Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar-Chapter 32: I’ve Always Been Very Innocent
Only then did she sit down on Quentin Grant’s other side.
"Brother, who’s this?"
Quentin Grant took Nora Ainsworth’s nervous hand and stated simply, "Your sister-in-law."
Jean Grant studied her for a moment before offering a faint smile. "Hello, Sister-in-law."
Nora Ainsworth nodded, not daring to speak.
The smile had vanished from Ethan Ellsworth’s face the moment she arrived. But just then, Jean Grant casually asked another question, "And who’s this? Your girlfriend?"
She was referring to Chloe Marshall, and her question was naturally directed at Ethan Ellsworth.
Ethan Ellsworth forced a smile. "You’d like that, wouldn’t you?"
Jean Grant’s smile was bright. "Oh, listen to you. It’s your private life, what’s it to me? I was just curious."
Chloe Marshall grew flustered, anxious to clarify the situation. But to her surprise, Ethan Ellsworth wrapped an arm around her, giving her a real fright.
At that moment, Nora Ainsworth saw the look on Ethan Ellsworth’s face clearly, and something immediately clicked.
’He’s in love with Jean Grant. Otherwise, his gaze wouldn’t have turned so icy after she said that. It’s the kind of silent suffering that comes from a pain too deep to voice.’
For once, Quentin Grant went back on his word. "Jean, you should head home early. Otherwise, I can’t promise I won’t let something slip to Mom."
Nora Ainsworth, sitting beside him, was going crazy internally. ’This man! He doesn’t just use threats and bribes on me—he uses the same tactics on his own sister!’
Jean Grant’s face lit up with a girlish grin. "Thanks, Bro! I’ll head home early."
She quickly slid out of her seat and trotted off into the crowd, not sparing Ethan Ellsworth a single glance.
The atmosphere grew heavy. Quentin Grant knew Ethan Ellsworth was very good at controlling his emotions. After a long pause, Quentin slowly said, "Ethan, don’t let her get to you."
Sure enough, a cocky smile spread across Ethan Ellsworth’s face as he drawled, "That sister of yours... always acts so pleased with herself, as if she’s some great prize."
But despite his words, the other three present could all hear the bitterness in his voice.
"Boss Ellsworth, do you like Young Master Grant’s sister?" Chloe Marshall asked, voicing the unspoken question.
Ethan Ellsworth’s hand instinctively clenched into a fist before he slowly relaxed it. His tone was stiff. "Idiot. What gave you the idea that I like Jean Grant?"
Chloe Marshall said no more. "I think I’ll head back now."
Ethan Ellsworth clearly didn’t want her to go. "I’ll give you a bonus later—a private car to take you home. For now, you’ll sit right there and stay put."
Quentin Grant shot him a glance. "We’ll wait for you outside. You have to be out within the hour."
They had been friends for years, so of course they understood each other’s troubles. Ethan was definitely going to get drunk tonight. Quentin had originally hoped that having Jean sit with them would cheer Ethan up, but he hadn’t expected it to be like rubbing salt in the wound.
He was unwilling to admit it, probably because he saw that right now, there was simply no hope.
Quentin Grant led Nora Ainsworth to his car.
The two of them snuggled together, talking for a little while longer.
Someone tapped on the car window. "Well now, spring is a beautiful thing, it’s just a shame dusk is so near~"
After a moment, the two of them got out of the car.
Quentin Grant faced Ethan Ellsworth’s teasing grin. "Squatting by my car to eavesdrop? You’ve got some nerve. How’d you get out of Temptation so fast? And you’re not even drunk, which is a first."
Ethan Ellsworth held up his hands. "Hey now! You’re the one being shameless, Young Master Grant. I’m just an innocent victim here. My ears have been polluted by indecent things, so you owe me compensation!"
He completely ignored Quentin Grant’s last question.
Quentin Grant deliberately let it drop. "Stop playing the innocent!"
Ethan Ellsworth scoffed. "I happen to be very pure of heart."
Nora Ainsworth stepped out of the car, an embarrassed look on her face.
