Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 474: You’ve Acted Before?
Stephanie was a talented child star. One take was enough for her, but the actor working with her was nowhere near her level. They kept forgetting their lines or couldn’t act properly. It was one NG after another.
Chantelle even started wondering if the actor was doing it on purpose to make things difficult for Stephanie.
Just as Stephanie was getting worn out from the repeated NGs, someone secretly approached Chantelle and whispered, "Are you interested in acting? The director would like to invite you to join the show."
"Mommy, say yes. Please say yes. You acted before!" The moment Stephanie finished her scene, she ran straight to her mother and begged her to accept the role.
The actress she had been working with was terrible. It was getting frustrating to reshoot the same scene again and again.
Mommy would definitely do well in this role.
"You’ve acted before?" Daniel lifted a brow. He hardly knew anything about her life during the six years she’d been away.
She used to be like a timid rabbit, but those six years had changed her. Now she had all sorts of skills. He had even heard that a world-renowned designer had visited Thea’s boutique and seemed to have a close relationship with his wife.
She could design clothing and act?
What else was she capable of?
Chantelle nodded absent-mindedly as she read through the script. Her daughter was already a child star. There was nothing wrong with her doing the same. If she hadn’t been so focused on revenge back then and if acting had interested her more, she might have become famous herself.
Daniel saw how absorbed she was in the script and stopped interrupting her. Instead, he asked Stephanie to look up the movies Chantelle had acted in.
Stephanie didn’t just find a movie. She pulled up a variety show that Chantelle was also a part of.
Daniel didn’t find the movie very interesting while watching it because Chantelle only appeared a few times. She had a few emotional lines, but there was no physical contact at all.
The variety show, however, made him furious. It was a competitive program where Chantelle and Stephanie fell behind the other teams. They later teamed up with a foreign man whose name he didn’t know but was famous overseas.
Chantelle couldn’t reach a spot in the next challenge, so the man carried her. Whenever she couldn’t do something, he would lift her or help her along. They had more physical contact in the show than she and Daniel ever did when they were together.
He could clearly see the way that man looked at her.
Stephanie saw her father clenching his fists so tightly that the veins on his arms were bulging. She tried to get her mother’s attention, but Chantelle waved her away, telling her she was busy.
Daddy and Mommy were both so dramatic sometimes.
Stephanie sighed and scooted closer to her father, waiting for something funny to happen. When it finally did, she burst out laughing because her father was glaring at her.
"Why are you glaring at me, Daddy?" She held her hands to her chest. She hadn’t done anything wrong. She had nothing to be afraid of.
"Do you know this man?" Daniel pointed at the man on the screen and asked.
Stephanie nodded. "I do. We worked together in multiple shows."
"When?"
"After we joined the variety show. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be as famous as I am now. I wouldn’t have so many resources either. Mommy says he’s an important person in my acting career." Stephanie beamed as she talked about him.
She didn’t care that her father clearly hated hearing it.
Daniel’s expression remained gloomy. His voice carried jealousy. "What do you mean by ’important person’? You don’t think you can become a Netherwood star on your own?"
She wanted to tell him that the entertainment industry wasn’t as simple as he imagined. It was complicated, and good actors didn’t always get the resources they deserved. But seeing how angry he looked, she quickly changed her tune. "Of course, I can! Whose daughter do you think I am?"
Daniel was pleased by her reply and smiled. He picked her up and kissed her.
"Why don’t you like him, Daddy?" Her father’s expression changed every time the man was mentioned. The shift was so fast it barely felt real.
"Remember this, Steph. Mommy is Daddy’s wife. Only Daddy can hug and kiss her. Anyone else who gets close to her is harassing her."
If Kane were here, he would probably ask, "Am I harassing Mommy if I hug and kiss her?"
Even though Stephanie was quick-witted, fatigue slowed her down. She only realized what he meant after hearing his words.
Was her father jealous? 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
He didn’t like other men getting close to her mother, but people abroad were always close to each other. Hand-kissing and hugging were normal greetings. Daniel’s blood pressure would explode if he saw all of that.
"Ms. Bently? It’s been a while." Before Daniel and Stephanie could finish their conversation, a middle-aged, pot-bellied man walked over. When Chantelle stood up, he approached her for a hug.
Stephanie jumped toward him before Daniel even had the chance to frown. "It’s been so long, Mr. Wylder!"
The man was startled by how adorable she was and reached out to hug her, too.
However, the sharp stare held him still, making him feel as though he were perched on pins and needles.
He looked up and saw Daniel staring straight at him, looking as if he was ready to tear him apart.
Daniel’s eyes were like blades scraping against skin.
The man straightened up and greeted him cheerfully. "Mr. Wilson. I finally see you in person."
Daniel ignored him completely. He picked Stephanie up, took his wife’s hand, and led them toward the car.
Chantelle spun around and gave the middle-aged man an apologetic smile.
The man forced a stiff smile and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He must have been out of his mind to hug both Daniel’s wife and daughter right in front of him.
It was only thanks to his own fear that he pulled away in time. Otherwise, he might have had to say goodbye to his limbs.
When Chantelle got into the car, she wanted to complain. How could he be so rude to her investor? But before she could speak, Daniel shot her a sharp look.
What is it this time? What did I do?
"Why are you glaring at me?" she asked.
Stephanie thought the words sounded familiar. She realized they were the same lines she had said to her father just moments ago.
