Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 260 - 256. Ariana Evans’s anxiety
Chapter 260: 256. Ariana Evans’s anxiety
After tucking away the report and stepping out of the hospital doors, Titus Zane suddenly felt the urge to visit her mother, Ariana Evans.
She didn’t believe that her mother, who had always cared for her so attentively, could be the murderer of her birth mother.
She took a taxi and stopped in front of the hospital where her mother Ariana worked.
Getting out of the car, she walked into the inpatient department. Ariana was the chief physician in the cardioneurology department, performing at least one to two surgeries every day. During busy times, she would move from one operating table to the next.
Titus arrived at just the right moment, as Ariana had just finished a surgery.
Standing in front of the sink, washing her hands while casually asking, "Lily, why do you have so much free time today to come and see Mom?"
Watching her mother’s invariably kind demeanor, Titus felt a moment of disorientation, smiled, and said, "I’ve just been assigned some work and will have to leave T city for a while, so I thought I’d come and see you."
Ariana’s hand-washing paused, she looked at her daughter standing behind her in the mirror, and suddenly turned around, "How long will you be gone?"
"Ah?" Titus was startled by her mother’s anxious demeanor and realizing she might have seemed too agitated, Ariana grabbed a towel, drying her hands while lowering her gaze and sighing, "Mom just can’t bear to part with you. You’ve grown so big, and the days you’ve stayed by my side can be counted on one hand. Now that you’ve just returned, you have to leave again. I’m getting old, and I have no other requests; I just wish my daughter could stay by my side, talk with me, and go shopping together."
"Mom, listen to you."
Titus took a step forward, linking arms with Ariana, "It’s as if I’ll never come back. I’ll return to accompany you once this deal is done."
"How long before it’s done?" Ariana held Titus’s hand and they walked towards the desk, sitting down together in the chairs.
"At most, one month." In truth, there was no deal; it was just a probing lie.
"Is that so..." Ariana was still wiping her hands with the towel, her eyes slightly narrowed, as if calculating something.
Titus knew her mother had an obsession with cleanliness; once at home, she saw her mother washing her hands for several minutes, using up more than half a bottle of hand soap.
"Mom, is there something you’re worried about?" Titus asked, puzzled. Ariana came back to her senses and turned her head to look over, her lips brimming with a benevolent smile, "Nothing, just worried about my daughter."
While talking, Ariana reached out to pat the top of Titus’s head gently, her tender and caring attitude was a clear sign of a good mother.
Titus wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she felt Ariana’s gaze on her face was looking through her at something else.
"Mom, I’m over thirty, I’m not a child anymore, you should worry more about Lily!"
As soon as Titus mentioned her younger sister Olivia Zane, scenes from that day suddenly flashed through her mind.
"Mom, I saw Lily walking on her own that day!"
Ariana’s expression tightened at Titus’s words, a flicker of emotion swiftly crossing her features, yet she said nothing, waiting for her to continue.
Using crutches, she wasn’t fast. "Mom, Lily can walk!" Joy was evident on Titus’s face, but Ariana responded indifferently, "Yes, she’s in rehab, worried about Nathan rejecting her, she insists on going to the rehabilitation center every day."
Titus...
"How could that be? How could Nathan Moore despise Lily?" He loved Lily so much. Back then, because of her, he caused Titus no small amount of trouble.
After saying that and seeing Ariana’s enigmatic smile, Titus suddenly felt a bit guilty.
That night... in her groggy state... she kept calling Nathan’s name; only after waking up the following day did she realize that the heavy breathing and suppressed groans she heard through the phone... were his...
