Chapter 22 - 22: They Deserved Each Other

Last month, Kate told reporters at an event that she and Daniel would announce their engagement during the Global Charity Banquet and get married soon after.

Daniel stood next to Kate at that time and didn't deny what she said.

The news of their upcoming marriage spread quickly.

The Wilson family stayed silent about it, which worried Calvin. "Mr. Wilson will likely try to protect Ms. Kate at all costs. After all, she's the love of his life."

Chantelle frowned as she listened to Calvin's report on Kate and Daniel.

The thought of them together made her stomach churn.

Daniel was blind to the truth, and Kate was a cold-blooded killer. They deserved each other.

"Ms. Chantelle, is everything okay?" Calvin asked, noticing her silence.

Chantelle sighed and said, "Nobody can stop me. If Daniel tries to intervene, I'll send both of them to hell, and they can apologize to Wesley."

As Calvin parked the car in front of Glamour Grove Boutique, Chantelle took a small tracking device from her pocket and stuck it on the car door.

Calvin was surprised and asked, "What is that?"

"It's a tracking device Daniel put in my pocket," Chantelle said with a mischievous smile. "Take it for a drive and meet me here in an hour."

Calvin nodded. "Yes, Ms. Chantelle. Please take care."

Calvin drove off through the city, taking narrow alleys and winding streets.

It would be hard for anyone to follow them now.

Chantelle watched Calvin leave and then turned to enter Glamour Grove Boutique.

"Ms. Corrine! Welcome," a staff member at Glamour Grove Boutique greeted Chantelle with a warm smile. "Ms. Thea has been waiting for you. Please come with me."

The staff led Chantelle upstairs to the designer's studio.

The moment Thea Powell saw her, she squealed with excitement. "Chantie, ma chérie! I missed you so much. You're finally here!"

She hugged Chantelle tightly and kissed her on both cheeks. Chantelle, not used to the French-style greeting, gave a nervous smile. "Hey, Thea. What's going on?"

"You've gone a few days, Chantie," Thea said with a pout. "Are we not best friends anymore?"

Chantelle sighed. "What do you want, Thea?"

Thea grinned. "Fine, I know you still love me. Anyway, I called you here because someone wants to buy Maxine—the wedding dress you designed. Guess who?"

"I have no idea," Chantelle said with a shrug.

Thea leaned in and lowered her voice. "Kate Bently! I know you don't like her."

Chantelle froze. She hadn't expected Kate to move so quickly with her plan to marry Daniel.

But she kept her face neutral. "I don't care. Sell it to her if she wants it."

Thea raised an eyebrow. "Are you serious, Chantie? You designed that dress, and you're just going to let your enemy wear it? If you need money, just tell me. You don't have to sell it to her."

Chantelle took a deep breath. "I mean, sell it to her if she really wants it. But only if she pays triple the price in full—by today. If she does that, she can have Maxine by tomorrow night."

She grabbed two glasses of water and handed one to Thea before sitting down.

Thea grinned. "Either way, we're making her pay a huge amount. Chantie, you're a genius!"

"I'll leave the negotiation to you," Chantelle winked at her.

Thea nodded. "No problem! I like the plan, but are you sure about this? You designed that dress for yourself. Letting Kate wear it to marry the man you loved... If I were you, Chantie, I'd be heartbroken."

Thea and Chantelle had been best friends since high school. Thea had been devastated when she heard Chantelle had died.

Then, three years ago, Chantelle contacted her out of nowhere. Not only was she alive, but she had also become a well-known fashion designer under the alias Corrine.

When Chantelle told Thea everything that had happened, Thea felt sorry for her.

Chantelle had changed, but Thea still worried about her.

The Chantelle she once knew had loved Daniel deeply and would have done anything for him.

"Don't worry about me," Chantelle said casually. "I don't think Kate will ever get the chance to wear that dress. And I'm over Daniel now."

She was on her way out of Glamour Grove Boutique when Kate walked in.

Kate seemed to be in a good mood and didn't even notice Chantelle walking past her.

Chantelle crossed the street and got into the car parked nearby. She sat silently, watching the shop.

"Ms. Chantelle, what are we looking for?" Calvin asked from the driver's seat.

Chantelle smirked. "Wait for it."

Her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and saw a notification—$900,000 had just been deposited into her account.

She raised an eyebrow, surprised by how much Kate would spend on her wedding with Daniel.

She hadn't even known the Bently family had that kind of money to spend.

Chantelle's chest tightened as she recalled the memories of her life with the Bently family.

A heavy feeling crept into her heart.

During college, she had worked part-time to support herself while Kate had everything she wanted.

Back then, she never questioned it. She hadn't even thought it was unfair. Instead, she worried about being a burden to the family.

How naive I was.

When Kate heard that Corrine was willing to sell her the wedding dress, she was ecstatic.

It was said to be designed for the famous fashion designer's own wedding. That made it even more special.

She was willing to pay any price to be the most beautiful bride and win Daniel's love.

"Merci, Ms. Kate," Thea said with a bright smile. "Your wedding dress will be air-flown to you. It should arrive tomorrow night. I'll arrange for someone to deliver it to your house."

"Great! Send it to the Wilson residence," Kate replied, handing over a piece of paper. "Here's the address."

"Of course! You and Mr. Wilson are getting married soon, after all," Thea said in a teasing tone. "I've never seen a more perfect couple. You two are a match made in heaven!"

Kate beamed with joy.

Before leaving, she bought a few other expensive items from the boutique. She never hesitated to spend money on things that made her happy.

Now that Railer was on her side, she had no doubt she would marry Daniel soon.
