolutely perfect. Good job, Dante…" Imera praised the warlock with a motherly tone.
"Umm, thanks… Can you guys enchant them?" Dante replied with another question, wanting to finish the barrier.
"Naturally—Though, I would like to procure four of these seeds for myself," The Golden Fox said.
"Same here…" Asphodel joined in.
Dante accepted their trade, saying that it would take him a few days, prompting the Mother Vampire and Sacred Beast to enchant the crystal seeds with a barrier spell.
In the world of Terra, there were several "barrier spells" that could be used by mages, with each of these barriers holding a different effect.
A common barrier placed in castles was the "detection barrier," which sent information to the caster as soon as an individual passed through it and located their position.
There was an "electric barrier" spell that could stun anyone passing through it below a certain threshold of power and a "fire barrier" that would make any trespasser combust in flames.
Since Dante had four well-made catalysts, they were able to place four different effects on the barriers. Detection, electric stun, fire combustion, and repel.
The "repel barrier" didn't have a damaging effect on trespassers like two of the previous ones, but it was one of the most powerful as the caster could place conditions to make it more effective.
A "repel barrier" that was used to keep absolutely everyone from entering it would weaken the spell, allowing a powerful individual to either destroy it or pass through it.
However, if they placed a condition stating that the "repel barrier" should only keep the undead at bay, it made the spell much stronger against said targets.
Knowing that most of the cartel's subordinates were humans or undead, they decided to place that condition.
Dante felt a sense of relief since he knew that both Netherius and Wolfram wouldn't be able to enter the Jade Palace, and after the crystal seeds had been enchanted, the warlock placed them in the four corners of the residence.
The following days after the barrier was activated, the warlock used his time in the mornings to create the catalysts for Imera and Asphodel—and used his time in the afternoon to train with his team.
During one of his training sessions, Dante asked Paige if it was possible to practice fighting something that resembled the androids from the Azure Rebels, but Paige found that a bit difficult.
"The tech that the Azure Rebels use for their androids is a secret patent of their gang… Their microchips are decades ahead of what the rest of the world uses," Paige explained.
Paige had built dozens of robots in her career as a scientist, and while she was able to build pretty destructive machines, they weren't near the level of polish of the androids.
"It's been a while since we were able to see their upgraded versions, so I'm not sure what kind of features they have now…" The scientist continued.
"I'm guessing their AI is a lot more advanced, especially if they can take orders and act in an instant…" she kept muttering.
Dante cut her off, saying that it could be a problem for him to take care of the androids as he couldn't sense a pinch of energy from them.
"When I'm fighting someone, I use their energy flow to predict their next attacks and to track them without relying on my eyes…" Dante explained.
For people who had been using magic their entire lives to protect themselves, it was second nature to use their senses to track their opponents' movements by the flow of their energy.
Since the androids didn't produce any, they were almost invisible to the warlock or anyone else who had been using magic throughout most of their lifetime.
On the other hand, people like Megan, Zac, and Alice were used to fighting using their eyes instead of their magic sense, so Dante believed that they would have a better chance against the androids than himself.
"I understand. Mana, umbra… all that stuff is produced by living beings, so it makes sense for the android not to produce any," Paige commented while nodding.
"I want to train my eyes," Dante replied, prompting Paige to walk to the command center, where she could alter the environment of the MET room.
"These won't be as impressive as the Azure Rebels' androids, but if you are just looking to train your eyesight, then I think this will be perfect…" Paige said, urging the warlock to get in the training room.
When the panels on the wall slid open, four small robots entered the MET room, facing Dante on the other side.
The robots were four feet tall, with cube heads and red lights as their eyes. Their legs and feet were replaced with bogie wheels, similar to the ones used by military tanks, and their arms had machine guns attached to them.
'Alright… This should be enough,' Dante thought, preparing himself to train with the little robots.
