Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 288: I Still Came Back
Right now, Seraphina Redgrave held a little deer in her arms, her expression indifferent, entirely unlike someone about to face death. The shackles on her hands felt heavy, weighing on her nerves.
Seraphina looked down at the deer’s head and softly said, "Little deer, remember what I told you? You must keep your promise."
Stay with Ethan Sterling more, cherish him more.
The deer whimpered, tears brimming in its eyes as it laid its head on her lap.
"Are you really not afraid?"
The person sitting in front couldn’t help but ask. In just over ten minutes, she was going to die, die in front of the entire nation, yet there wasn’t a trace of fear in her expression.
"Everyone dies sooner or later."
Seraphina said calmly, as if she truly didn’t care about life or death anymore.
"Actually, the President and Mr. Ayers asked me to check with you; do you really have no final wishes left?" The person continued, "If you have any, just say the word, and they’ll do their best to fulfill them."
She wanted to rebuild Veridian Isle. Could such a wish be fulfilled?
She was dying too soon, without seeing Veridian Isle rebuilt, without finding her biological parents. She desperately wanted to ask them why they abandoned her.
Other than that...
She hadn’t properly said goodbye to Ethan Sterling, leaving an emptiness in her heart, as if she owed him something.
While Seraphina was lost in thought, the car suddenly stopped, followed by a long pause.
The stillness had a sinister air.
Even the little deer sensed something unusual, lowering its head in fear, not daring to make a sound.
Seraphina slowly lifted her head, noticing everyone in the car was unusually tense, sweat trickling down from their helmets.
"Bang!" A gunshot penetrated the thick car walls and reached them.
Following that was the sound of fighting, though it didn’t seem intense, as if there were only one person.
Yet despite this, the car didn’t dare to move, remaining stationary.
Hector Shaw?
No, it couldn’t be him. If it were him coming from the south, he’d definitely bring a large group, and the commotion wouldn’t be this small.
The Defiance Society?
But their forces were still rather weak; they wouldn’t be capable of hijacking a prison transport.
Could it be...
A thought rapidly flashed through Seraphina’s mind, causing her pupils to constrict, a tempest rising in her heart.
Impossible, it couldn’t be.
"Miss Redgrave, please cooperate with us to return to the Directorate now."
A staff member realized the situation had changed; someone was trying to hijack the vehicle. He immediately pulled Seraphina from her seat and led her out.
Seraphina, already sore all over and weak from not eating well for days, nearly collapsed to her knees when pulled like this.
The little deer slipped off her lap, feeling its master was being mistreated, and barked angrily at them.
Seraphina was supported by two people as they opened the car door and stepped out.
Fortunately, the car hadn’t gone far yet, and they wouldn’t have to walk long to reach the Directorate.
The fighting near the car continued without pause.
Seraphina looked back, but her view was blocked by the vehicle, unable to see who was coming.
"Hurry!"
The two holding her quickened their pace. Seraphina was forced to speed up, practically being dragged along, her expression twisted with pain.
"Bang!"
A bullet flew over, embedded straight into the front door of the Directorate.
"Let’s see who dares take her away!"
An extremely arrogant voice echoed at the empty Directorate entrance, halting the sound of fighting, even the wind that rustled the leaves quieted.
So familiar...
Seraphina didn’t know where she found the strength. She pushed away the two people beside her and slowly turned her head. At this moment, she felt somewhat scared.
Beside the hard prison transport stood a group of staff holding guns, backing away step by step.
In front of them stood the person Seraphina had thought about day and night.
She was wearing clothes stained with blood, but she didn’t look defeated. Her broad back stood straight, her gun-holding hand covered in blood.
Ethan Sterling walked towards them one step at a time, his stride steady and assured.
The leaves at his feet spun, unsure of where they wanted to go.
Seraphina froze on the spot, Ethan’s shadow growing larger in her pupils. She couldn’t believe it was really him; he had returned.
Is this truly not an illusion?
Ethan’s hair was a bit disheveled, his once-refined face now covered in bloodstains, the scars striking, with dried blood at the corners of his mouth.
Beneath a pair of sword-like brows, his eyes were extraordinarily red, bloodshot, his aura menacing as if he were a demon emerging from Hell.
Ethan Sterling... 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Seraphina stayed paralyzed, no extra expression on her face.
Her gaze moved from his unruly hair down across his scarred face, tattered clothing, then to the noticeably oversized shoes on his feet, filthy all over, somehow looking even more miserable than Seraphina.
Ethan came directly before her, wiping the blood off his lips, a wicked smirk curling.
"Seraphina."
"I came back after all."
As he spoke, Seraphina felt an intense ache in her heart.
She seemed to hear a loud crash within her, something collapsing?
This feeling pained her.
It hurt enough to make her realize clearly that someone in this world still cared about her this much, worried she’d leave this world.
"Mr. Sterling."
The two who were holding Seraphina finally realized what a formidable figure stood before them, understanding why the gunfire earlier hadn’t lasted long.
No one dared confront Ethan, to fire bullets at him, fearing they’d lived too long.
"Mr., Mr. Sterling, how did you return? Please put the gun down now and leave, otherwise, we’ll be in a tough spot too."
One person gathered the courage to persuade Ethan, his voice trembling uncontrollably.
Ethan stood there, chuckling, "In a tough spot? It’s quite simple actually: either shoot me dead or hand her over."
He gestured his other hand at his neck, then tilted his head at them, as provocative as could be.
"..."
Seraphina realized Ethan’s injuries weren’t from just now.
How exactly did he return to the country?
"Mr. Sterling, she’s already been sentenced to death. Someone as esteemed as you, must you speak for a condemned criminal?" The person beside Seraphina spoke passionately, "The President and Special Assistant Ayers both..."
Before he could finish, Ethan interrupted him, shifting the gun’s aim at him, saying, "Looks like you don’t dare fire the gun. But I don’t care a bit whether you live or die."
"..."
The person who spoke earlier instantly broke into a cold sweat, unable to utter a single syllable.
