Moonlight Betrayal-Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Chapter 59
Chapter 59
Kaeleen’s POV
I couldn’t help but laugh at Felipe’s words. He was lying through his teeth. Everyone in my pack knew who Leon was at this point. When I had first come back from the Moonshade pack after the meeting, my annoyance had been obvious for everyone to see. I was livid, and at some point, my members had given me space, but I calmed down later.
During that time, they asked around. Rebecca specifically had inquired about what was going on and why I was grumpy, and she told them the story of how everything had gone down in the Moonshade pack. She had been annoyed as well. And even Alex, who liked to claim that his wife was the gossip, had spread the news. So everyone knew about the Moonshade pack and the fact that the Alpha was the reason they got to meet Astrid so late. They also hated that he treated her like trash and the fact that he disrespected her.
"What do you mean you don’t know me?" I heard Leon ask Felipe in anger.
Felipe replied calmly, "Am I supposed to know you? Are you an actress, an actor, a musician, or perhaps you are in politics like our Rebecca, or more famous than half the members of our pack?"
"I do not have to be in politics to be famous," Leon gritted out.
"True. Our Alpha isn’t in politics, but he’s famous due to his numerous businesses. Is that what you do? Are you a businessman?" Felipe asked, purposely getting on Leon’s nerves.
I was dying with laughter. I could switch to the cameras at the entrance to see how Leon was reacting to the obvious disrespect, but I wasn’t going to do that. There was no need to familiarize myself with his face before I could even see him face to face. Just knowing that he was here made me irk already.
"Felipe," I called out.
"Yes? Should I send him away?" he asked hopefully.
"No. Let him in."
"Boss..." he began, trying to argue.
"There is a reason, and I know what I’m doing. If he tries to do anything on my turf, then he is seeking death, we both know that," I told him.
Felipe released a sigh. "Alright. But just so you know, this man is here like he came for war, coming with numerous cars and people."
"I know," I said to Felipe.
Our spy had already told us that Leon was coming with notable elders and that he planned on using whatever means necessary to get Astrid back. But he would need to accept that she was already my mate and that she wasn’t going back to him. I wasn’t going to let it happen. The call ended, and I turned to Alex.
"Arrogant even in someone else’s home," Alex muttered with disgust.
"And Felipe must have served him a dose of reality," I said with a laugh.
"Astrid needs to know. He came for her," he said to me.
I gave him a nod.
"Will she be okay?" Alex asked me.
"She seemed determined not to go back to him yesterday. I’m hoping that is still the case this morning," I said to him.
"What if he uses her sister again?" he asked me.
I frowned. After Astrid came back, things had been moving faster than expected that I didn’t even bother to ask her about her sister. I hated that Leon even used her sister to get her to go back to him, but I hated Clara more for putting herself in a position where Leon could use her to lure her sister in. The same sister who would likely do anything for her.
"We’ll just have to wait and see, right?" I asked him. "Well, it’s time to meet our guest, but not without Astrid."
Alex gave me a nod as we made our way to Astrid’s room. She was already awake when I got there.
"Hi," she said as I walked in.
I made sure to focus on her face and not the nape of her neck and how inviting it was. Or that fine, milky skin, or the scent of roses emanating from her, which I suspected was due to the shower gel she used. But staring directly at her made me realize just how beautiful her eyes were, how perfect the shape of her lips were, how utterly beautiful she was...
"Kaeleen?"
I coughed and shook my head.
’Focus, Kaeleen.’
"I’m sorry," I said to her.
"No problem. Is something the matter?" she asked me with a frown on her face.
"Um... I know you just had your bath, and you are probably thinking of taking a rest today after everything."
She chuckled. "No. If at all, I was thinking that perhaps I could get a start on the work I’m meant to do for the pack. Familiarize myself with things, you know."
I blinked.
"You want to start work immediately and not rest?" I asked her because I could not fathom it.
"Why do you sound so surprised?" she asked me.
"Because I am. No one is asking you to do anything immediately, Astrid. You can take some time to rest. No one is pressuring you," I told her.
"I know that, but I’m bored just sitting around. There is literally nothing for me to do, and I don’t want to seem pathetic or incompetent when I have just gotten the position," she said to me.
"Pathetic? Incompetent? Nah, no one would think that. Normally, after the mating ritual, the mates get a three-day break or honeymoon or whatever. Some even extend it to a month or so," I told her.
"Oh," she said to me in realization. "I didn’t know that. But still, I couldn’t just sit around without doing anything."
"Who said you were not going to do anything today..." Alex coughed outside, making me realize the reason why I had come here in the first place.
I was already getting carried away, which was becoming a normal and recurring occurrence whenever I was in Astrid’s presence.
"As to why I came here this morning," I said to her, and she gave me a nod. "Leon is here."
I gauged her reaction, observing her to see if she would be annoyed, relieved, or excited. I just wanted to see anything, but she showed nothing at all. She only gave me a nod.
"To get me back, I presume?"
"Yes. But like I said, I’m not going to let that happen," I told her.
She laughed. "Oh, I know. But I’m also not going to let him get what he wants. You don’t need to do the protecting all the time, Kaeleen. I can protect myself also."
Hearing her words made my heart swell with pride, and I beamed.
"Well, I better get dressed to receive our visitor," I said to her with a smirk.
"How should I dress? Casual or classy?" she asked me.
And that was when I realized that she still didn’t have much clothing. There were so many basic things she needed since she had nothing at all in the Moonshade pack.
"Do you have something to wear?" I asked her.
"Yeah. I can make do with the things you ordered," she told me.
"But it’s not enough," I said to her. "How about I take you shopping after this? You don’t have to do any work today. I’ll also introduce you to an assistant to help you with work, is that okay?"
"You don’t have to go that far," she argued. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"But I want to. And I’m not taking no for an answer," I told her.
"Fine," she said with a laugh. "But don’t forget that we have a visitor, and we are keeping him waiting."
"Patience is a virtue," I said with a wink, but then I remembered Clara.
"What if he comes with your sister?" I asked her.
"I don’t have a sister."
Just those words and the way her eyes darkened told me everything I needed to know.
I gave her a nod. "See you soon," I said to her as I made my way out of her room.
This time, Leon really wasn’t going to be able to get her back because, instead of me, Astrid herself wouldn’t allow it.
I made sure to take my time getting showered. When I was done, I decided to go with something casual, jeans and a shirt that showed off the tattoos on my hands.
Alex laughed when he saw me. "I’m so going to love this."
"Me too."
We made our way to Astrid’s room, and she was ready also. I had sent word that we would arrive together, so she waited for me. She was dressed casually too, in a gown that hugged her breasts and showed off her shape but was flared from the waist down and ended on her knees. Her hair was in French braids, and it suited her well.
"Ready?" I asked her with a smile.
