Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The Church's Action

Seeing Reina collapse to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.

Conning and Flora wore mocking grins on their faces.

The mysterious figure, observing this scene, couldn't help but feel a flicker of sympathy. He silently thought, "What a loyal maid."

He glanced at the two arrogant nobles, their faces full of smug satisfaction, and felt a slight confusion. "Who exactly are the beings under the True God's command? How come these people are even more ruthless and... more cunning than I am?"

"If it weren't for the need to avoid drawing unnecessary attention, I would have wiped out this ridiculous family after obtaining the goods." The figure closed his eyes, not wanting to witness the farce any longer. He turned his focus instead to his subordinates, sensing their movements.

A ripple of magical energy coursed through the air, and the figure's vision shifted to a wide, open road.

This road was the main route connecting Minnet City to Hanseter Town.

Although it was called a connection, in reality, it required traveling over a small hill before reaching this main road from Hanseter Town.

In the figure's vision, a young man dressed like an ordinary merchant was walking slowly along the road.

His high-frequency steps and the way his muscles moved with precision indicated that he was no ordinary man.

This young man was a Bronze Rank 7 assassin and one of the mysterious figure's subordinates.

He was scanning the road for any trace of Sivis.

"According to Conning and Flora, Sivis places great importance on the safety of his maid. He will definitely rush back at the fastest speed, and intercepting him on this main road is the best approach."

"If Sivis doesn't take this road, there are many paths leading to Minnet City, and I can't investigate them all."

The mysterious figure watched his subordinate carry out the task with steady precision, his mind in thought.

Just as he was about to cut off the connection to his vision, something caught the corner of his eye.

In an instant, the figure's expression changed drastically. "How is this possible?"

He looked in alarm at the scene unfolding before him — near the merchant-disguised assassin, a cavalry team was speeding toward them.

At the front was a young woman dressed in shining silver armor and a white cloak, her long golden hair flowing in the wind. She wielded a spear, the shaft engraved with a flame design.

Behind her, a group of knights, also in armor, were galloping toward Minnet City.

The disguised assassin had no reaction, as he didn't recognize these people, only identifying them as knights from the Church.

But the mysterious figure knew exactly who they were. The young woman at the front was none other than Vikalina — a genius recently emerging from the Church, considered a "supernova" with the potential to inherit the Holy Flame Spear.

"Why is she here in Minnet City? Could it be that she's after the same thing? Or have I been exposed?"

"It's impossible. That thing won't emit any additional energy fluctuations until it's officially liberated."

After thinking for a moment, the mysterious figure clenched his teeth, deciding to take a gamble. The supernova cultivated by the Church must be a fool, a believer of the hypocritical doctrines of the True God, right?

He ordered his subordinate to pretend to trip and fall, deliberately crashing toward the knights.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The sound of hooves grew louder, and the knights were about to trample the "unlucky" merchant into the ground.

Vikalina suddenly yanked on the reins, shouting loudly, "Stop! Everyone, stop!"

Upon hearing the command, most of the knights behind her furrowed their brows.

"I knew it, following this so-called 'supernova' on missions is the worst," one knight muttered. "

"She's been so polite to every passerby along the way. We've had to wipe out several monster territories without any reward. And now, we can't even collect any spoils. After this mission, I'm definitely requesting a transfer—this is no life for anyone."

The knights exchanged glances, whispering amongst themselves.

Despite their murmurs, they still had enough respect to halt their horses.

Vikalina, at the front, could hear everything clearly.

She frowned slightly, a brief shadow of melancholy crossing her face, but she chose to ignore it.

As a key knight-in-training for the Church, Vikalina adhered to a lofty code of ethics, never allowing herself to reprimand her comrades.

Facing the opposition from her fellow knights, she could only continue to set an example, forcing her comrades to align with her.

However, there was a deep confusion in her eyes. Over the past few days of the mission, everything had felt so different from her previous experiences and interactions.

As the sound of hooves gradually stopped, Vikalina looked down and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine, thank you, Knight!" The assassin played his part perfectly, looking panicked and remorseful. He even produced a gold ingot and handed it over.

"This is a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it."

The assassin said, his tone just the right mix of respect and fear.

This was the usual way merchants interacted with the Church—if you didn't pay for your life, you wouldn't be allowed to leave.

Vikalina didn't hesitate to refuse. "No need. As knights, it is our duty to support the weak. Since you're fine, we'll continue on our way."

The assassin continued his performance, expressing endless thanks before casually asking, "May I ask, what business do the knights have in Minnet City?"

"To my knowledge, it's just an ordinary small town."

Several of the knights behind Vikalina frowned, irritated by the merchant's incessant questions. They felt he was wasting time.

However, Vikalina didn't dismiss him. There was no confidentiality needed for this mission, and she didn't mind offering a brief explanation.

"We are, first, looking for someone, and secondly..." she began.

The mysterious figure silently observed the disguised merchant, listening to Vikalina's explanation, and a look of understanding appeared in his eyes.

"Just as I thought... Something is happening. It's a good thing I didn't act directly and instead relied on the Daister family's people. Otherwise, even if I had gotten the goods, escaping wouldn't have been so simple."

A sense of relief flashed in his eyes. After a brief moment of thought, he gave the disguised merchant new instructions, telling him to bring Sivis as originally planned.

The figure then left the Daister family's estate and made his way toward Minnet City.

After several twists and turns, the mysterious figure arrived at the entrance to a sewer. He jumped in swiftly.

It wasn't until several hours later that he finally returned to the Daister family's estate.

The mysterious figure had just arrived when he saw Conning and Flora once again standing before the loyal maid, Reina, mocking her coldly.

"Sivis will be here soon. Don't worry," they taunted.

"Let's see if you're still as defiant by then."

"I'll be sure to enjoy seeing your reaction when the time comes."

...

With each mocking remark, Reina's expression grew even more despondent.

Reina had long since lost the resolve she once had to protect Sivis's assets. She huddled in front of the warehouse, knees drawn to her chest, her body trembling uncontrollably. Even so, her hand still gripped the alchemical bomb tightly, unwilling to let go.

The mysterious figure approached the group, but Reina seemed unaware, showing no reaction whatsoever.

Conning and Flora, however, were eager, their faces full of anticipation. "Master, have you found Sivis?"

"My subordinates have located his trail," the figure replied casually.

Conning and Flora suddenly made a request, "Master, could we see the scene of Sivis being captured? Don't you have the ability to observe your subordinates?"

"Could you let us watch as that guy is captured, and maybe even see his pathetic state? We've never liked him," they added, intentionally casting a glance at Reina.

Reina, her heart deadened, slowly lifted her head, her face streaked with tears. "You... You..." She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat, her eyes dull and lifeless.

Reina didn't know what to do anymore. The only thing that kept her standing guard in front of the warehouse was the hope that.

At the very least, she would be able to hear her master's orders once he was brought back.

If her master no longer needed her... A flash of hatred crossed Reina's eyes. She couldn't afford to offend the mysterious figure, but she was still willing to go down with Conning and Flora if it meant taking them all down together.

The mysterious figure looked at them, silent for a moment. His cold gaze at Conning and Flora showed his disdain for their absurdity.

However, to his surprise, the two of them suddenly became shrewd and said, "Show this stubborn girl how her master was captured. Maybe that way, you'll get what you want sooner."

The moment those words left their mouths, the mysterious figure's expression subtly changed, clearly intrigued.

Since the Church had arrived in Minnet City, the figure knew that once they made their move, chaos would follow. Securing the item early and escaping might indeed be the better option.

With this thought, he gave a slight nod, snapping his fingers, and a light screen appeared in front of them.

Despite herself, Reina couldn't help but glance at the screen. Immediately, a cold shiver ran through her entire body!

On the screen, a figure disguised as a merchant, carrying a travel bag, was walking forward.

In front of the merchant was a carriage that Reina recognized all too well — the very carriage she had chosen for Sivis!
