Chapter 28 - 28: A Huge Gain

The crowd below moved aside as Daniel walked past.

A cold tension filled the air.

"Daniel..." Kate's voice trembled as she watched him walk away. Despair filled her eyes.

The room spun around her. Then, everything went black.

Ashton had been too busy enjoying his food to care about the drama. But when he saw his boss leaving, he quickly ran after him.

"Sir, Ms. Bently just fainted..." Ashton panted, struggling to keep up with his pace.

The night had taken an unexpected turn.

"Have her taken to the hospital. Contact the Bentlys," Daniel ordered in a firm voice.

"Yes, sir!" Ashton answered without hesitation.

"Also, investigate this matter thoroughly," Daniel added.

His sharp eyes flicked toward the VIP table where Chantelle had been sitting.

She was gone.

Perfect timing, he thought.

"Sir, do you think someone is pulling strings behind the scenes?" Ashton asked, intrigued.

"It's obvious. Look into Kate and Chantelle's connection as well," Daniel instructed.

Something told him Chantelle was deeply involved in this mess.

Chantelle watched as Kate lay unconscious on the ballroom stage.

A satisfied smirk played on her lips.

Mission accomplished.

Without lingering, she slipped out of the hotel and boarded her helicopter back to Western Hill Villa.

Back home, she made herself a steaming cup of hot chocolate.

The house was quiet. Railer was still asleep. She settled beside his bed, sipping her drink while watching the live broadcast of the gala.

She knew Railer would panic if he woke up and didn't see her nearby.

An official announcement about the charity dinner's postponement was broadcast live. Social media exploded with headlines about the incident.

"Kate Bently - Black Widow of the Charity World!"

The story shot to the top of search trends. Old articles Kate had tried to bury resurfaced, spreading like wildfire.

The once-admired philanthropic princess of Easthan had fallen hard.

Chantelle's lips curled into a satisfied smile as she scrolled through the headlines. She liked every post that celebrated Kate's downfall.

Wesley, I hope you're watching. The woman who took your life is finally paying the price.

Lost in her thoughts, Chantelle suddenly noticed the little boy was awake. She set the laptop aside and leaned closer.

"You're up, Rai. Want some milk?" She lifted the half-full cup of chocolate milk, trying to make it sound appealing.

Railer was getting better and could eat solid food now. But Chantelle had no idea what he liked.

She had to guess by watching what he ate and kept trying to get him to eat more.

It wasn't easy.

Railer barely glanced at the drink before turning his head away and closing his eyes.

His expression was clear—he wasn't interested.

"How about a warm glass of low-fat milk?" Chantelle offered.

Railer opened his eyes, turned to her, and gave a small nod.

Aha. So, he wasn't into kids' drinks. Chantelle felt like she had just made an important discovery.

Without wasting time, she warmed up a glass of milk and brought it back to him.

After finishing his milk, Rai stared at Chantelle. He looked like he had something to say but kept it to himself. His face tensed as if holding back.

Chantelle tried to get him to talk, but he stayed silent. His eyes remained fixed on her phone.

Noticing his eyes, she unlocked the phone and placed it in his hand. Maybe this would finally tell her what he wanted.

Railer glanced at her, then at the phone. He seemed to be in the mood now. His fingers moved quickly across the screen before handing the phone back.

Chantelle took it, expecting to see a message. But when she looked at the screen, her jaw nearly dropped.

Rai had opened yesterday's stock exchange page. The four hundred million dollars Chantelle had invested had tripled in value.

1.2 billion dollars?

She had expected to lose that money and hadn't even checked after Calvin made the purchase.

But now, she had made a fortune overnight. Her heart was beating so fast excitedly.

Was her little boy the next king of Wall Street?

Gosh. This was the best news ever!

"Rai, can you read stock prices? How did you know the shares would go up?"

Chantelle couldn't hold back her excitement. She grabbed Railer's hand, waiting for answers.

But the little boy only smirked. He allowed her to hold his hand but stayed silent.

Instead of answering, he shut his eyes, pretending to sleep.

Still, his firm grip on her hand told her everything.

After spending time with him, Chantelle had figured out his personality.

No one could make him talk if he didn't want to talk.

Even so, Chantelle believed that Rai would one day open his heart to her. He would eventually tell her everything as long as she stayed by his side.

Just then, Calvin rushed in and motioned for her to leave the ward.

"Ms. Bently, the Bentlys are facing a financial crisis, just as you predicted."

Chantelle's lips curled slightly.

"So, the day has finally come."

She glanced at Calvin.

"Where's Kate now?"

"In the hospital."

Chantelle's smile deepened.

"Let's go congratulate her."

The Wilsons' Residence

Kane lounged on the sofa, clutching his plushie while sipping the chocolate milk the butler had given him.

A tablet rested on his lap, streaming a live broadcast.

Excitement lit up his face as he watched it.

Mommy's the most beautiful, and the mean lady can suck it. Haha!

Kane grinned, completely unaware of someone sneaking up behind him.

Before he could react, a strong grip wrapped around his ankle.

Instantly, he was lifted off the ground and dangled upside down.

"Who holds me?!" Kane shouted, fuming as his milk spilled all over the floor.

He spun midair a few times before finally getting a clear look at his attacker.

Kane didn't like the look of the middle-aged woman. Her thick makeup and perfect skin didn't make her any less unpleasant.

He had never seen her before.

"You've gotten bold, brat. Kate might let you off easily, but I won't. Where's the hundred million dollars? Hand it over, or I'll drop you right now!"

Ruby had come looking for Daniel, but he wasn't home. Instead, she found this boy enjoying a video of her daughter being humiliated.

Furious, she grabbed Kane and carried him toward the balcony.
