Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 479: Rewind It
Daniel went to the garage and drove to the Western Hill Villa neighborhood. When he arrived, he discovered Chantelle wasn’t there.
An hour earlier, Chantelle had dropped Stephanie off at the Western Hill Villa. She planned to go to Jacob’s place. When Kane and Railer heard she was going there, they wanted to go along. They hadn’t seen him since he returned from Carcosa.
She couldn’t win against them, so she brought all three of them along. On the road, she was very careful to avoid any accidents.
Fortunately, they arrived at Jacob’s neighborhood safely.
Since working under Chantelle, Jacob had become more cheerful. He was no longer the boy who hid in his room. He had a group of friends now and was more energetic.
"Wow, since when did you become a handsome man?" Kane exaggeratedly looked at Jacob. He remembered that when they first met, Jacob had long hair and a beard. He looked messy and unkempt.
Jacob scratched his head and replied shyly, "All thanks to Ms. Chantelle."
Kane nodded and spoke like an adult. "That’s good. Keep it up."
Stephanie felt she should say something, too, since everyone was showing concern. She cleared her throat and said, "You look good now. I’ll introduce you to suitable roles in the future."
Jacob smiled and nodded. He had no one who cared about him, either abroad or at home. Hearing their kind words touched him.
"Well, let’s catch up later. What about the security footage I asked you to retrieve?" Chantelle interrupted them.
Jacob’s expression turned serious. He walked over to the computer. After a few clicks, the large screen behind him split into seven or eight windows. Each window showed different footage.
"It’s all here. When I was retrieving the footage, I noticed someone had tried to edit it. I intercepted it."
Chantelle nodded. That meant what she was seeing now were the original videos.
"Watch this first." Kane pointed at Roman on the screen.
Jacob played the footage from Roman’s home since Chantelle didn’t object.
In the video, Roman and Kingsley were sitting on the sofa watching TV, but they slowly fell asleep. The chandelier above Roman’s head suddenly dropped and hit him directly. He was terrified and quickly woke Kingsley. They rushed to the hospital.
In another video, it wasn’t from a surveillance camera. It looked like someone recorded it with a pinhole camera. The footage was shaky, but Roman was clearly the focus.
Roman was lying in a hospital bed, and talismans were hanging all around him, even on his body. Kingsley had talismans on him as well.
The nurse laughed at them several times because of it.
Another accident happened right after. Roman suddenly started convulsing on the bed. Foam came out of his mouth, and his eyes rolled back. If Kingsley hadn’t noticed in time, he would have died.
"Wait. Rewind it." Kane suddenly grabbed the mouse and rewound the footage for a few minutes.
Chantelle didn’t see anything unusual. Kane glanced at Jacob, and Jacob looked guilty. "This footage was modified. I didn’t notice it at the time. When I did, it was already too late. It couldn’t be fixed."
Jacob’s eyes were tired from watching all the footage. He hadn’t missed it on purpose.
Chantelle didn’t blame him. She knew Jacob’s daily workload was huge. He had to finish his tasks at the company and also handle the things she suddenly assigned him, like keeping an eye on Roman.
It was really difficult to get someone to secretly film Roman outside when he couldn’t be monitored at home. Besides, the edited footage wasn’t completely useless. It was enough to prove that someone was behind all of this.
Chantelle signaled Kane to play the footage. It showed that Roman was saved, but the IV bag was sent for testing. There were no signs of foul play, yet he had been poisoned.
"Your computer was being monitored by someone? How did they know you had someone recording with a pinhole camera?" Chantelle suddenly realized.
Jacob nodded and admitted, "I was careless. I let someone take advantage of the loophole. I promise it won’t happen again. My computer’s defense system is now like an iron wall. They can’t come and go as they want."
"Alright then, keep looking for this person. Don’t overlook any clues. The three of you stay here for now. I’ll come pick you up once I finish my work." Chantelle had a suspicion in her heart and wanted to test it right away.
Seeing her serious expression, Kane held her hand and asked worriedly, "Mommy, can’t I go with you? I’m very smart."
"Be good. I have my own plans." Chantelle said, then left quickly after speaking to the children.
The three kids sat in a room full of computers and stared at each other. Jacob’s place had no milk, only cold cola that they couldn’t drink. They wanted to order food, but Railer stopped them.
"Mommy was worried about us when she left. We should be careful."
Stephanie, still shaken from the pothole incident, nodded. "We can’t get Mommy into trouble."
Even though Kane was playful, he knew when to behave. After hearing them say that, he didn’t make a fuss about the chocolate milk.
Jacob watched them acting so mature and praised them in his heart. It was rare to see such obedient children nowadays.
It completely changed the way he had viewed children for more than twenty years.
"Steph, what happened just now? Tell me." Kane moved closer to Stephanie and wanted to gossip.
Stephanie briefly explained the pothole incident. Then she talked about Victoria and Daisy. After hearing what they said and did, Kane and Railer became furious.
The mommy they cherished so much had been bullied by two women who came out of nowhere!
In less than ten minutes, Kane hacked Victoria’s and Daisy’s phones. He sent strange emojis to everyone in their contact lists. He didn’t stop there. He also blocked their phone lines. They couldn’t make or receive calls or messages. They wouldn’t be able to use their phones to ask for help for 24 hours.
At the same time, Railer checked their assets and discovered that Daniel had transferred ten million dollars to them. Railer’s heart sank, and he had a bad feeling.
Railer didn’t touch the money. From the hacked messages, he saw they had already connected with a scammer. It wouldn’t take long before all that money was gone.
"Steph, did you just stand there and watch Mommy get bullied by them?" Kane looked at Stephanie in annoyance. Stephanie glared back, making him shrink.
He was just so angry that he forgot who he was dealing with.
