Moonlight Betrayal-Chapter 64
Chapter 64: Chapter 64
Kaeleen’s POV
As much as I wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of my time and possibly my life with Astrid, I had work to do. And I had matters to attend to. One of them being my older sister who I had still not heard from even after a fucking week.
I made sure Astrid was settled though before leaving. Although to be sincere, she had sent me out insisting that she didn’t need a guide and that I should get on with my life. I shouldn’t put it on hold just to ensure that she is okay. I wanted to tell her that I can and would put my life on hokd to ensure she was okay but if there was one thing I had learnt from my time with Astrid, it was the fact that once she was settled on something, she wouldn’t budge.
Hence why I was now currently in my car on my way to see Serena. I had stopped by her studio but although it was running, she wasn’t present. Serena hardly ever took a break from work which meant whatever was going on was serious and she was keeping it yo herself which irked me.
I wish I could call my mum and tell her to soeak with her daughter. To tell her to stop being so stubborn and just lean on people. But alas, there was nothing I could do on that end.
Immediately I got to her home, I hopped out of the vehicle. Serena and Hunter lived in a quiet neighborhood. Their home was cute, Rebecca had decorated it without consent from Serena but Serena couldn’t do it herself because this wasn’t something she was good at. It had the picket fence painted black at Serena’s insistence. I still could not understand why and I wasn’t ready to do so either.
It was a two story building with flowers decorating the house. The garden was well taken care of, I’m sure that was all Hunter because Serena couldn’t take care of a garden. Children, yes. But plants, no. It was like she was fucking cursed to destroy any plant she touched which was funny.
I made my way to the door and rang the doorbell. No one would expect that a famous tattoo artist and a champion in kick boxing with more money that most pole could make would be living in a modes him like this.
I waited for someone to open up. I could hear footsteps and I was sure Serena was the one coming. She opened the door and frowned when she was me.
"What are you doing here?" She asked with a scowl on her face.
I know I said I was going to give her space until she wanted to talk about the issue with me but I couldn’t let her shoulder this burden alone. This was not something that she had to bear alone.
I gave her a smile. "Is that how to greet your favourite brother?" I asked her with my arms open for a hug.
She gave me an eyeroll. "What do you want Kaeleen?" She asked me again not even going for the hug.
I put my hands down and gave her a good look. She had bags under her eyes. Her clothes were rumpled. Her once perfectly styled hair was thrown into a messy bun. She looked tired and worn out.
"What going on with you?" I asked her.
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about." I said to her.
"It seems you know what’s going on with me already." She said to me.
She was prickly which was a derense mechanism. Something she normally did when she wanted to hide things from us, that is Rebecca and me.
"You were not at the welcome party." I said to her.
"And I told you why." She replied.
"True." I nodded. "Is hunter in?" I asked her.
Her face pinched up like she was about to cry but with a snap of my finger it was back to how it was before.
"He’s not accepting visitors." She told me.
"Hunter always accepts visitors, especially when it’s me." I said to her.
Just then, I heard the shuffle of feet. Hunter appeared at the doorway. He looked weak and like a shadow of himself.
He was bald now. Hunter normally had his hair in braids and Serena had said one time that she fell in love with his hair and not him. We all knew that was a lie but we also know how much she liked Hunter’s hair. Damn I’ve witnessed him sitting on the floor while she loosened his hair. His hair was rich, thick and luscious. It was beautiful.
But that wasn’t the only thing I noticed. His shirt was falling off his shoulder. He was a stark contrast to the hunter I knew before.
"Hunter man, when did you cut your hair?" I asked him in shock.
He chuckled. "Sometime this week. What are you standing outside for? Come in." He said.
Serena turned to him. "You should be resting. Why are you here?" She asked him in a whisper.
"You were taking long out here and I had to see why." He told her.
"Go back to bed." She said to him.
"I’m tired of staying in bed." He said as he turned into their house.
Serena led him and I followed suit. Hunter didn’t go upstairs to the bedroom but instead remained in the living room. He put on the television and I settled next to him.
"What’s going on?" I asked him. "Serena wouldn’t tell us anything."
Serena was out of earshot. She was in the kitchen instead. God knows what she was doing but I hoped she wasn’t cooking. That girl couldn’t cook to save her life.
"The usual." Hunter shrugged.
"What is the usual? Because from what I know it isn’t this." I told him.
Hunter released a sigh. I could see how tired he was.
"It’s cancerous."
